Welcome to your perfect log cabin Smokey Mountain vacation! High Frontier Lodge sits on a very secluded and peaceful 4 acres of pristine mountain wilderness, bordered by a gushing trout creek in the Squally Valley that features cascading waterfalls and endless offroad and hiking trails.

Whether you’re on a biker’s getaway, hosting a retreat, or just looking to get away from it all with the family - or four families - the High Frontier Lodge has plenty of room and all the amenities you could want, with sleeping for 10 – yet at a price you’d expect for a cabin half it’s size.

From Robbinsville NC, you’ll have a picturesque drive into the wilderness around Lake Santeetlah on the National Scenic Cherahola Skyway. Although the Lodge is VERY private, getting there is easy. Drive 5 miles off the main road including a one mile section of packed gravel and a short ascent up the private year-round accessible PAVED drive, and you’ll find The Lodge and ample parking for up to four cars nestled into the trees on a flat spacious knoll. (There’s even covered parking for a motorcycle!) A custom, hand-built real log home, The Lodge was built with love and meant to blend seamlessly into the forest surroundings. Outside is the oversized 437 square foot viewing deck with unspoiled scenic forest and mountain views and enough grilling, dining, and relaxing space for the whole group. It’s so big, it was actually used for a country wedding!

Inside the cabin, you’re met with a soaring 22 foot high cathedral beamed ceiling in the open concept great room. Our kitchen comes overstocked with everything you’ll need for home cooked meals and then some, and the cook is always part of the group with the giant wood slab dining room table and living room all together in one large space. Four comfy leather couches and armchairs surround the native stack stone fireplace, huge flat-screen TV, and large bay window.

With hand built real log furniture throughout, wood crafted doors and knotty pine boards, plus central heat and AC, Wi-Fi internet, and DISH satellite TV - High Frontier Lodge is a perfect balance of modern and rustic log home. We furnish all the clean, sanitized, high-end linens so you walk into a cabin ready to enjoy. You’ll sleep like hibernating mountain bear on the Tempur-Pedic® bedding, with a king master and a second queen bedroom on the first floor, along with laundry and a full bathroom. Then upstairs, you have the third and fourth queen bedrooms, TWO full bathrooms, and a loft area with a couch, futon, and game console for the kids.

Enjoy your evenings gazing at the stars in the 7 person hot tub, situated in the back of The Lodge in a private woodland setting, listening to the sound of Squally Creek below. Then, set out during the day right from the front door to experience the waterfalls and endless offroad riding and hiking trails through thousands of acres of wild mountain forest. Or try trout fishing and boating on Lake Santeetlah, and visit other nearby attractions like Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, , Fontana Lake, Nantahala National Forest, Tail of the Dragon, and the Cherohola Skyway. Nature abounds! A little further down the road, you’ll love the downtown restaurants, museums, shops, and breweries of charming Bryson City, Silva, or Franklin. Kids will enjoy the nearby Cheoah Point man-made swimming beach in the summer, the extensive supply of games and toys, exploring the property’s ridges and valleys, and of course roasting marshmallows over the fire pit year round. There’s even two ski resorts within a 2 hour drive!

So bring your motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides, mountain bikes, or even just your dog, a good book, and a bottle of wine – and let us treat your family and friends to a priceless mountain memory.

You definitely get the full on experience of NC mountains. It was so nice to disconnect from our busy lives. I am so thankful we chose this place. Thank you Steve and Maria, God bless you and your family!

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE BOOKING:

Booking guest must have a positive rating or host recommendation from previous VRBO rentals. PLEASE DO NOT SEND US A BOOKING REQUEST IF YOUR ACCOUNT DOES NOT HAVE THIS. If you're not sure, please use the Contact Host link instead of a booking request and we'll be happy to let you know.

Booking guest must be age 25+, and must be present at the home for the duration of the stay. No one under the age of 18 is permitted on the property without their parent or legal guardian.

Booking guests will receive our Rental Agreement via email, once signed your reservation is confirmed.

Prior to booking, please send us a brief introductory message including number of adults and children, and number and size of dogs.

PLEASE NOTE:

Small groups pay less! If you don't need to use four bedrooms, you don't have to pay for them. The guest fee is $5 per night, per guest over six. Please enter your actual guest count at booking.

Pet Policy: We love our canine friends but with them comes extra responsibility for leaving our cabin in the same excellent condition that you found it. One or two dogs are allowed. Dogs must be older than 6 months and fully house trained – not using “pee pads”. Dogs are not allowed onto the beds or any furniture, guests who disregard this will be responsible for bedding or furniture replacement. Dogs left alone in the cabin for any length of time must be confined to a dog crate. Locking a dog in a room is not an acceptable alternative. There is a large crate in the downstairs bedroom closet, if you'll need two crates you must bring your own. Please have “poop bags” and clean up after them if they poop anywhere other than in the forest.

The WiFi is capable of download speeds up to 25 Mbps which has been adequate for “Zoom calls”. In order to provide WiFi to our guests throughout the calendar month, guests are allowed 1.7 GB/day for the total duration of your stay (5 nights = 8.5GB) which should be plenty for email and light web browsing. If you plan on working from the cabin, you may purchase additional data tokens from Hughesnet.

The Lodge is very accessible year round by any normal 2WD vehicle but drivers of cars with extremely lowered suspensions won't enjoy our country roads. If you are arriving on a motorcycle, please ensure you can handle your bike on gravel and paved inclines with turns. If you are bringing a trailer, be aware that you might not have room to turn around without disconnecting it.

We suggest guests purchase travel insurance in the event your vacation plans change outside of the cancelation policy window.

The cabin was very nice, clean, well furnished, and private. I would not recommend for motorcycles that are riding double up with luggage as there are some tight turns and a decent amount of unstable roads.

We celebrated our 55th wedding anniversary with our children and grandchildren. The house is quite remote and if you get lost the roads are not great. Once we arrived at the house we found everything we needed. The kitchen was well stocked, the patio cushions comfortable and the peace and quiet enjoyable.

This cabin was perfect for my family. Loved the fact that it is so secluded. Only noise we heard was the stream below us. We did drive to the cabin first before realizing that our place was the lodge. Amazing place and written directions were great.

This home is outstanding and the hosts very hospitable and attentive. You couldn't ask for a better experience. We had everything we needed during our stay seeing how town is a little bit of a drive but I am very familiar with the area and planned accordingly. The house is remote and very quiet and peaceful. The driveway is a bit of a challenge but paved and once driven it becomes easier. I pulled a 7X12 trailer up it and with a little patience was doable. I highly recommend staying here!

Do not let the fact that this home is off the beaten path deter you from staying here! We had the best week! Communications with the owner were so prompt and always very helpful. We know the area well so knew what to expect road wise. There is fresh gravel in the road coming in and yes if you have a pickup you may spin going up the hill but that’s part of the adventure!! The rest is a little bumpy in places but again, you are back in there a bit. The owner clearly states this. You don’t have to drive fast at all anyway! Personally, we loved it! The hill coming to the lodge its itself is very steep and hairpin turns but if we can do it in our huge f250 long bed extended cab then you can too! It’s so worth it!! Very private and peaceful. All of the beds were sooo comfortable. There was plenty of room for our group of 6 (all but my husband and I needed their own space to sleep) and it worked great. The front porch is a room in itself so take time to sit and enjoy it. We loved just sitting and reading after a day of trout fishing nearby. Our kiddos are older but if you have a younger child this is such a great place for them to explore little trails and paths surrounding the cabin. We are able to walk our dog leash free with no concerns which was great! I highly recommend this cabin! I highly rely on reviews myself and I wouldn’t recommend if I didn’t honestly think it s a great place to stay. No cell phone service but you can call over wireless which is what we did to check in.

This property was just amazing! I loved the privacy! The cabin itself was perfect. The beds were comfortable, decor just right, plenty of dishes and cups. I loved being able to completely disconnect. I have an 11 and 9 year old and they played outside or in the loft continously. They never once said they were bored. Outside was great! The hot tub was hot and spacious. The firepit was definitely a favorite. I loved the huge porch for reading, morning coffee, and meals. We even saw two owls fly over! If you're on the fence, don't be. This place was like living inside a Bob Ross painting (happy trees and streams)
