Roughing it never looked so good!
We invite you to experience the outdoors in this fully furnished cabin that offers such amenities as A whirlpool tub and air conditioning …… while capturing the classic, old style cabin look and feel with hand hewn beams, stone work, and old wood floors. The cabin is completely furnished and comfortably sleeps four with a bedroom downstairs and a loft.

Located conveniently between 2 of Pennsylvania’s most popular state parks - Ricketts Glenn and Worlds End, Black Bear Cottage is a hiker’s destination offering something for everyone.
Ricketts Glen State Park is on 13,050 acres in Columbia, Luzerne, and Sullivan counties known for its old-growth forest and 24 named waterfalls along Kitchen Creek. Worlds End State Park, located in the Loyalsock Creek valley, is a 780-acre Pennsylvania state park in Sullivan County that features exceptional hiking, swimming, and picnic areas for the family to enjoy.

Not hiking Then have a seat on the front porch and unwind or gather around the firepit, tell some tales, and create some memories. Other area attractions include local wineries, antique shops, Knoebels Amusement Resort, and some of the best trout fishing in the state!

With many grocery and convenience stores located in the area, as well as several locations offering eat-in and take-out services, it’s not necessary to cook all meals, but if you do, the kitchen is fully stocked.

Note – The layout of this cabin is from the 1960’s and a ladder was initially installed to access the loft. When the modern bathroom was added, a stairwell was installed as a safer option to get to the loft in this cabin. Due to safety concerns, the ladder has been removed. In order to get to the loft, the stairwell in the bathroom must be used. The layout is unique but guests do not seem to mind.
We wanted to make guests aware of this layout if 4 people are staying at the cabin.

Linens are provided at an additional cost upon request.

AC is typically installed by June 1.

Firewood is not provided but is sold onsite.
Due to lantern fly infestations in other parts of PA, we prefer you do not bring firewood from outside the area.

When staying between Nov - April some snow accumulation should be anticipated in the area. A FWD, AWD, or 4WD vehicle is best for these conditions - as driveways and roadways may have some snow cover and not all cover is able to be plowed.

There is an exterior camera located on the property for security.

We encourage all of our guests to purchase travel insurance for unforeseen circumstances and cancellations. Ricketts Glen Falls Trail Update: On SATURDAY 3/21/26 the lower portion of the Falls Trail was opened to regular hiking for the year. It will be open from PA Route 118 up to Waters Meet. A total of 3 waterfalls are visible on this section, 4 if you include Adams Falls just south of 118. The upper loop of the Falls Trail system (everything above Waters Meet) will remain closed for another couple of weeks while ice continues to melt and staff can gain access to clear out more heavily iced areas. To access the upper portion of the trail system ice hikers still need to sign in with the park office and have the required minimum safety equipment of: Crampons (not micro-spikes), an ice axe, and rope for every individual entering. This message will be updated again as soon as the status of the upper portion of the trail changes.

The check-in was very easy, we received the code before leaving and punched it in when we arrived and had no issues. The fireplace in the living room had a remote, and you could set the thermostat from the wall. It is a great location, a very quiet spot in the woods, we even saw deer in the back yard, but also close to town and local events. The kitchen has everything you need, and the bed was very comfortable. It was the perfect blend of rustic with all the modern conveniences.

We loved the cabin, it was decorated perfectly and had all the amenities needed for our stay. The property is as beautiful as listed in the pictures and listing. My wife and i had planned to another trip to Maine for our anniversary, unfortunately we had to cancel that trip. Fortunately for us we found Jess's cabin and we commented several times that our trip was a wonderful replacement. We had a wonderful time hiking at Rickets Glen and enjoyed the falls and nature trails. We also took a trip to Worlds End. Overall we would highly recommend the cabin for a wonder time. Thank you Jess, we appreciated your attentiveness to detail to make our stay memorable. John and Heidi

Such a wonderful, relaxing cabin. I'm never sure when booking a new place whether the property is photographed to appear private but is really not. This couldn't have been more beautiful. It's on a large lot in the woods by itself. We can't wait to go back!

The cabin was very charming and rustic, clean and equipped. We were lucky enough to visit when there was snow and got the full winter wonderland experience. The kitchen had all cooking necessities and the gas fireplace was a nice touch. Would definitely go back.

I will start by saying that the cabin was quaint, clean and comfortable. The heat is rather loud, but we adjusted to it after the 1st night. The cooking pans should also probably be replaced as they were nonstick but showed some wear. Unfortunately, I had a very unpleasant exchange after we left some items behind. I expressed that I thought the extra fee plus shipping was excessive. When I shared this with the owner, she berated me for leaving things behind. She complained that she had to store the items at her house, pack them and then had to drive to the post office on a Saturday. She oddly insinuated that we left them behind on purpose or something. If she would have just kindly explained that she had to drive a distance to pick the items up and then ship them, I would have been more understanding. What would/should have been a nice memory of our annual winter stay at a cabin, is instead replaced with an unkind exchange with the owner.

Spent a night in the cabin with my girlfriend to get away from the city for a night. Location to Rickets Glen State Park is amazing. I highly suggest doing the main waterfall trail there. Takes about 3 hours with moderate difficulty due to a lot of steps and slippery surfaces. The cabin definitely has an authentic rustic feel if that’s what you’re looking for. It’s clear they have done/are doing some construction there. The fire pit is a really nice one, but the beds could use some help. Also the whole you need to bring your own sheets/towels unless you want to pay a fee is a little weird, I haven’t seen that before. But we did and it was all good. The best feature was definitely the loft but we didn’t get to make use of it since the larger bed is downstairs. All in all a great getaway to the woods!
