Hayward, Wisconsin
This is a retro style lakeside cabin built in the 1960’s. It has had continuous improvements over the years as the pictures show, but it is an old-fashioned up north cabin. It is cleaned after every visitor by a professional cleaning company and well maintained, but please do not book without looking at the pictures or reading the honest description and write critical review because it is not a modern hotel room or recently built cabin or on this lake, sometimes a mansion, that’s not fair.
Also, we take pride in accepting pets! This puts additional wear and other results in the cabin and outside. Again, we work hard to prepare for every visitor, but if you are pet adverse, we cannot promise you every hair on the inside or evidence of pet presence on the outside was discovered and removed.
Enjoy the seasons on the clear 3,000 acre Round Lake near Hayward, Wisconsin, in this traditional lakeside cabin hidden from the hustle of the main lake on quiet Filter’s Bay. Have the best of both worlds, the quiet sunsets from the deck 20 feet from the shore, or the adventure of the big lake. Paddle your canoe or kayak through the lily pads in this shallow no wake 50-acre bay watching for eagles, nesting loons, ospreys, otters, and great blue herons. Let the children catch sunfish from the dock, snorkel over the weed beds watching for bass and northern, or just relax next to the lake while watching cedar wax wings, blue birds, Indigo Buntings, Goldfinches, Hummingbirds, and other that call the north woods home come to the bird feeders.
In the evening, enjoy a steak on the deck and relax next to the water at the fire pit. Boat through the cut to the big lake and you can fish for Musky, Northern Pike, Small mouth Bass, Walleye, or panfish. If needed, hire a local guide to help unlock the secrets of this deep clear lake. Ski over the clean sky-blue water, or swim at the sandbar just outside of the bay. The Round Lake Marina offers ski boats, pontoon boats, and fishing boats for rent by the hour or day. At the north end of the lake, have a picnic or camp for the night on the state-owned island. We can provide canoes, kayaks, or a rowboat if you wish.
The Cabin is private, with the closest neighboring cabin being more than 100 yards away. The lake shore is in its natural state, we do not mow, paths lead where you need, and the rest is wild. There is one bedroom with a twin bed, a mud room with bunk beds, one bath (yes indoors), and a kitchen and a living area, where the futon and chair fold out for additional sleeping. This is the perfect spot for a couple or a family plus pets. There is a Washer and Dryer in the cabin, TV with Dish, Radio, and all you may need in the kitchen. This is our guest cabin also, so the amenities are geared towards making our friends and family comfortable and usually are more than found in standard private rentals.

We loved exploring Wisconsin from this private Cabin located on a cove directly on Round Lake! Could not have asked for better location!!! Owners were nearby and easily accessible for help and suggestions! Definitely recommend them
The cabin was nice, but the outside was not clean at all. The owners could have at least swept up. The tub and shower had spiders and daddy long legs crawling in it. I had to clean it before we could use it. Overall, we liked the place and having a boat ramp on the property was key to our booking.
If you enjoy seclusion, wildlife, and life on the water, this cabin is a MUST. The cabin itself is adorable. It is small, quaint, and has all of the essentials. This year the bathroom was updated, and I believe they got a new mattress in the master bedroom as well. All of the beds are super comfortable, and the AC unit worked great on the days that we needed it! The cabin is within a few yards from the water and one of the docks, which gives the large window in the front room a GORGEOUS view. This cabin is super pet friendly, and Mark, the host, is absolutely wonderful to work with. This cabin has a total of two docks which we caught multiple fish off of, and it’s own boat ramp that you can either launch your own boat from, or use one of the kayaks or john boats that Mark provides. The overall location is just 15 or so minutes from Hayward where you can find everything that you might need along with plenty of activities to explore. We are already planning our trip for next year!
Charming and cozy cabin in the woods which made me nostalgic for the Hayward fishing cabins of the 70s and 80s (but with Wi-fi!). The owners were super easy to work with and everything was provided for a pleasant stay. The bay is very secluded and quiet and full of Northern Pike, Largemouth Bass and Panfish, and Big Round Lake is a quick and easy paddle/motor away for those looking for bigger fish to fry. Cabin is just steps from the water with handy boat launch right beside. Canoes, kayaks and rowboat provided and pets welcome. You can't go wrong! Thanks Mark and Kathy!
We drove 450 miles to go fishing. We thought we would be fishing on Round Lake, but the property was on a small body of water leading to Round Lake. The name of the place was Round Lake Retreat. It came with a fishing boat and use of canoes and paddleboat. The promised aluminum boat was filthy, had no apparent drain plug and a decaying animal with protruding teeth was stuck to the inside. Under the boat was a paddleboat filled with murky liquid in which several bloated dead rats were floating. The canoes were too dirty to use as is. The pier was unstable. The Marina was closed on Sunday. We called on Monday but no boats were rentable until Thursday. Inside the cabin the kitchen appliances and cabinets were covered in a greasy film which I had to clean before using. The non-stick coating on the pots and pans was peeling and degraded rendering them unusable. When I reached up to get a plate off a shelf my hand stuck to a glue trap. I did find a dirty enameled pan which I was able to scrub clean and use for boiling water to sanitize the dishes and silverware. First towel we took was stained with brown marks so we had to wash and dry several towels before use. The washer/dryer was in working order. Two “grills” were advertised, but they were teeny tiny and placed dangerously atop a wooden table on the wooden deck, so we didn’t use them. We cooked over the fire pit but had to purchase wood since the wood provided was wet. All three of our adult kids drove up separately from Chicago expecting a fishing experience. Our oldest stayed in the Holiday Inn Express in Hayward Sunday thru Wednesday with his wife and baby, and was hoping to spend some time fishing with his dad. The other two stayed at the cabin for a few days and also expected to fish, but lost their enthusiasm after seeing the condition of the boat and turning over the boat and finding the rats. Our host expected us to get the boat clean and ready ourselves, find oars and a drain plug and figure out how to attach it to the unstable pier. Beds were comfy.
Rustic cabin with a great view of a beautiful bay .Private setting with boat launch If you are going to freak out over a cobweb or rust stain in the bathtub this might not be the place for you .My two sons and I thought it was a perfect little getaway to enjoy some fishing Owners were very friendly and nearby to help with any issues .
This property was great for fishing. The cabin is offset from the main lake offering much more privacy and fishing in the bay was great on windier days. Mark the Owner was always responsive and near by if we needed anything. Cabin was stocked well and cozy. Loved how we had much privacy in the bay and not right next to other cabins. Upon arrival we did need to clean the deck and rearrange a few things as well as removing some low hanging branches for the sake of the fires we had outside and the boat launch although close by was tricky with the trees etc…. However it was in June and the pollen and natures sheddings would require constant cleaning which of course cannot be expected…. Overall we had a great time!!! Great fishing!!!!
Everything was good, but the shower needs upgrading. Other than that, it was fine. The owners were very welcoming.
It's a nice older cabin that is perfect for a retreat and solitude.
