Shepherdstown, West Virginia
Relax and escape to the peace and quiet by the Potomac river, and wake to beautiful romantic views of the river and mountains, in this romantic 200 square foot tiny house situated on 2.5 acres, 450 feet of river front land. Explore and take advantage of all the activities on the river and surrounding area. Fish, bike, kayak, tube, or just sit by the river and watch the birds and wild life. Sit and read by the river or in the quite comfort of the house, w/ a bottle of wine on us. Experience tiny house living with this unique home while still enjoying some modern comforts. There is no running water in the home and the bathroom is a modern outhouse.
This is a 1940s refurbished fisherman's cabin. It was likely built in or about 1942 as the original electric fixtures are from that date, we had to modernize them though as they don't meet current code. It is very likely that the structure was built to replace an older wooden structure in the same location. There is electricity but no running water, bottled water is provided.
NOTE that the bathroom is a pit outhouse located nearby.
On the west side of the 200square foot room, you will find a very comfortable Queen sized bed with CertiPUR foam mattress and lots of pillows. There are several blankets. At the foot is a WWII mail crate restored and converted to a trunk that was found in the tiny house, used to store extra linens and blankets. Above the headboard is a fantastic decorative shelf made from river maple that fell by the river in front of the building. Right in front of the bed is a window affording great views of the river.
On the east side of the building is the sitting area with kitchen cabinets. The counter is made from old reclaimed barn door complete with the clasp. The shelves above are from the from of the barn door complete with hinges. Equipped with utensils, a microwave, dorm fridge, and crock water dispenser. A table for two in front of another river facing window.
Outside is a small porch with two comfortable chairs and BBQ, that has a commanding view of the river. The cabin and this sitting area are nestled back into the wooded hillside loved by a plethora of songbirds and woodpeckers. We have an unheated outdoor seasonal shower (turned off before first frost in fall).
Home sits on 2.5 acres adjacent to the Potomac river with C&O national historical park across the river. This section of the river is usually shallow and often can be walked across, near Packhorse Ford. Between the property and Shepherdstown is the historic battlefield of Shepherdstown with walking path and markers.
Nestled to the other side of the tiny house is the very clean and comfortable pit toilet (out house). It is in the original location but all rebuilt with modern seat and plenty of privacy, well vented and stocked with hand sanitizer.
Full access to all living spaces, parking area, all yard areas.
The river front and fire pit are shared areas with the Stone River house.
House includes:
Free WiFi, but no TV
heat
bedding
microwave
BBQ and porch with a view
Beautiful property and great scenery throughout the town.
The history of the tiny house, beautiful scenery, and solitude was wonderful, even in the winter.
We loved it
I had a great stay here. Cabin was very clean and cozy! The location is beautiful! Listing was accurate, hosts were responsive. Definitely somewhere I would like to visit again.
It was a small ride outside of Shepherdstown, with a bit of a hill back to the trail in the morning, but it’s a nice peaceful and comfortable little house. The location just next to the Battle of Shepherdstown site was a bonus for this Civil War buff!
If you like really rustic, this is a gem of a property at a great price.
The tiny house is indeed tiny but exactly as advertised and everything I needed. It was adorable, comfy, and clean. The outhouse was not my favorite thing in the world but definitely cleaner than any porta potty I have ever seen. Shepherdstown is very cute with great little shops and cafes. The area was quiet and the river was absolutely gorgeous. And most importantly for me, as a single lady staying there, I felt super safe. I'll be back.
If you are looking for a place to get away and relax this is the spot!!! The property manager was very responsive. We had a GREAT stay.
Wonderful place to stay, near a great little town full of history, the Potomac river was relaxing to sit in and enjoy the day.
Beautiful property. My boyfriend and I had not a care in the world spending 2 days in the river. A great way to spend quiet quality time.
My favorite summer getaway!! Very rustic but in a beautiful way! Can’t wait to come again! The cabin is furnished well, the outdoor shower is so refreshing and the pit toilet is very tolerable and functional! Highly recommend this place!!
We had a great time at the cabin. Loved being on the river. Located on a beautuful road just outside of town. A very relaxing and peaceful trip. Will definitely be back!
Rustic cabin tucked on hillside over looking the beautiful Potomac River. Quiet and charming. Perfect place to relax and meditate..
Good access to the river, cozy accommodations, and kind, helpful hosts.
Perfect place to get away from reality for a couple of days.
We enjoyed this rustic little spot along the Potomac River. Shepardstown offered the best of historical small town life with lots of quirky shops, cafes, and picturesque buildings dressed up in fall colors and Halloween decorations.
I will DEFINITELY book again next year!1
Exactly what I was looking for! Property was accurately described! The only way I could leave was to promise myself that I would return.
So private, yet very close to any needs. Beautiful location, quiet and serene. The tiny house was clean and comphy. We enjoyed the deck and the fire pit. There was a slight musty smell in the house, but burning the provided candle helped. Might I suggest peat moss for the outhouse.
Perfectly lovely, and a great place to bring your bikes and ride north and south on River Road. Can’t wait to come back!
Left early because the peace and quiet I was looking for was not to be had, Too much traffic noise and the heat pump in the window by the bed kept going on and off and waking me up. I only stayed one night of the three I paid for. Needs a new microwave and a new mattress.
