Allenspark, Colorado
Located near both the Wild Basin Entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park and Long's Peak trail head, this cabin is ideally suited to anyone looking for a base for hiking, riding, climbing, hunting or just lazing and star gazing.
The first floor includes a combined kitchen, dining room and living room, as well as two bedrooms and bath. Upstairs is a large loft overlooking the living room that most guests use as the master bedroom because of its large windows, the king size bed and it's stunning views of Mt. Meeker.
The house sits on an acre and a half lot. It is adjacent to Ponderosa Lodge (Property # 803298) which we often rent in tandem (it is about 100 yards down hill) and which can be accessed by a path. Many families have rented both houses together for family reunions and weddings.
We bought the house in 2001, although Susie had hoped to purchase it since first setting foot in in 1967, when her parents brought the family to meet the builder before purchasing the house down the hill.
There has always been something very special about this cabin. It feels isolated while still being close to amenities. Its an easy 15 minute drive to Estes, 45 minutes to Boulder, and 5 minutes to the booming metropolis of Allenspark (population 250!). The Meeker Park Lodge Livery is a short walk and in summer the lodge has a small grocery store for last minute items.
We are surrounded by Rocky Mountain National Park and Roosevelt National Forest so there is hiking in virtually every direction, from easy strolls to the trail head for one of Colorado's magnificent 14'ers. The Long's Peak trail head is just a brief drive.
Susie's family started coming out to this area in 1955 and have enjoyed the wonders of this area in every season. The abundance of wildlife (moose, elk, mule deer, bobcats, hawks, owls, chipmunks, squirrels, seen them all!) can be enjoyed from the deck.
The house is fully furnished and includes satellite and WiFi, a flat screen TV, DVD, games, books and a welcoming wood burning stove in the living room.
We’ve recently put in a new king size mattress and have made some other upgrades. Its a great house.

The pictures do not do justice to this cozy cabin! We loved the authentic mountain vibe and how charming and CLEAn it was! Waking up to Mountain View’s and feeling like you’re in the middle of the woods is a unique aspect of staying here. We hated to leave!
If you’re looking for a location close to RMNP but still want solitude, this is the cabin for you. Both the Long’s Peak and Wild Basin entrances are 5 minutes away. Estes Park is only about 20 minutes and the drive is beautiful. The cabin is small and rustic, but has everything you need. It made our childhood dreams of living in an A-frame in the woods come true.. The view from the bed in the loft bedroom in the early morning and on starry nights is amazing! The stairs are steep. We took a little flashlight up with us to see in the middle of the night without waking the other person. The living room furniture definitely needs to be replaced, but everything was very clean. Our biggest con has nothing to do with the cabin itself, but rather the pet fee. We have a 20lb, non-shedding dog and at $50/night, this added up to a whopping $550 for our 11 night stay. We did not notice this when we booked and at that time it was too late to change. All in all, we loved the cabin and would stay there again if the pet fee was a little more reasonable.
The location of this property is in close proximity to many major trailheads, including wild basin. I would recommend this property for avid hikers who want an early jump on the day. The cabin itself could use some updates.
Solitude was just the cabin we needed for our stay in Allenspark. Our nine year old grandson loves Lego and the Lego A frame kit, so he appreciated the architecture of this cabin. These are what the adults appreciated so much: the comfortable and inviting decor (loved the wall quilts and local historic pictures); the well stocked kitchen (even though we did not do a lot of cooking, it was amazing how efficiently so much was in the kitchen); the fantastic views of Mt Meeker; the night views from the loft windows; eating meals on the deck; the comfortable seating for family gatherings in the living room; naps on the deck; how well the cabin was maintained and how clean everything was; the location for enjoying the local sites and Rocky Mt Nat Park. We have been coming to Allenspark since 1967 and Solitude cabin helped us make this another memorable and historic visit!
The property was beautiful
We have stayed here several summers and enjoy the property. The view is amazing!
3rd time we’ve stayed at this cabin! It is the perfect cabin in the mountains, surrounded by beautiful aspens and pines. If you like peace & quiet, away from the hustle& bustle of Estes, this is your place!
Location was great- between rmnp beaver and wild basin. Only 20 min to estes park. Quite area.
It was a perfect get a way with my family. The cabin was more than accommodating for all our needs. There was more than enough blankets to keep us warm and towels to keep us clean. Very beautiful cabin, I would recommend this place to anyone.
This cabin was the most incredible place to spend a week exploring RMNP and the surrounding areas! It was the ideal place to have your morning coffee on the porch, rest after a hike, make dinner and play games. We will be coming back for sure!
Well-maintained and comfortable cabin for our party of four. Nice mountain ambience. Minutes away from Wild Basin entrance to RMNP via car. You can also access the park from a trail just north of property near a little camp ground on the other side of of Highway 7. Easy drive into Estes Park and main eastern entrances to RMNP.
