Big Bay, Michigan
Magnificent sunsets over Lake Superior's Big Bay. Our winter guests (snowmobilers, cross-country skiers, snow-shoers, and those looking to curl up in a cozy cabin) will appreciate our plowed circle drive. For the protection of our cleaning personnel and guests during the 2023 rental season, we've built in a one-day cushion between check-ins.
Beautiful, two-bedroom cabin on Lighthouse Road in Big Bay, MI. As you walk in the front door you are greeted with spectacular views of Lake Superior through the living room bow window. Other custom windows bring in light and nature everywhere you turn. A custom-built circular staircase leads you up to the master bedroom with a king-size bed. You'll get spectacular views of Lake Superior from the Master Bedroom which includes a private bath and its own private deck. The downstairs bedroom has a full/full bunk bed which can sleep four. The upstairs loft provides additional views of Lake Superior, a cozy reading area, and with a queen sleeper sofa can double as a third bedroom. The cabin is well suited for six to eight - six adults or four adults and up to four children.
The cabin has a well-equipped modern kitchen with a gas stove, a dining room table with seating for six, and two full baths. The downstairs bath has a tub/shower with tile surround and the Master Bedroom bath has a shower with tile surround. The huge wrap-around deck includes a screened-in gazebo to keep you away from the bugs, a gas grill, and a food prep area. The cabin also has a newly installed two-zone air conditioning system, with an outdoor compressor, to keep you comfortable during hot/humid weather.
“The Huron Mountains encompass the most wild and rugged territory in Michigan. It is a region of low, yet surprisingly rugged mountains, swamps, lakes, and high plateaus.” (Huron Mountains Summit Post) The Huron Mountain Range runs from the Marquette area north and west through Big Bay and beyond, and along with the sandstone cliffs of Salmon Trout Point provides a distant backdrop for sunsets over the bay. The large lot, 225’ of Lake Superior shoreline, gives you a wide-angle view of the bay to the west. Lake Superior has been telling her serene and rugged story for thousands of years, and each daily chapter (weather permitting) ends with a sunset over Salmon Trout point. Every sunset you celebrate from Huron Horizons is one that has never been seen before and will never be seen again. Yes, they are that special.
Make sure you set aside some time to explore Marquette during your stay. Marquette "Queen City of the North" is about a 30 minute, beautiful drive from Big Bay, and is perhaps the most picturesque city in Michigan. We're a little biased but we believe that to be true. Marquette has many wonderful shops and restaurants (our favorite being The Vierling which overlooks the Ore Dock and Marquette's beautiful Lower Harbor). While in Marquette we would also highly recommend visiting Presque Isle and allowing enough time to hike and explore this wonderful peninsula. The Marquette area provides tons of outdoor opportunities including year-round world-class mountain bike and cross-country ski trails.
Here are some nearby attractions. Google for directions and more information. A PDF with additional information about the cabin, including links to these area attractions, will be sent after you've confirmed your reservation:

This property was perfect for our needs. Absolutely beautiful views. Will definitely recommend to our friends.
My husband and I had a wonderful long weekend winter getaway! Quit, peaceful location at a beautiful cabin with everything we needed, and the view was perfect. The property manager was great to work with. Made check in and out so easy. We'll be back again.
Superb property right on Lake Superior. Very clean, well appointed. Glad this property was opened up for winter and it is very warm.
Where do I start? The view was spectacular. The cottage was spacious, roomy, lovely in decor, airy, and restful to the eyes. The furnishings were new, clean and comfy. I spent plenty of time watching the water from a swivel chair at the front window. We drove to 3 local spots to eat—especially liked the inn and the history there is so fun. We watched Anatomy of a Murder while there and ate at the Lumberjack Tavern. :). The hosts provided such a well-maintained place to be able to relax, which is what we did. I found them very friendly with their contacts, and we appreciated the local information that they supplied, which was very considerate. My husband and I both felt that this was one of the two top-favorite cottage that we have ever stayed at, and we’d come back again, for sure. If I could hug a cottage, I’d hug this one. :D.
This house is VERY well taken care of! Everything was clean and we had plenty of room for 4 adults enjoying a Michigan Fall get-away. The kitchen was clean and had all the necessary appliances for our stay. Clean house and yard. The deck is nice to sit on and watch the sunset!
We had an awesome time during our stay. Jim was easy to work with and we never had a need to reach out to the property managers. We loved the area, and also learning a bit about the local areal and the family history of the property. We were pleasantly surprised to be able to get to a beautiful walkable beach. Just bring your water shoes and it’s a 15 minute walk over the rocky part to get there. It is so serene and peaceful here, with amazing views. Definitely feels away from it all! It’s really true that no matter the weather, Lake Superior is gorgeous but we actually had really nice weather. We took a couple of day trips to the surrounding area but mostly hung out at the comfortable home, walked on the beach and relaxed on the rocks! We definitely hope to be back in the future.
Awesome
