The Bunkhouse has a welcoming cozy feel and was designed to accommodate our two kids and our 7 grandkids. Both bedrooms have a full bath, are cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The covered deck is large and accommodating with ample seating, a well-equipped kitchen area, and a breakfast table. The yard space is shaded most of the year with our pecan trees. There is also a charcoal BBQ pit, two picnic tables, and a firepit. As you can see in the pics, we built the Bunkhouse onto our barn. We still have a few miniature horses around, a few dwarf goats(we drink the milk!) and some random chickens, dogs, and cats. They won't bother you, but are available to see if you would like the tour.
Swimming the full one mile of our river is a unique adventure. We have the Blue Hole, the Emerald Pot, the Slip & Slide, and let's not forget the Katfish Kitchens. We will have a map to guide you along the river!
The Bunkhouse area is entirely yours, with plenty of parking area for your vehicle(s). If interested in seeing or participating, we still have some goats and chickens around the barn that need daily attention from us. Our house is nearby, but we are available if needed. Access to the river amounts to one full mile of both sides of our river(the Dry Frio). You will be able to walk up or down the river, look for fossils, or hang out at one of our favorite swimming spots. Bring your floats, lots of guests use their pop-ups and make a home base where they are hanging out.
We are very remote! It is 35 miles to Uvalde, the closest grocery store. Be sure and bring the food you want to eat and any other supplies you want on your stay here. Fill up your gas tank in your vehicle before you arrive. It is 18 miles to Concan, the closest convenience store. Leakey and Uvalde are both about 35 miles from the Bunkhouse!

Pets are allowed with prior approval and EACH pet will require a $50 pet fee.{1 pet-$50 pet fee, 2 pets-$100 pet fee, 3 pets-$150 pet fee.) Pets must be housebroken and well behaved. Pets are not allowed to roam freely out of the owner's sight.
We do have a large carrier that we keep on the porch for your pets (and your) enjoyment.

We will make driving instructions and access information available a week before your arrival. GPS instructions seem to work if you plug in our address, but just in case, we will send instructions via email.

We absolutely loved our stay! The hosts were so nice and welcoming. We loved all of their animals plus the wild animals that visited. We saw rabbits, deer, and racoons in addition to the chickens, goats and nearby longhorns, sheep and a pony. It was very comfortable and peaceful. We loved the outdoor/indoor living concept. While we had no phone service, our wifi worked great.

Dan was a super attentive host and was very awesome when he refunded our money after the Frio flooded the day we were suppose to check in. He gave us proper directions and kept us up to date on the river situation to keep us out of harms way. Can't wait to try this palce next summer!

Simple, minimalist, rustic cabin. Outdoor kitchen & nice size porch. Camping knowledge is helpful. Owners house is right next to the cabin, literally, however, they were kind & gave our family privacy. Very remote location. No cell service but WiFi access. River had enough water to sit, relax & float some.

This little cabin was perfect for our weekend in the Hill Country. We loved spending time on the big porch. It is far from everything, and we like that.

We had an enjoyable break from city life, once again. Peaceful evenings at the cabin, with clean, crisp air. I love waking up in the morning with the roosters and chatting it up with the goats. Our morning walks along the wildflowers and greetings from the neighbors mini horse, longhorn, and sheep. Dan and Pat have the sweetest chickens who are more than happy to snack on some crackers from the kiddos. We’ll be back soon.

Our family loved this cabin! The outdoor living/kitchen area was our favorite. It was great to disconnect with no TV! The kids enjoyed exploring, feeding the animals and stomping around in the river. The outdoor games were a great addition for us. The owners are wonderful! We cannot wait to visit again!

This was the best vacation we’ve ever had. The kids got to meet and feed goats and chickens, and the neighbor’s friendly pony, longhorn, and calf. The property is surrounded by beautiful native plants. The river is crystal clear, calm, and peaceful. I felt like family and I didn’t want to leave. We will be back.

My friends and I had a great stay. The hosts were great. We enjoyed how secluded it was and even had a little spot at the river to hang out in during the day. Perfect set up and had everything we needed. Would definitely recommend!

It was a camping feel but not actually having to camp lol the drive over was really nice and beautiful to look at. It is a 35min drive to Garner State park (be sure to reserve ahead of time or you risk not being able to get into the park) we originally booked because of the water hole on the property but the water hole on the ranch was dried up it was nice to look at but too dry to swim in (no one's fault) just hadn't rained. There are no doors on the bathrooms just curtains we didn't mind just giving an honest review. Owners were super nice our kids ages 13,12,10,6 had a great time got to see some deer and rabbits they played with the connect four outside and we really enjoyed the porch. Pat gifted my son who loves gardening a papaya plant which was very kind of her they did offer to let the kids see the goats and feed the chickens. Over all we had a great stay.

My family and I went on an adventure thinking there was a lot of water in the area. But very little water was found due to drought so we didn’t get to fish. We even went to Garner State Patk and Campwood Dam & even there not a lot of water to fish or an area without swimmers or tubers. My family actually made the best of everything—the cabin was nice for our family-the area did have a dry river bed with waterholes to try to catch crawfish and perch with a net- The outdoor kitchen and breezy porch was nice to start our day and end it with family fun. Every thing was 30 to 1hr away. Bring all your food and drinks because the store is 20-30 min. away

We loved the rusticness of the cabin. It had everything we needed and if we needed anything the host was just right next door. Our kids loved to see the chickens and goats they had on the property. We saw many other animals on our visit and swam whenever we could. We found a little spring fed swimming hole. Great little getaway.

This place was exactly as advertised. Dan and Pat were very welcoming and provided us with very detailed check-in and driving instructions. They checked on us each morning to see if we needed anything and also invited our daughter to feed the goats and chickens, which she thoroughly enjoyed! They gave us fresh eggs as well as delicious plums and apricots from their trees. We enjoyed the quiet neighborhood and proximity to the river. Do plan to pack a picnic lunch as you will stay near the water for hours on end. The gated porch was perfect for our containing dogs as was the fenced side yard (no gate) for them to run and chase butterflies and birds. We enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and nature that surrounded us. As for the house, you do have to keep the kitchen area clean as the ants and stray cat are waiting on standby for any little scrap of food. We left some burger buns in an opened grocery bag when we went for a short walk and the cat got into them while we were gone, luckily it only got the buns and nothing else. Would stay here again no doubt!
