Stayed Sep 22, 2025Nice,quiet cabin in wooded area not far from lake with access close by to Smith Park. Host is close by if needed but we didn't have reason to do any extra communication because check in and out is quite clear.Cabin is well stocked and well maintained.Enjoy the large front porch.

Stayed Sep 4, 2025The cabin was adorable and close to all the hiking we wanted to do in the area. Although I wish the cabin was a bit more secluded, we had everything we needed during our stay and would absolutely recommend it.

Stayed Aug 28, 2025The little cabin by the lake was just what we needed. It was very clean, and everything worked properly. We have family nearby, so the location was excellent. Don't miss the Smith Memorial Park, which has public access to the lake. We plan to return soon!

Stayed Aug 24, 2025This property is as listed on VRBO. Its located near many wineries on the Seneca Trail. Only downside for us we would have liked to been able to walk to the lake. You can see it from the deck. We enjoyed our visit there and hope to be back.

Stayed Jul 31, 2025Peaceful, Perfect, and Even Better in Person! We had such a relaxing and memorable weekend at this beautiful lakeside cottage. It’s even prettier in person. Cozy, spotless, and stocked with essentials. The location was ideal for both adventure and downtime, and the price was just right! We kicked off our stay with a lovely evening at the nearby Stonecat Café with great food and live music in a relaxed setting. The next day, we hiked through Watkins Glen, enjoyed a laid-back lunch at The Oar House (Ruben was amazing!), and ended the day with a stunning sunset at Smith Park. We spent the following day at Smith Park again, relaxing by the lake and cruising around on our jetski. We wrapped it all up with a stop at the Ithaca Farmers Market on our way home. The hosts were amazing and quick to respond.A peaceful, picture-perfect getaway. Highly recommend!

The setting is beautiful and the accommodations were comfortable. The owners were communicative and very helpful. We will be renting this place again for family if it is available. Thank you.

Stayed May 23, 2025This property was beautiful, located just a stone throw from the lakes edge. The owners were extremely friendly, the type of friendly you can only find in a small town. They gave excellent recommendations, we ate at both the Scale House and Babes Burgers during our visit. We enjoyed smores and coffee by the fire pit. All we could hear was the hundreds of birds, perfect place to get away. I feel like the photos on the listing dont capture the charm of the cabin so i took some myself. Thanks again Susan & Henry

Stayed Jul 13, 2024We spent a week at Butternut Camp in Hector near Seneca Lake. Henry, one of the owners, was very nice and friendly during our stay. The place was very clean and well supplied including some ground coffee and cream in the refrigerator. Hector is a great home base for Watkins Glen, hiking trails and tons of wineries and breweries. There is a small view of Seneca Lake from the porch but there is no direct access in the neighborhood. It is nice to walk around the neighborhood. You will need to go to Smith Point Park to get public access which is just a few minutes away. The covered porch had a lovely table, chairs, and rocking chairs for us enjoy. The description of the VRBO listing indicates that it is a “Cozy - Cedar cabin with covered deck”. Cozy means very small and it is not a cabin, but actually a mobile home which was not mentioned in the description. The bedroom is very small with only enough room for the width of the night tables on either side of the queen sized bed with very little room at the end of the bed. The outside of the home, on the back and the sides had equipment, and debris including wood and piles of small rocks near the fire pit.
