Waters Edge is a luxurious, recently built (finished July '07) custom built log cabin on the shore of beautiful, sparkling Watauga Lake. With 106 miles of shoreline and fabulous coves and islands to explore, use the canoe and kayak provided or bring your own boat and keep it at your very own private dock that comes with the cabin. Rental boats are also available at Fish Springs Marina, with a $10.00 discount for guests of Waters Edge.

If you have to stay in touch with the office, don't fret. Hook up to the wireless network high speed internet, plus make unlimited long distance calls within the continental U.S.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES GALORE!!!: There are plenty of activities close by including horseback riding, biking, mountain biking, white water rafting, snow skiing and tubing, sledding, ice skating, hiking (including the Appalachian Trail just 15 minutes away), fishing, golfing, shopping/strolling in Boone/Blowing Rock, or sightseeing and other activities at many outdoor parks anywhere from 10 minutes to 45-60 minutes away. Grandfather Mountain, Chimney Rock and the Blue Ridge Parkway are a few of the more well known destinations, but there are plenty more to be discovered. Bring your bikes and ride on Sink Valley Road right in front of Waters Edge, or transport them to biking trails in the area, including one near the Mast General Store outside of Boone, North Carolina and the Virginia Creeper Trail out of Abbingdon, Virginia to the north. And if none of that interests you, just sit back on one of the four decks and take in the beautiful scenery of the lake and mountains. Or turn on your favorite music on the outside speakers.

NOT SO OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: For those who are not into outdoor activities, there are plenty of other activities. The Butler Museum tells the story of Butler, The Town that Wouldn't Drown! The town used to be at what is now the bottom of Watauga Lake. Old structures, signs and roads are explored by avid scuba divers. In Boone, NC near Appalachian State University and in Blowing Rock, NC, there are plenty of shops with arts, pottery, clothing and collectibles. There are also quite a few excellent restaurants. For bigger city shoppers, Johnson City, TN is not far away. Before you get to Johnson City is Elizabethton which has its own set of smaller town shops, restaurants and even an oldies car show downtown on the weekend nights in the warmer months and a drive-in movie theater!

YOUR VACATION ESCAPE: Escape to Waters Edge for a true retreat in the mountains of Tennessee and nearby North Carolina! The lake and national forest are at your doorstep. This lake home is truly waterfront with its own dock in the backyard. Bring your own boat or rent one nearby. Keep it at the dock which is just steps from the cabin down a winding sidewalk. Join our group of guests who say Waters Edge is the best cabin on Watauga Lake, and keep comin' back!

Fall colors abound around Waters Edge and in the vicinity. Panoramic views are found in any direction you drive.

During the winter, there are 4 ski slopes within a 40 to 50-minute drive. Enjoy the challenge and bustle of the slopes during the day, then escape to your own private mountain lake home. You will easily be able to unwind and relax in front of the home theater system, stone fireplace, Jacuzzi, or fire ring by the lake.

The calendar fills up quickly and well in advance. Make your reservation today and come escape and relax at WATERS EDGE!!!

Host communication is punctual. Home is beautiful, however with the checkout requirements and host fees (200) for “house cleaning” is overpriced.

The cabin was great for our family! The views were breathtaking. We loved the canoe and kayaks. The cabin was well stocked with supplies. It was very clean and had lots of room for grown children to enjoy family time. We cooked all our meals. The kitchen was nice and so was the grill. Also, lots of seating outside.

We rented this Mtn Cabin for a family gathering of 6 adults and 6 children. It worked great. Large living room on the main floor with a large loft overlooking the main floor and a family room downstairs with a pool table.

Cabin was just as advertised. Great for 3 couples and 1 child. Each couple had their own floor so it gave us lots of space. AC worked great. Thoroughly enjoyed the quiet remoteness's of this home. The fire pit and dock are so relaxing. Don’t let the steps frighten you. It is a climb but certainly doable. I would advise arriving before dark. Navigating the last couple roadways takes some getting used to. We will certainly consider returning again!

House is beautiful and view of lake is exceptional. Lake still has wood floating around from the Hurricane. We had a lot of rain during our stay but was still able to spend time out on our boats. Only complaint is the house is in desperate need of a deep cleaning. Lots of dust and debris on floors and window seals. Would stay again if cleaned better. Thanks for sharing your home with us, we really enjoyed the beauty..

We had a fantastic stay at the cabin, the entire trip we all remarked how beautiful the view was and how nice the cabin felt. Everything was well stocked, clean, and had clear instructions. We grilled out every night and there were plenty of places to hang out throughout the property. Would definitely stay again!

The cabin was beautiful BUT it hadn’t been swept or mopped in a long time. Before our guest came to stay I had to vaccum and sweep-mop.. a dirty diaper under the guest bed, razor container as well. Several light fixtures did not work-exhaust fan in the master bathroom was so loud and jacuzzi wouldn’t work until my husband had to push the button so hard for it to start. Heat did not work downstairs it was 58 degrees so our guest had to use the electric heaters. Fan outside was broken and pieces were left on the chair which we didn’t use it but it was still junky. Toilet in master wasn’t working and the maintenance had to come fix it. Holes were in inseam of couches which wasn’t a big deal but again this was a special occasion. We reached out to the owner to ask him if he could give us the pin so we could watch tv and have some music on and his response was he didn’t hce one. So that was a bit disappointing since we were playing cards and wanted a little music but we didn’t let it ruin anything. The fact of letters stuck on walls everywhere was.a bit annoying since we are adults and we do know how to flush the toilet etc.. in the laundry room there is a door that states if u touch it alarms will be turned on.The remotes do not work ! I also felt a bit uncomfortable with the fact there was rat poison in the closets sprinkled everywhere .The walk way to the lake was very dangerous. The rails were so short in height u had to bend to reach. I was a bit disappointed

This is an excellent place to stay, and it is in all respects what it is advertised to be. The property suffers somewhat from a lack of regular attention -- although this may be because it was the off season. Most of the accoutrements are what you would expect from a mid-range, budget-conscious place to stay, while others (including the pool table and the boats) clearly are more in the luxury stay category. In particular it should be noted that the HVAC system is in excellent repair and is perfectly suited to a residence this large. This is not a trivial matter and should not be discounted.

Great place in a stunning location! Loved kayaking, fishing, and just relaxing with old friends. House and amenities were as described and host was very responsive. Likely due to nearby post disaster work, Internet went out a couple of times and power went out briefly. Remote location with no cell service from most carriers. However, TMobile had a strong signal, so we were able to stream football games via hot spot! We will definitely look to book this home again in the future.

Great property - perfect for a long weekend on the lake. Would go back. The big plus/minus is Butler is pretty remote. Not too far from Johnson City or Boone, but it will take some time if you are planning to include those places in your itenary. We watched football - played in the lake all weekend and it was fabulous!

We have stayed here before, and it suits our family perfect. Three levels so there is plenty of room to spread out. Two refrigerators will make your day much easier to manage. The cove does not have a current like a lot of them. Swimming off the dock is perfect even with a 25ft pontoon boat attached. We will be back next year!

The property was beautiful and right on the end of a quiet inlet on Wattauga Lake as described. My husband and I took 90 year old (but mobile) grandma, and son's family with our 4 year-old granddaughter. The very steep and multiple steps did prove challenging for my mom, so keep that in mind when booking. The main floor great room was beautiful with a wellstocked kitchen and comfortable furniture. My son and his family really enjoyed the kingsize bed in the master bedroom. However, the Queen bedroom located off the loft has no bathroom on that floor, and it stayed quite warm up there while we visited, so my husband and I wound up sleeping in the twin beds in the lower level while my 90 year old mom slept in the other lower level bedroom. The floating dock is wonderful and we were able to bring our boat from a nearby free boatlaunch. Swimming off the dock was lovely. The provided canoe and kayaks were fun, but one of the sit inside kayaks had a small split in the bottom of the bow, and the sit-on-top kayak was missing a stopper-- which allowed water to get inside. Hopefully these issues will have been fixed by the host, but check before launching. Overall, we had a wonderful time and the area has lots of outdoor fun things to do.
