Mentone, Alabama
One Oar Missing sits directly on Little River, in the deepest, widest portion known as Lake Lahusage. A boardwalk down to the rivers edge makes it an easy walk down to the floating dock and kayaks. Double decks, one on each side of the sunroom give you plenty of space for cooking on the charcoal grill and to enjoy an outdoor meal when weather permits. Rainy days call for lounging in the sunroom! A large wood burning fireplace makes it the place to be almost any time of year. When one fireplace is not enough, there's a second wood burning fireplace in the open floor plan living/kitchen area. A large kitchen island gives you plenty of space for cooking, playing games and making memories. A split bedroom design offers three bedrooms with ensuite main bedroom and two additional bedrooms with jack-n-jill bathroom with two sink areas.
Mentone offers artist's & antique shops and restaurants. Nearby activities include golf, DeSoto State Park, Little River Canyon National Preserve, Cloudland Canyon, camping, hiking along rivers & waterfalls. Check out our website for additional local info.
We're so happy we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving at One Oar Missing. The views and the cabin itself were phenomenal. The sunroom, although cold, still provided a wonderful experience with the large wood-burning fireplace. I loved the decorations and small touches that added to the aesthetic and experience. The weather was too cold to spend time in the water, but we took advantage of the National parks and hiking trails at Little River Canyon Preserve and Desoto Falls. Mentone has captured our hearts, and we've already started planning future visits. We hope to one day own a home here. Until that day arrives, we will continue to stay in the homes managed by Delightful Retreats.
The fireplaces were spectacular! We enjoyed fires both indoor and outdoor during our stay. The cabin was very spacious with plenty of room. The location was great, giving us ample opportunity to explore the nature around us as well as visit nearby towns. We will be back!
My family absolutely loved One Oar Missing! The layout is awesome and allows for adults to have their private space rather than a loft area. We were pleasantly surprised to see the stack of firewood available to use. The two fireplaces were quiet impressive and the outdoor living area was the perfect place to enjoy the fall breeze and beautiful views. This cabin had a fully stocked kitchen which included items we didn't think we would need (like the crockpot and hand mixer). There is plenty of seating indoors and out! We do hope to spend more family time here in the future!
Very nice
We had a fabulous time! Fished off the dock, kayaked, cooked lots of food in the roomy kitchen. Watched some football. Wonderful place!
We had a wonderful stay at One Oar Missing! We loved hanging out on the screened porch, it seemed like being in a large treehouse with all of the trees outside the windows and the relaxing sounds of nature. The dock was a favorite for us in the late afternoons, we enjoyed fishing and the peaceful views. The kayaks were a fun addition to our trip and provided entertainment and exercise. We absolutely loved our stay and enjoyed being able to have our dogs with us on our trip. We’d love to stay at the One Oar Missing again in the future!
Clean, comfy, peaceful, and scenic. We had a perfect weekend enjoying the porch, dock, and kayaks.
The house was very peaceful and quiet. The place was very clean. The beds were comfortable. The screened-in porch was very welcoming. We did take the kayaks out and was surprised that the lake didn't have much water traffic on it, which was very good for the beginners in our group.
The cabin, you walk through the front door to an open and inviting kitchen/ living space. A beautiful floor to ceiling stone wood burning fireplace draws your attention. It is just begging for you to build a quaint fire and sit on the relaxing sofa sipping your favorite drink. Then you walk outside to an amazing screened in back porch that is pretty much a reflection of the living space with its own stone fireplace and lakeside views. There are also two open decks to sit and enjoy the lake view. There is a kettle charcoal grill for you to grill up some burgers or steaks. When you get tired from a long day on the water or hiking in the state parks, there is plenty of room for you and your family or friends to get cleaned up in the two bathrooms and then relax in the three bed rooms. We brought our kayaks with the plan to spend a fair amount of time on the water, and to my surprise they had two kayaks available for use on the lake. We spent two days on the water and explored Lake Lahusage as far as we could in kayaks. There are many activities and shops nearby to keep your attention as well. But I will say if you are looking for a peaceful time, the water is the place to be. In the two days we were on the water, we only had a few encounters with other boats. It was pretty close to having an entire lake to ourselves. Put your phones away, cell service isn’t great(but there is WiFi) and enjoy the outdoors and the peacefulness of it all. One Oar Missing is on our return visit list.
Great location on the widest part of the river. Kids enjoyed kayaking and caught bluegill and bass right from the dock. Would definitely return!
Loved this cabin! Plenty of room for everyone! The screened in porch/sunroom was so nice and we spent a lot of time there! Kayaks were fun. A bit too chilly for swimming due to unseasonably cooler weather. Great for sitting on the dock with our feet in the water! Cabin was very clean and well supplied. Beds and pillows very comfortable!
Loved the house. It was probably the cleanest house I have ever stayed in. We enjoyed the huge porch with the fireplace and sitting on the dock by the lake. There are houses close by, but we were fortunate that for the most part we had the lake to ourselves. The house was exactly as advertised. We didn't make use of the kayaks because the snake my wife saw under the dock. Still we would definitely stay at the house and would book with Delightful Retreats again.
It was easy and secure
It was the perfect place for our family weekend stay. We enjoyed the house, kayaks the river right outside. And Mentone is such a charming area.
My family of 4 spent the recent holiday weekend at this DELIGHTFUL waterfront home. We very much enjoyed the tranquility of the water just steps away, and the coziness of the TWO wood burning fireplaces. A short drive to The Brow, popular dining venues, and shopping, you can also enjoy nearby Desoto Falls. Great communication with the owner, who thoughtfully provided amenities to help us feel at home. Want to go back!
