Blacksburg, Virginia
Camp Ketahe is named after the Shawnee Indian phrase "ni kitehi thiipi" which means my heart is at the river. This home is perfect for that family reunion - affordable, cozy, and perfectly houses adults and kids!
Enjoy this calm part of the river with water shallow enough for young children in parts but deep enough to go out and swim (if you venture out a little further!). Enjoy evening time fires at the fire pit down by the water (firewood is included!). This is a great, affordable option to get everyone together for a great get away.

Peaceful location, right on the water. The weather was iffy, so we didn't get to use the fire pit. House was spacious enough for the four of us. If you bring a large group, there is no dishwasher. We didn't cook and ordered takeout, so it was fine, but if we were cooking for the family, that would have been a pain.
very clean property, great for use as a small family reunion.
The view from the porch to the backyard is amazing. It is right in the river with a beautiful hill across the river. Birds and squirrels made chatter and the sound of the river was so soothing.
Nice stay. Only negative is little to no connection available to cell service, not the houses fault, just rural.
Family loved the cabin. Well equipped with the essentials. We spent both nights around the fire pit. Easy day trip to hike angels rest on the AT. Plenty of room downstairs for the kids and ample covered porch space. The fish were elusive during the trip but we will have to return in the spring to try again!
We enjoyed our stay! We didn’t mind that there was no WiFi and we were able to get calls on our cellphone!
Property was older than pictures indicated. Property was not clean. Some furniture is very well used .It is a great location with great views. Great deck and new grill.
My family stayed at the New River Retreat: Camp Ketahe for Memorial Day weekend. The location was very nice, but it is very rural. Just be prepared to drive a little way for groceries and other supplies and you'll be fine. The property itself was very nice. We did have two elderly folks with us and a baby, and the spiral staircase was a bit of a concern. We used the rocking chair in the living room to block the spiral staircase for our baby, and the elderly folks had to use the outside staircase to go between floors. Also, there is no cell phone service or internet to be had at this property. Just beware of this and plan accordingly. We were concerned that we might have difficulty should we need to reach 911 for assistance. To alleviate this concern, New River Retreat informed us that there are other properties nearby with internet service. Just beware of this and make arrangements ahead of time should you need a connection to the outside world.
We loved all that this property had to offer. You cannot beat being that close to the river and what it has to offer. House held 4 adults without issue and could maybe hold a 4th. Do not expect any contact with the outside world here, there is no cell reception and no WiFi. Gas grill was a nice discovery, I believe the listing showed charcoal. I will say that the grassy area that leads to the river is an absolute minefield when it comes to geese droppings. There was no way to walk around them as the ground was covered. Not sure what can be done here, but it was a turn off.
Great place on the river. Clean. Beautiful views. No WiFi and no phone service. Great get away place unless you plan a working vacation or plan to stay in touch with anyone…
