Joshua Tree, California
Come enjoy the expansive space of the beautiful Mojave Desert at Rattler Ranch, one of the original lodging options for Joshua Tree (operating for 14 years now). The 2 bungalows for rent are situated on 5 acres (along with owner's house). A short 5-8 minute drive from the west entrance to Joshua Tree National Park.
These two bungalows (La Casita & Mustang) are fully furnished and are known for their quiet and privacy.
La Casita has one bedroom with a queen bed, sitting room with a twin daybed, dining/sitting room with a queen sofa bed, wood burning stove, full kitchen, full bathroom, and fully fenced outdoor patio, with table, chairs, and barbecue grill.
Rattler Ranch is beautifully landscaped with ocotillo, palm trees, cactus, desert willows, elms, sycamores, smoke trees, desert pines, and many other desert plants.
There is also a shared outdoor sitting area with a table and two chaise lounge chairs
From Rattler Ranch, you can hike directly into Joshua Tree National Park on a trail 1 mile down the dirt road. The property abounds with wildlife - jackrabbits and cottontails, roadrunners, desert tortoises, coyotes, lizards, and dozens of quails that spend their nights roosting in the palm trees.
Joshua Tree National Park is nearby (2 miles to the Visitor's Center), for rock climbing, hiking, and touring. The town of Joshua Tree has several eating establishments, a health food store, visitor's center for the Park, outdoor equipment & climbing suppliers, art galleries, a saloon, and gift shops.
In the nearby town of Yucca Valley you will find a cinema, more restaurants, and antique shopping. Also worth visiting is historic old west Pioneertown, and Pappy and Harriet's Saloon, for fine barbecue eating, and great live music.
We loved the location and enjoyed the nice patio. Except the Barbecue that was full of ashes and a hose scattered about. I think they usually have guests that stay a couple of days and eat out. There are issues with clients with mobility issues. There isn't a grab bar on the raised bathtub and there are large throw rugs. The kitchen wasn't easy to use with the microwave on top of the refrigerator and only a small counter where you have to keep your food. The day bed was not supplied with the proper sized bedding even after we requested bedding. We don't really know what service they provided, but we got clean towels. We think the managers can think more about these items be considered more carefully so that guests can feel that they are important. Thank you. Barbara Fournier
