Mountains & Meadows at Turkey Pen is the perfect destination to enjoy with your family and friends, especially if you are looking for a private retreat. This family homestead of 250 acres is a pristine property, surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest. The creeks, ponds, barns, & undisturbed private mountains offer a peaceful, private backdrop. Guests are welcome to bring their personal horses for horseback riding (separate fee, must book). The property borders miles of national forest trails.

Our cabin sits on a hilltop overlooking pastures with horses, waterwheel, fishing pond, and stream. While sitting in a rocking chair, or swinging on the porch swing, you will enjoy the panoramic mountain views. The quietness offers a relaxing and tranquil vacation.

Our secluded 250 acres of heavily wooded forest borders the Pisgah National Forest. 'Turkey Pen' trail-head is where Native Americans once gathered wild turkeys. We still unearth arrowheads today and wild turkey sightings are a regular occurrence.

As a participant in North Carolina's Stewardship Program, we are committed to preserving wildlife and enhancing the land. During your stay you will see many species of birds, wild turkey, deer, and other wildlife.

We offer private hiking trails that adjoin the National Forest. There are also Blue Ribbon trout streams that are accessible from these trails. They are a long hike to get to & are much easier to access by car. Bring your own horse if you want to. We offer a separate pasture with a stream to accommodate your horse. However, we do not provide shelter or stalls. Horse pasture available for a separate fee & by reservation.

While we do offer a private retreat, we are conveniently located to Brevard, Asheville, and Hendersonville, NC, that are just minutes away.

The owners live on the property along with a caretaker. They maintain the property and care for the animals. Interaction with them is limited but they are happy to answer any questions that's guests may have.

We are excited to announce we now have hvac on the 1st floor, heat & a/c. The heat does rise & leaving the upstairs doors open will help heat the bedrooms upstairs. There are window AC units in the rooms upstairs and space heaters. Fire wood for the fireplace & fire pit can be provided at an additional charge with notice.

We only accept 1 night bookings last minute, 7-10 nights out depending on the season.

We are unable to accommodate any type of snow plow to the roads or driveway. This means that if there is an inclement storm in our area that could effect your reservation, it could be altered or refunded. Safety is the top priority during winter reservation months.
The ponds are available for catch & release fishing, not swimming.

We had a wonderful time at Turkey Run cabin. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was nicely furnished. The bed was comfy. The view was so lovely while sitting on porch swing. We did a lot of hiking in Pisgah Forest and the waterfalls are so pretty. Loved coming back to the cabin and being greeted by the friendly horses.Alisha was great at communication with us.Brevard was a charming town and people so friendly. We hope to return in the future!

We stayed here for a few days over spring break with three teenagers and two golden retrievers. It was perfect for us. The kids loved being able to walk out into the pastures to pet the horses. The boys loved fishing on the pond. It was close enough that we were able to go to Brevard for dinner one evening while also enjoying the wide open spaces of the farm. We enjoyed the view from our porch as we ate lunch and grilled burgers. It was perfect for us and dogs definitely had the time of their lives

The home had plenty of sleeping space and a small den to relax in. The home was very clean, had plenty of towels, and is quite secluded. The cabin is located on a working ranch with 4 beautiful horses the owner let us feed long carrots to. It’s about 20min (mostly getting out of the property to the main road) to the Mt Pisgah National Forest and 35min to downtown Asheville. Our dog spent most of his time on the back porch and enjoyed the sights, sounds, and smells. We tried to fish the pond but had no luck, better luck to you all! I had several questions upon arrival and our host answered them all immediately. It was a great Spring Break for the family. Thank you for having us on the property.

The property was on a lovely setting. Our issue was that they broadcast some sort of chemical on the landscape surrounding the house on two different days during our stay. We left two days early when they were applying this for the second day. The person applying it was wearing a mask and the wind carried this stuff right up to the rental.Disappointing.

I loved this place!!! I took my 3 grandchildren with me and we had the best time. The host was very helpful and responded very quickly to any questions that I had. The cabin was clean and had plenty of space for us plus some more. It was furnished with all the amenities that we needed. The grandkids enjoyed playing outside. I loved sitting on the front porch watching the horses. The grandkids literally did not want to leave to go anywhere. I definitely will be back and recommend this amazing place.

The cabin was perfect for a Christmas celebration. Charming and cozy for 6 adults and a couple of dogs this was a perfect spot to sip coffee on the front porch overlooking the horses in the meadow, and wind down by the bonfire in the back. Since it was a warm season, we took multiple hikes through the Pisgah forest to see several waterfalls and sit outside playing games. The kitchen had enough utensils to cook every night. You feel like you are miles away from town yet only 5 mins to the store. This was a perfect way to relax with family.

The cabin was well furnished and in a beautiful setting. The only negative thing I will add is the bathroom upstairs is far too cramped for most adults and the downstairs bathroom is too far from the downstairs bedroom. Otherwise, a fantastic rustic retreat!

What a wonderful cabin! Well appointed and easy to get to. Loved being in the forest. Super peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed sitting in the rockers on the porch just drinking some wine and watching the surroundings. Horses, deer, wild turkeys, squirrels both gray and white. The chill in the air and light snowfall made it magical. Wood burning fires at night in the fireplace- loved the smell! The cabin was conveniently located to everything we wanted to do & see: Hendersonville, Asheville, Brevard. Basically 30 minutes-ish to each. And no mountain or steep drive to contend with. Excellent!!

Extremely charming and cozy cabin. Very comfortable mattress, nice living room and nice size bedrooms. Cute space heaters that look like mini fireplaces. The forested and meadowed property is beautiful and well kept. Acres and acres to explore. Friendly horses in the pasture next to the cabin made the stay special. Super washer and dryer, new fridge and microwave. Great climate control AC/heat. Hosts are lovely people, very responsive and accommodating. A one of a kind experience. Highly recommended!

The place is a cozy cabin with breathtaking views. We were able to slip away from the responsibilities of life to relax on this private property with views for days and bonfires by night. We loved sitting on the front porch watching turkeys, horses, and the white squirrel! The strolls around the property with our dog were done with ease and highly enjoyable. We also enjoyed that it was only 10-15 minutes away from stream fishing, waterfalls and the quaint downtown of Brevard. Our host, Alicia, was great to work with, answering any questions we had and accommodated a needed change of date. We hope to come back. Highly recommend!

Overall, the cabin was lovely. We stayed a week as we tried to have some great secluded family time after the untimely passing of my brother- we were supposed to be visiting him at the time of the trip, but changed plans due to his passing. The property was clean and in a good location with things to do on and off the property. We really enjoyed fishing the pond and having camp fires. The kitchen had most of what we needed to make family meals. And the beds were comfortable. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because of the lack of privacy. We were staying up late to have family time/chats and got woken up several days at 0730 by people coming with trucks to grab equipment. They would return in the afternoons to put the equipment back. Plus the family was using the property for a few things while we were there. They were a truly kind family, but we wanted to tan outside or let our dogs out to run, and we didn’t feel comfortable doing certain things with visitors a few times a day.

We had a wonderful stay during our week of Spring Break. The property is absolutely gorgeous and is in a fantastic location. The view from the back porch swing is picturesque...horses trotting around the pond, turkeys cruising by in a line, white squirrels running through the yard, creek babbling nearby. Peaceful is the word I would use to best describe it.The cabin itself was well-stocked and clean. The master bed had a memory foam mattress and was extremely comfortable. Our teen daughters didn't have any problems sleeping.Internet was a little bit ponderous at times, but that's not why we were there...so no big deal to us! We didn't have any trouble watching a Netflix movie in the living room though.Brevard, Asheville, Hendersonville, Dupont, and Pisgah, are all within a relatively short drive. There are tons of things to do in the area. We would definitely return and we will certainly recommend this gorgeous property to our friends. Thank you very much to the owners for sharing your incredible property with us!

The cabin overall was nice but the listing stated that the upstairs had window units but I did not see any and it was hot upstairs. Also, the stink bugs were too much for me. I slept on the couch as they were bad upstairs. I understand that this is a cabin out in the woods but I was not prepared. The place was beautiful and peaceful and had everything that we needed for the night.

Our family stayed here for a week during the holidays, and it was just exactly what we were hoping for: a peaceful, relaxing getaway at a nice cabin in the mountains. The cabin had plenty of room for the four of us, and provided everything we needed to be comfortable. The surroundings are absolutely beautiful (even better than the photos), and it was so nice to wake up to that view each morning. The trail hikes were a great way to get out, get a little exercise, and soak up the scenery without having to leave the property. But the cabin is also conveniently located near Brevard, Hendersonville, and Asheville, as well as many great hiking opportunities in the area if you do want to venture off the property (which you may not want to!).The hosts were super responsive and helpful, and our stay was just perfect. We hope to return soon!

We are a Florida family of 8, 7 adults and 1 teen, staying at Pisgah Forest to attend the Jump Off Rock mountain wedding of another family member from Ohio. In spite of the hurricane issues, this property was beautiful and the quietness was so refreshing. The fire pit area was a favorite since we are a hot dog, smore's camping family. Location was excellent. Nestled into the woods of the mountain, it was secluded and quiet. B However, we were still 10 minutes from Brevard and able to quickly be in town. The cabin itself is adorable. Was able to watch every sunrise from the front porch and it was like looking at a puzzle. It was perfect. The beds are a little soft but overall we slept well. We did have to continually vacuum ladybugs before bed that would get into the cabin but nothing dangerous or too crazy. The toddler enjoyed catching them inside. The host was kind and answered all of our questions. Also quick to respond and we were never left hanging. The listing says there is a catch-and-release pond, but the only pond on the property had a sign designating it as a water fowl habit and no fishing was allowed. If we were staying longer, we would've asked for clarification, but didn't impact our trip this time. Overall, this was a great find and we would love to stay again the next time we're in Brevard. Hopefully for longer next time!

Easy access to Brevard, Asheville, and trails. We enjoyed our stay. The cabin had everything that we needed. The kitchen is well equipped. Although there are 3 bedrooms, the cabin is more suited for 2 couples, or 2 couples and children because of the layout of the upstairs. People in one bedroom have to go into the other bedroom in order to get to the bathroom. Also from the downstairs bedroom, one has to go through the kitchen and the living room to get to the bathroom. The owner was helpful and responsive.

Absolutely loved the cabin and the scenery! We loved just sitting on the back porch and looking out over the property. Honestly wished our stay was longer so we could venture out on the hiking trails that are on the property. Our kids enjoyed fishing at the pond and saying hello to the horses that roam the property. The cabin was so nice and charming. Just an overall great place to unwind and unplug. Would definitely come back!
