Buena Vista, Colorado
Remote yet easily accessible, this is a perfect year round retreat. Originally built in 1885, every surface has been restored and upgraded, including exposed logs, bronze counters and custom tile work.
The historic cabin is about 500 square feet and has an open floor plan. There's a comfy queen size bed with all the sheets, pillows and blankets you'll need. The kitchen, although small, is fully stocked with cookware and everything you'll want but the food. There's a small fridge and freezer, stove and oven. In the winter, you'll find the cabin stocked with firewood and kindling, and there's also electric baseboard heat. The cabin has Wi-Fi internet and cell phones get excellent reception. There's a flat screen TV with HDMI, a DVD player, and DVD library for your enjoyment. You'll also find some board gamesl and cards in a dresser drawer. Time and again guests say the bathroom is their favorite room, with an antique ash bucket converted into a sink, and unique details throughout.
For those not familiar with the historic town of Twin Lakes, it is nestled along Hwy 82 which continues over Independence Pass and into Aspen (about 40 miles) in the summer. The drive is so spectacular that it has been listed in the book "1,000 Places to See Before You Die". The activity of the summer months ends from November- May, when the Pass closes along with the local shops and Inns. Year round you'll be 20 miles (in opposite directions) from both Buena Vista (you'll love Cottonwood Hot Springs, river rafting and Eddyline- the local brewery and gourmet pizzeria) and Leadville (ski at Cooper, ride the train and go antiquing). Or maybe best of all, you can stay put and enjoy endless outdoor activities on the lake, or on hiking, skiing, snow shoe and biking trails. The Leadville 100 even puts a station outside our front gate!
This is our 3rd time visiting and will do it again. Peaceful and serine. The mountains are breathtaking.
Can’t express enough how perfect this cabin is. Best location, has everything you need, and Walter is the best guy ever! We were in town for the Leadville 100 and it was the perfect place to have for the 8+ hrs the crew spent in town for the out and back section. And the movie library!!! Thank you so much!!!!
We spent 12 day there did a lot of hiking with the pup not a bad view anywhere. Will be going back Thanks Walter
Perfect cabin, perfect location, amazing host!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and loved the charming cabin. Perfect place for an anniversary getaway.
Very nice. Excellent host communication. Excellent choice for a vacation stay.
My husband and I were looking for a cabin with a fireplace or wood burning stove off the beaten winter path and we found it here. We’ve camped at Twin Lakes for years, but never been in winter. We loved hiking the gorgeous lower Mt. Elbert trail & didn’t need snowshoes as we thought we might since it was packed snow. It was perfect to then return to our cute, comfy & cozy log cabin. Although small, it had all we needed and the 2 comfortable recliners were awesome!!! And the DVD player & movies provided night time relaxation. Will definitely visit this cabin again!
The best place in a beautiful location with everything you need!
Such a peaceful cabin. Cozy and warm. It was a great getaway with beautiful scenery in the winter. Property manager was great with great communication. Would definitely rent this cabin again! Thanks Walt!
The cabin was quite cozy! We were traveling for the first time with our 2 big dogs and they enjoyed lying on the floor near the woodstove on the very chilly nights!
Quaint little cabin with lots of opportunities to unplug. Hubby and I enjoyed the feeling of leaving the busyness of the city while still knowing people are close by. Twin Lakes has trails and plenty of places to fish. The owners of the general store were super friendly and helpful. We hope to visit again. Maybe we’ll try the summer next time.
Great area to stay!
This is a charming cabin in an authentic old mining town. Mountains all around. Peace. Quiet. Isolation. Attentive manager.
This cabin was a good value for the location and price. We loved that it is located right in Twin Lakes with easy walking distance to the general store, food trucks, and visitor center. The property is just as described in the listing and the owners were very responsive. The cabin had all the essentials and some extras. The area is somewhat of a wetland, so the mosquitoes and flies were quite numerous during our stay. We were not able to open the door or windows because there are no screens, so it does get a little stuffy inside in the summer. Thanks Walter and Jessica!
Beautiful property! Very gracious Hosts!
Comfortable and quiet location near the downtown area of Twin Lakes. Has a kitchen with stove, fridge/freezer, and microwave. Would sleep 2.
This historic cabin has been renovated beautifully! We have stayed at a lot of places, and have never seen a place with this much attention to detail. Everything is nice quality, from the appliances in the kitchen (no garage-sale shopping to stock this kitchen!) to the wonderful details in the bathroom. The bed was comfy, the recliner chairs were nice to have for relaxing, black-out curtains if you want a little extra sleep time. . Walter and Jessica were great hosts. We will certainly be coming back!
Set in the small town of Twin Lakes, this historic cabin was cozy and comfortable. It includes all you need for a wonderful getaway. The hosts were gracious and informative. We would absolutely book again.
