Black Mountain, North Carolina
Upon entering this opulent, well-appointed post & beam log cabin, you'll be greeted with floor-to-ceiling views of the surrounding mountain landscape and the fresh scent of newly-cut wood. In the living room, you'll find luxe leather furniture, a stone fireplace (nonfunctional), and a faux bear skin rug adding to the cozy mountain lodge ambiance. You'll also find the gorgeous spiral staircase that leads to the lower level apartment area that doubles as a game room (complete with a kitchenette and bathroom) and the upstairs loft area with an additional bedroom, and living area complete with a 60-inch TV with Roku (streaming only), poker table, and an office with a connected workspace with a desk, computer monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
In the evening, use the stereo receiver built into the wall in the living room to stream the "Mountains & Whiskey" Spotify playlist filled with dreamy & soulful indie folk tracks to set the mood for your mountain getaway while creating a delicious 3-course meal in the spacious kitchen (complete with smooth surface stove, dishwasher, and granite countertops).
Gather at the dining table tucked within the cabin's circular turret offering panel views of the woodlands and peaks just outside to enjoy dinner and a life-giving conversation with the ones you love. After dinner, wander out onto the deck to watch the dusk settle in before soaking in the luxurious hot tub with a glass of wine under the clear starry sky, or sit by the cozy outdoor fire pit (firewood provided) to swap stories and share a beer. Those not quite ready for bed can go up to the loft for a game of Monopoly or rummy, or head to the basement for ping-pong.
Store all your snacks and sodas in the basement's kitchenette so you don't have to go upstairs & risk waking others when you're craving some munchies during those late-night matches. In the morning, brew coffee & hang the bird feeders on the deck railing to spot some colorful flyers throughout the day (please be sure to bring these in at night to avoid unwanted bears that may try to climb up & steal a nibble). Enjoy the crisp mountain breeze on your face as you sip your morning coffee without a care in the world.
When you're feeling energized, walk through the sun-filled terraced gardens (with seasonal flower cutting), or challenge yourself by embarking on a short (0.1 mile) but steep hike on the nearby nature trail that leads to the "rock garden" filled with epic natural rock formations. Beautiful in every season, these natural wonders form scintillating patterns of frost and ice in the winter and are blanketed with lush moss and wildflowers in the warmer summer months. Situated at an altitude of 3000 ft with views of the majestic Swannanoa & Black Mountains to the north—including Mt Mitchell, the highest point east of the Mississippi-Rock Garden Roost has everything you're looking for in a mountain escape while still being just a 15-minute drive to Chimney Rock State Park (with Lake Lure just a few minutes beyond), 30-minute drive to Black Mtn., and a 45-minute drive to Asheville.
With charming shops, local restaurants, and delightful attractions, the small town of Black Mtn. delivers an unforgettable small-town experience while Asheville provides an eccentric series of adventures you'll daydream about long after returning home. From the grand Biltmore Estate to the colorful River Arts District to the scenic stretches of the Blue Ridge Parkway, there's an endless array of activities to choose from.

He’s really nice cozy quiet beautiful home
This beautiful home had everything we needed and more, very clean also. I am definitely going to revisit this special place.
We were looking for a property away from busy touristy towns where we could relax and enjoy time together as a family the day after Christmas. This property was everything we anticipated. It was only myself, husband and 2 girls (12 and 8). The kitchen was spacious and well equipped. It had absolutely everything we could need. The master bedroom and an extra room were on the first floor attached by the laundry and master bath. There were plenty of books, a desk and a nice recliner in the spare room for relaxing. Up a spiral staircase was a large room with windows that could open to the dining area (my girls loved this), a full bed and a twin size bed. There was a living area with a large card table, TV and Xbox on the upper floor. Across the hall was an open office that overlooked the master bedroom. It had a futon and extra linen. It was obviously not very private for the master but definitely an extra sleeping option if needed. In the basement was a full kitchen, large bathroom and bedroom with a ping pong table, TV, and keyboard piano. It had separate entry from the main house if needed and would be awesome for multi-generational visitors. The outdoor area had a great hot tub, solo stove, plenty of firewood, seating and the best view. The drive up to the home is a little nerve racking at first, but once we did it once or twice it was fine. We drive an AWD SUV and had no problems with getting there. We did not have a problem with water at all, we washed dishes, used the dishwasher and washed clothes with 4 people showering daily. One thing to note is the home is at least 30 min from the nearest store. It was a good drive to Lake Lure and Asheville. We didn’t mind that at all and knew this when we booked. We didn’t need anything from the rental agency, but they were very helpful and checked in with us several times prior to our stay and made sure we were prepared for our visit. We loved everything about the home and would definitely return if we were ever back in the area.
We booked this house for thanksgiving weekend and so glad we did. They have a fully stocked kitchen, coffe makers. Two refrigerators and four beds. The place was exceptionally clean and well maintained. We didn’t have any issues with hot water. Wi-Fi was reliable. Breathtaking view all around The drive up to the property was steep and agree with AWD/4WD vehicle.
What an incredibly beautiful home settled on the side of the mountain with indescribable views! This home is worth the haul up the mountain. The privacy, views, and special touches from the property owners (cut your own wild flowers while you stay) make this home an ideal destination! Five stars all around!
This is a beautiful and comfortable home with magnificent views. The driveway approching the home is somewhat difficult to maneuver during daylight hours; it is dangerous at night.
Beautiful house and property. Location a bit tricky, but the views we're just amazing. The hot tub was out of commission but I enjoyed the soaking tub. The falls at the bottom of the hill are really pretty.
This house is beautiful, clean, well appointed with large bedrooms and a sparkling kitchen. Amazing vistas, gorgeous landscaping, an inviting fire pit and trails: it's exactly what you're hoping for on a mountain getaway. Would have easily given it 5 stars, except.... After 36 hours the house ran out of water - nothing from the taps. We are not excessive or wasteful. This is a structural flaw. The real issue though was the lack of support from the rental agency: 1. When we called to tell them about the water, the first reaction was a host of excuses: we brought too many guests, they warned us in advance, we didn't understand the reality of mountain living, it was a new property for them. On the warning: 48 hours before we arrived I called them to ask about a crib. During that chat they airily remarked that the guest maximum was 8, we had 9 and we might have an issue with HOT water. There was no warning about losing water entirely. Also, 4 of our 9 guests were under age 7 and they showered together - it's silly to claim one extra 6 year old caused this. 2. Then, they told us we had to move. They made an attempt to find another house and told us to call other rental agencies ourselves, and mentioned that the Days Inn (?!) might have space. They didn't seem to get that we didn't WANT to move and wanted to work with them on a solution - we suggested they cover the cost of a hotel room we could visit to shower and they said no. We unilaterally decided to tough it out and spent ~$120 on water jugs, paper plates, napkins, and plastic cutlery. After a day the water slowly began to replenish and we severely restricted use for the remainder of our stay. We still had a great time by making light of the situation and not caring about getting a bit grimy. We didn't hear a peep from them after that. No check ins and certainly no courtesy water drop-off. They did refund us for 3 nights of our stay. Is this a fantastic property? Yes. Does it have a major flaw? Yes, but either it'll be fixed or you can come prepared (hello, dry shampoo and wet wipes!) In our minds the choice for any renter is whether you are OK figuring out what to do if something else goes wrong - the rental agency missed an opportunity to provide good customer service to a reasonable group of folks trying to make the best of a challenging but by no means impossible situation.
Gorgeous property! The house is huge and the view is amazing! Loved our stay!
As four busy professionals, we rented this home for a peaceful holiday weekend and it sure delivered! The home was impeccably clean and cared for, the views were stunning, and we had no problem getting to the home in the Jeep we rented. We will definitely be back!
