Lake Hiwassee is a working reservoir with a hydroelectric dam and therefore the water level of the lake varies greatly throughout the year. Typically the lake is filling in the spring and is full from Memorial Day to Labor day, and then lowers through the fall and is lowest in the winter. All the properties on the waterfront are affected by this. Some properties are on deeper water or have longer docks allowing varying degrees of access. Our dock is usually floating and fully accessible by boat from May thru September, however rain fall and power needs can affect these dates. There is no guarantee of the water level as this is completely out of our control. You can contact the local marina to find out the latest level for Lake Hiwassee. The Marina rents slips for a reasonable daily fee at their floating dock and it is accessible most of the year. There is also a boat launch at the marina that is free to use for anyone staying in Bear Paw resort.
Great cabin on a lake. Brought the boat and left it at the private dock all week. Nice free boat ramp at the Bear Paw marina. Make sure you bring everything you need because the grocery is a good hour drive round trip drive. Very quiet and secluded area.
Great cabin in Bear Paw. We had a great time during our stay here. This cabin is very quiet and out of the way, a lot more privacy than we’ve ever had while staying in Bear Paw. The house was clean, the property was clean as well. Very nice time.
First of all, the photos don’t do the place justice! We had the most relaxing weekend celebrating a birthday with family. The ability to inflate our paddle boards and leave them to come and go at our leisure was amazing. Plenty of beautiful places to paddle along the river. Walks through the neighborhood was so quiet and peaceful. The cabin had everything we needed (except a blender) amenity wise. We had a small hiccup checking in, but the host immediately replied and resolved everything in an instant - great communication! It was so nice to unplug and spend time in nature’s setting away from noise and distractions. We look forward to another visit soon!
We have loved going to Bearpaw for years. This is the first time we’ve stayed in this particular cabin. It was great, well appointed convenient and comfortable. The dock is very close to Harbor Cove Marina so it wasn’t quite as peaceful as we had anticipated, but it was fine.We can’t wait to go back!
Classic cabin vibe Leafy lot that feels secluded Quite a bit of sleeping areas including a loft (which all kids love) Nice fire pit, though we never got to use it (rain!) Nice deck with lots of seating for meals Landline phone with long-distance calling -- nice to have in an area with spotty mobile phone reception. Internet access. You don't come here for that, and it's not speedy enough to 'work from home' but it's nice to have the option to check on things. Easy walk down to the lake I'm amazed the giant green circa 1990s section has held up so well. It's not fashionable but it's comfy. We spent most of our time outside anyway. Which brings us to: awesome front porch swing, a great spot for when it rains. The owner sent very thorough instructions for everything. I especially appreciated the detailed turn-by-turn driving directions. GPS isn't much good in these parts. Tips: Don't forget a sweatshirt! The temperature does drop at night. And don't forget to grab the key to the pool before you drive down there! I do have a wish list of potential improvements. It's all very minor stuff, but just to be complete... Wishes: Recycling. That's not specific to this property but the Bear Paw development. We felt guilty throwing away a bunch of aluminum cans. I seem to recall passing by a recycling center but wasn't sure if it was just for full time residents. Some tips on DIY (carry out) recycling options would be appreciated. A proper cutting board that you can put in the dishwasher Pot holders (though dish towels worked well enough) Swapping the electric wine bottle opener (?) for something less boozy and more useful: a basic blender. A ladder for the dock, so kids could swim and get back up easily A resident canoe More sitting (vs. dining) chairs on the deck We had a fun time at this cabin and would definitely recommend it!
Great place if you want to get away from it all. My best friend’s family and mine stayed a week here. The house is adequate, has everything you need, and right on the lake. We brought 2 kayaks and really enjoyed the sunny days with the clear, pretty water on the lake, and making s’mores on the fire pit. There is decent WiFi, but we did not have any cell service at all. It is a fairly steep, short walk to the dock on property. The only downside -If you would consider this a downside- is that it is a good 25 minute drive to the closest gas station and 35-40 minutes to a grocery store. So do not forget anything while in town. :)
Great Cabin !! Awesome for our spring fishing trips!
