Lakeview, Oregon
Surrounded by wilderness and only 15 miles from Lakeview and its airport and amenities (WiFi, restaurants, Old West museums)!
Squirrelville is a century-old cabin located at 5700 feet elevation in the beautiful Warner Mountains. It's fully furnished, with 110V power, a woodstove, queen bed, sofa bed, refrigerator, stereo, outdoor shower, outhouse, big country sink, microwave, 2 burner hotplate, BBQ, blender, coffee maker, and a hammock on private, fenced property in Ponderosa/Aspen forest. The wide open spaces of the Great Basin desert are close. Very few people, wilderness, many trails, hot springs, hang-gliding, fishing, Hart Mt. antelope refuge, wildlife viewing, bird watching, roller-blading in season (really!), Mt. biking, hiking, photography, snow mobiling, cross country skiing, and downhill skiing at Warner ski area 5 miles away. Enjoy peace and quiet in a beautiful, private remote wilderness. The "Old West" personified, with year 'round adventure!
Cam and Christine are attentive and kind hosts. The property is (as described) rustic. The setting is almost idyllic. However, there are no south-facing windows in the cabin, and minimal lighting, so being indoors was gloomy. Outdoors, there was one comfortable seat: the sunset bench, located about 75 yards down the hill. The mattress was adequate, but not comfortable. The lack of running water was something we were able to cope with, but the outdoor shower situation was (despite the hosts' best efforts) horrid. Many folks (according to the guest book) have had lovely getaways here and are eager to return. We are not among them. We very much enjoyed our time together, but spent most of it out and about exploring the hiking in the area.
Wow what a relaxing beautiful place this is. We enjoyed every minute of it. We had tons planned for the weekend but we didnt get out due to it being so relaxing and rewarding at the cabin and it’s surroundings! We were content with looking at all of the cool stuff, listening to Cams music, cooking, reading, hammocking and the sun shower was a blast and soothing. The outhouse was absolutely adorable and clean and fresh. When you come bring a little souvenir to leave in the cabin. I brought painted rocks. For sure we will come again! Thank you Cam and Christinetou two are amazing!!!
Really enjoyed our stay in Oregon's high desert. Rural property that takes you back to how your grandparents lived. Part of the charm is roughing it a bit, and being able to disconnect. Close enough to town for the essentials, and a walk away from cell service if you must. Cam and his wife were great. Met us at the property and showed us around. Had everything prepared when we arrived, and had answered our questions in advance. If you want to truly get out of town and enjoy serenity, this is the place! Thank you Cam!
The location of the property is wonderful. That said the cabin could use some improvements like a fan for it gets pretty warm inside at night and currently the shower system consists of sun bags hung from a hook, something less than ideal.
What a cozy cabin in a beautiful area- we had such a fun and relaxing time here! For cross-country skiers- there are a couple official sno-parks nearby or you can just put your skis on at the door of the cabin and venture up the road and onto the old logging access roads. We also loved hiking and soaking in the hot springs at Hart mountain and playing board games around the wood stove. Thanks Cam and Christine for your hospitality and gifting us homemade pie on Thanksgiving, such a treat!
Squirrel Lille was perfect for our SE Oregon adventure. The cabin is well outfitted with supplies and is quite snug. My granddaughter was a bit put off by the outhouse but she loved the wood burning stove. We did need 4 wheel drive to get up the driveway as the snow was quite deep. Cam was a great host.
We so enjoyed our stay in this historic cabin. The hosts were wonderful and they had thought of every touch in supplying the cabin with whatever one might need. Highly recommended and a great jumping off spot to Hart Mountain! We will be returning for sure :)
We wanted to get away and be away from it all. This property is perfect and amazing. Cam and his wife have everything you need and are so friendly. We enjoyed our stay and wish we could have stay longer. Our dog loved chasing the squirrels and running around. This is the perfect spot to get away and relax and not worry about the outside world!
Staying at Squirrelville was a wonderful and magical experience! It was during Thanksgiving week-end and there was snow everywhere. What a peaceful place! And Thank you Cam and Christine for your kindness! We will cherish those memories!
