Welcome to Lake Chateau in Luray near the Shenandoah National Park

Our cabin is located in Luray -- less than a 30-minute drive from the Shenandoah National Park's Thornton Gap entrance. You can escape the city's hustle and bustle and enjoy the lake view from the double decks (NO lake access). Four lounges on our upper deck that are perfect for sunbathing or stargazing, and a dining set with an umbrella to accommodate your outdoor lunch/dinner with a view. On the lower deck, we have ahot tub for your soaking, and a lounge area to kick back or play cornhole. We also have a fire pit with 4 Adirondack chairs, a park-style grill, and a picnic table in the front yard for you to enjoy (please bring your own firewood and charcoals). If you see a medium-sized dog with black and white fur, she is Aggie--a super friendly dog my next-door neighbor owns. She wants to say hi to everyone she sees. No need to be alarmed because she is harmless. If you do not feel like interacting, just ignore her.

Inside the house, we have two bedrooms—one with a king-size bed, and the other with two twin-size beds. These two bedrooms accommodate 4 adults very comfortably. We have a full bathroom with a tub. We have a full-sized kitchen with a dining area. In the living room, you may stream your favorite shows or movies on the smart Roku TV (with your own subscription log-in) while enjoying the warmth from the fireplace with a remote click. The house has a central air system, a stacked washer and dryer, a microwave, a range oven, a dishwasher, and a refrigerator. We offer a Keurig coffee maker with both dripping and K-cup choices as well as a French press.

In the basement, we have a game room with a shuffleboard, a foosball, a cocktail arcade game console with 412 games, Tic-Tac-Toe, and a cornhole in a bag. We also have chess, monopoly, Jenga, and Uno on the middle shelf of the coffee table in the living room (main floor). You will never be bored staying in our cabin even if your outdoor activities get spoiled by adverse weather conditions.

ROAD CONDITIONS—We are located on a dirt/gravel road 600 feet from the paved road. AWD/4WD and high-clearance vehicles are strongly recommended (it is required during and after a snowfall to ensure your safety). There are some bumpy sections in the first 200 feet, please drive very slowly (under 5 mph) to avoid damaging your vehicles.

WATER—We are on a community well system. Although we already installed a water softener and a water filtration system, the water may still smell occasionally. We also installed a reverse osmosis filtration system under the kitchen sink to provide water safe for drinking.

INTERNET—We use Starlink satellites for our Internet connections. Although it is reasonably fast, the speeds cannot compare to cable or fiber broadband speeds. Please be patient if you experience slow-down or buffering.

HOT TUB—Clear water is a scarce commodity in this area. We need to truck in clear water because the well water has discoloration issues. To reduce excessive use of chemicals, please make sure you shower before entering the tub. Keep the hot tub covered and running while not in use. You may adjust the temperature (control panel at the end of the cover lift). When you enter the hot tub, please flip half of the cover (from the deck center towards the back door) and rock the cover lift backward towards the back door. After your use, please lower the lift, and cover the tub with the lid so leaves and debris won’t get into the tub. An additional $150 will be charged for full drainage and refill of the spring water if food or drink is present in the tub. When you check out, please set it no lower than 95 degrees. The water may reflect some yellow/green hues because of the iron in the water as well as pollens getting in from the air. But please rest assured that we service and balance the water during each turn. If we drain and refill the water in the hot tub on the day you check in, you may have to wait until the next morning to enjoy it because the water may not reach the desired temperature on the same day.

FIRE PIT & GRILL--We have a fire pit and a park-style grill in the front year. Please bring your own charcoal and firewood if you plan on using the grill and the fire pit. For fire safety, please do NOT leave any open fire unattended. After each use, please extinguish the fire using the water hose in front of the house and clean up after your use. During the wintertime, please DETACH the water hose from the spigot after use to prevent freeze damage.

PET POLICY—Only dogs are considered. No other animals are allowed without the host's prior approval. Up to two dogs (under 50 pounds) that are vaccinated and ticks & flea-free are allowed and are subject to a pet fee of $79. Dogs are not allowed on any furniture or in the hot tub. Do not leave your dogs alone on the property. Please let us know if your dogs are traveling with you in advance. To prevent incidents, we will prepare a sofa cover for you to use. We may charge for any extra cleaning, pest control, and/or damages caused by your dogs. Any unauthorized pet(s) found in or about the Rental Property will be grounds for expedited eviction and forfeiture of all monies paid. Guests are responsible for any cleaning charges, pest control costs, and damages caused by their unauthorized pets.

TROUT LAKE—We are right next to a private Trout Lake owned by our next-door neighbor. Because the lake is privately owned, unfortunately, our guests cannot access the lake. The lake view, however, is priceless in our humble opinion!

PARKING—We have a designated parking lot that can fit two cars back-to-back (first car pulls up close to the lower end).

GARBAGES—Please keep all your trash inside. Do not leave any food outside that may attract the wildlife. You might spot some animal activities (including black bears) in this area. For any excess trash you need to dispose of before checking out, please bring it to the dumpster at the back of Shenandoah River Outfitters.

VIDEO SURVEILLANCE--There are three exterior cameras (two flood light cameras at the front side of the cabin and one doorbell camera at the front door) monitoring and recording all exterior entries, exits, and movements at the front side of the property for security purposes. They are on 24/7, but only record video and audio when there are movements (motion detected and activated around the clock-24/7). Videos may be stored for 1-365 days for security or house-rule breach review. There is no other surveillance inside or at the back side of the cabin.

SMOKE-FREE PROPERTY--Guests are prohibited from smoking cigarettes, e-cigarettes, marijuana, or using any illicit drugs at the premises (including both inside the cabin and on the ground). Any violation will result in a $1,000 fine and immediate termination of your stay with no refund.

NO PARTY RULE--We do not allow guests to use the cabin for any type of party. Quiet time is between 9 PM and 9 AM. Noise complaints reported by neighbors are the grounds for immediate termination of your stay with no refund.

CLEANING FEE--The cleaning fee only includes the basic cleaning of the house. Please make every effort to leave the house as you found it (plus normal wear and tear). We will charge you an additional cleaning fee ($50/hr) for any of the following:
• Grill cleaning
• Stained towels, bedsheets, bed and duvet covers, walls, furniture, or other items
• Garbage pickup (garbage that is outside the trash can or trash bag)
• Liquid or food spills
• Used pots, pans, kitchenware, utensils, and kitchen supplies not loaded in the dishwasher
• Any additional cleaning or treatment that delays the normal turnover of the house

Although we really enjoyed our stay in the area and the host was very responsive and great to work with, the overall cleanliness and condition of the property didn’t match expectations for the price. When we arrived, we had to rewash most of the dishes, cookware, and utensils before using them. The dryer also had a heavy lint buildup, the king bed sheets had visible streaks and stains, and there was a bit of dirt in the hot tub. These are things we did mention to the host and let them know weren’t a big deal for us to handle ourselves we just didn’t want to spend time during our vacation waiting for someone to come out but they’re still things that should have been taken care of before arrival. The exterior also didn’t match the listing photos. The outdoor furniture and porch are pretty weathered and give a different first impression than what’s shown online. There’s definitely potential here, and we did enjoy our stay overall, but it needs better attention to cleaning and more accurate photos. As it is now, it just doesn’t really justify the price.

The host is great. Unfortunately, the location and furniture are not. Going uphill on the unpaved road to get here was a nightmare, even in a huge suv. It's full of uneven lumps, holes & ditches. Once you're up, you don't want to go back down or up again, especially when it rains. The bathroom water, toilet & fridge water are brown. Couldn't shower here. The sofa is awful. Small 3 seater, hard leather. Doesn't fit 2 people laying down to watch tv so it was very uncomfortable & not cozy at all. The bed is hard, really hard to sleep on & the pillows are flat. There’s nothing romantic about this get away. I don't recommend this for couples, maybe just a single man in a truck. The worst part is the kitchen curtain that doesn't close all the way down, you can see everything in the house from the outside. The neighbor walking the dog off the leash is really annoying too because it will drive your own dog nuts. Very sad & disappointed to have spent 1200 here. Would not come back to this location as a couple or a single woman.

Overall Experience: Our stay at the Lake House Chateau was mostly pleasant. The space was clean upon arrival, and the listing’s description and photos were accurate, which we appreciated. The chateau matched our expectations with only one major exception. The Hot Tub Issue: Unfortunately, the hot tub was a major disappointment and impacted our experience. The water was green with a layer of scum on the sides, as shown in our photos. This was especially frustrating since the hot tub was a key reason we chose this location. We felt let down by its condition and could not use it during our stay.Host Response: We notified the host, who responded quickly: “I’m very sorry about the hot tub. We had to top it off with well water, which has many minerals that react with the chemicals. If you run the jets for about 20 mins, that will help. The hot tub was treated prior to your arrival.” We appreciated the explanation, but the suggested solution did not resolve the issue, and the difference in water color from the listing photos was shocking. We also didn’t notice any chlorine that should keep the hot tub clean.Summary: While the Lake House Chateau is clean and accurately represented, the unusable hot tub was a major letdown. Future guests who prioritize a hot tub experience should confirm its condition before booking. Otherwise, the property is as described and maintained to a good standard.

The hottub should be cleaned thoroughly before guest arrive not green. The dirt road leading to cabin was in terrible condition and would prevent me from booking this home again. And a dresser in the bedrooms would be a nice addition.

The cabin had not been cleaned when we arrived. We contacted Cher and she sent someone over to take care of it, but we had to wait for that to be done before we could settle in. The cabin was beautiful inside and looked just as it did on the website; however, the upper deck needs some attention. There are multiple loose nails sticking up. The table on the deck is not really conducive for outside weather and so the boards are pealing and warping. The solar lights along the sidewalk were all falling over. The internet was great as was the ease of using our subscription for TV service. We had great fun in the game room. We did enjoy our stay.

Everything was as described and the owners seem to have thought of just about everything! Only very minor feedback is that the bed was not the most comfortable and the water smelled strongly of sulfur. It would be nice to have an outdoor trash receptacle to put full bags of trash, and a shovel to empty out old wet ash from the fire pit. Again, minor feedback to an enjoyable getaway!

Overall a great place with everything you need. The king bed was very comfortable. The wifi worked great (and we used a VPN). You could tell the house was recently remodeled. And the communication was exceptional. Cher sent us check-in instructions and listed everthing the house offered, including how the house was stocked with all the amenities, towels, salt/pepper/spices, coffee, cooking oils, aluminum foil, seran wrap etc. As for potential improvements to make the stay better, we'd recommend more dishware as there was only a 6-piece starter set of plates, bowls, and silverware. Some of the deck nails are popping up which could hurt feet or a dog's feet. Adding a few end tables for the living room couch and adding shelves to the master closet to store clothes. But those were all minor things. Side note - Cooper and Augie (Cooper is Augie's owner) were the perfect neighbors. We chatted briefly on their morning and evening walks and Cooper proved to be a great local resource for things to do, including a breath-taking mountain-top lookout not far away, and a pathway to a private lake and river spot within walking distance.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this lovely cabin. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed with how clean and well-maintained everything was. The cabin was fully stocked with everything we could have possibly needed, which made our trip completely stress-free.Our girls were thrilled with the game room, and we all enjoyed making memories while roasting marshmallows at the fire pit. The back porch was the perfect spot for a morning coffee and some quiet relaxation. We didn't have a chance to use the hot tub on this visit, but that just gives us another reason to come back. We are already looking forward to our next stay!

We had a wonderful stay at Lake Chateau! The property was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a relaxing retreat. One of the highlights was the game room—my daughter and her friend had a blast spending time in there. The location was perfect for mini-adventures. We explored Luray Caverns, cruised along Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, and spent some peaceful time playing by the Shenandoah River. It was the ideal mix of relaxation and exploration.Overall, I’d definitely recommend Lake Chateau to anyone looking for a break from the craziness of everyday life. It’s a great spot to recharge and enjoy nature with loved ones!

We wanted to stay somewhere we could go hiking and see Shenandoah. The location was great but also a little far from the park. That’s on us - we probably should have looked at how far the actual hiking trails would be from the cabin but aside from that the cabin was perfect. Very clean, organized and very private. The hosts were prompt with answering any questions I had and checking in/out was simple. Would definitely recommend staying again.

This is a beautiful house and the host was so great! My stress level has been off the charts and a long weekend in this house helped me unplug and unwind. The host was so quick answering all my questions including giving us a great hike recommendation in Shanendoah National Park. The information provided was extremely thorough and accurate. I highly recommend!

This place was perfect for our Anniversary. We stayed 3 nights and had a blast. Everything was so clean, comfortable, and the hot tub was wonderful. The game room was so fun and all games were working and in complete order. The fire pit set up is well thought out too. You definitely want a strong vehicle to get there but the write up is clear and our jeep we rented doubled as our fun day going off 4 wheeling. We Highly recommend this place!!

My family is not able to get away often, but we desperately needed a few days away. Our son suffers from a chronic health issue that can take him down without warning, so we wanted a place that was quiet and comfortable to just hang out in of we couldn't get out and explore the local area. Lake Chateau was a wonderful place to just hangout, smell the fresh air, and be relaxed. Cher is a lovely host and is easy to communicate with. I highly recommend Lake Chateau if you are looking for a nice place to get away.
