Exactly as it was described, it's a nice rustic cabin deep in the woods by the river. It's very off the beaten path, which was just perfect for our needs. No wifi, no big TV, spotty internet/phone service, so we just chilled, hiked, enjoyed cooking and each other's company. VRBO owner was a great communicator and the cabin was very well appointed with everything we needed. Pleasant stay!
Great stay; quite and peaceful. Responsive and accommodating hosts. Thank you for letting my son and me enjoy your beautiful property.
Cute cabin to stay in. Not very private if you are staying with extended family as only curtains divide the bed and bunk beds.
Loved reading about the history of the cabin, water levels, and the work put into making it what it is today. Sunroom, bon fire and walking the beach looking for rocks were some highlights!
The rustic charm and beauty of this property was definitely more than we expected. We were pleasantly surprised at the extent the owners went to , to ensure our stay was comfortable. We didn’t want to leave when it came time! When we were unloading our car last night, we found a couch pillow from the cabin that we accidentally walked off with. I think our 17 year old son scooped it up with the blanket and pillow he brought from home. I feel horrible about this and if you’re the owner of the property and reading this, please shoot me an email of an address we can send the pillow to. We live 5 hours away. We would definitely recommend this property! Just an awesome stay and we hope to be back one day.
When you want to truly be off the beaten path, this is the right place to go. Be prepared for plenty of dirt/gravel roads and getting back to the basics with nature. You will enjoy the quiet mornings and peaceful river. You can't ask for better neighbors to chat with. All the beds were clean and cozy, and the black out curtains were helpful for wanting to sleep in. Time your showers, as the water heater needs time to heat the water after 2 showers. Bring your own drinking water, as the well water is heavy with minerals. Enjoy some tasty food and great ambiance at the local General Store Pub. The Maquoketa Caves are not too far and worth the exploration!
The cabin was clean and a great place to stay near Prospect Meadows. Wish we could have stayed longer!
Great time and really great people!
Great location for an off the grid experience. Big yard to hang out in steps away from the river. Friendly neighbors. We found out if you have Verizon you will get signal at the bottom of the front steps. Couldn't find outlets in the main bedroom, but found extention cords, so that was great. Kids loved the bunk beds and the other bed on the other side of the room where all the kids hung out together. Great screened in porch to stay away from the nightly bugs. Great fireplace. Played volleyball. Kids loved the seesaw and fished daily. Caught baby catfish. We floated down the river with the tubes that were in the shed. Would definitely stay here again if it weren't for the teenage girls being bored without internet. Might have to make a trip with just the boys and dad.
It was such a peaceful place, quiet, perfect distance from the beach and water that our young kids were able to play and we didn't have to worry about them running to the water, but even when we took them to swim the water was perfect for swimming in.. Cabin of course could use a little updating but nothing that made a dent in in fun we had.. We caught fish, we tubed, we found some fun and interesting places near by to eat... Also the shed filled with toys and tunes and anything we needed for fun, was very much appreciated! Already planning a trip for next year!
This was a great property to stay at! The kids enjoyed the river very much and swam a lot! We hung up a sheet between two trees and projected a movie one night. The adults enjoyed the off grid - we didn't have cell service or internet access. It was great to unplug.
This was a great place for our annual Memorial weekend getaway. We don’t require much, but this far exceeded our expectations. Kids AND adults had a blast.
Our family had a lovely time here! The property is huge and secluded and right on the beach. My kids had a blast playing in the river and they loved sleeping on the bunk beds. Thank you for a wonderful time.
