The Space:
Our inviting chalet cabin offers a chance for anyone to bask in the classic comfort of a home away from home. Oakview Point is perfect for couples, families, or groups of friends -- and it will be the ideal jumping-off point for your West Virginia getaway.
(Note: We recently did some renovation work in the front yard, and in the process a large portion of the grass was removed. We're currently re-sodding the lawn, but it likely won't have grass during your stay. That said, the side yard and fire pit areas are all unaffected -- so it shouldn't interfere with your stay!)
The cabin includes:
- Outdoor hot tub perfect for relaxing
- Three bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed
- Classic chalet-style layout, including an ample loft and large windows
- Distinctive wraparound porch suited for grilling and admiring the view
- Enormous yard and fire pit for the whole gang to enjoy
- Cute kitchen with an island (perfect for hanging out while cooking) and granite countertops
- Fireplace with pellet stove insert and floor-to-ceiling stone mantle (we also have baseboard heat, so the wood stove is optional!)
- AC to keep you comfortable
- Smart TV in the living room, with Roku set up so you can easily sign-in to Netflix, Disney+, or any of your streaming services
- Fast WiFi that’s fast enough to stream movies and hold video calls
We often take our two little kids and dog to the cabin with us, so we're very family- and dog-friendly.
Whether you prefer to enjoy some peace and quiet as you pad around the cabin or if you’d rather survey the grand woods around you on the deck outside, Oakview Point will not disappoint. The cabin is tucked away in the woods -- with nearby access plenty of amazing hiking trails.
Beyond the cabin itself, you’re just a short 30-minute drive to Shenandoah National Park. There, you can take in the awe-inspiring beauty of the Skyline Drive mountain ridge, spot wildlife, and hike to over half-a-dozen large waterfalls.
I see what the owners were trying to do with this property but it isn’t quiet there. When you first walk in you’re met with smoker smells throughout the house, along with wood stove pellet bags laying out on the floor that we about tripped over bringing our luggage in. Throughout the house there are simple things that are overlooked and concerning. No outlet covers on multiple outlets, light bulb sockets with no bulbs, no drain plug for my child to take a bath, no butter knives only sharp steak knives, holes in drywall, broken doors, large gap at the bottom of the front door, slider door does not lock, dead insects filling glass cover for the ceiling fan, dirty washer machine, no toilet paper roll holder, no curtains for upstairs bedroom with direct line of sight to the road and other houses, hair caked on shower walls, dirty walls, and couldn’t lock the deadbolt when leaving the house. I wasn’t expecting to need A/C in March weather, but when we got to the property every bedroom had A/C window units in them. These units were installed with wood, screws, and what seemed like plexiglass. It makes it look disheveled. A/C window units are not included in the staging pictures for this property listing. On the exterior of the property there are piles of nail filled lumber next to the hot tub, a large unburied PVC piping in the front yard, broken window screens, and a broken deck gate. If they finish fixing it, it would be a wonderful property.
I stayed at the house this past weekend and while the structure was as described and the hot tub was lovely, there was no heat outside of the bedrooms. When I asked the host about this, he suggested I go to Food Lion and buy “pellets” for the heater. Moreover, the second floor was infested with some sort of allergen - mold? Cat hair? Other?? - and none of us could be up there for more than a half hour without sneezing and scratching our eyes like crazy. I would NOT recommend this place. Ridiculous.
The chalet cabin rental was the perfect location for our family's birthday getaway. The hot tub, BBQ grille, and fire pit provided plenty of entertainment, and the wifi was an added convenience. The spacious primary suite upstairs and cozy reading loft gave us all the room we needed to relax. The well-stocked kitchen was great for preparing a special birthday meal. Overall, we had an unforgettable and enjoyable stay at the chalet.
Our team had a fantastic stay at the chalet cabin rental. The hot tub, BBQ grille, and fire pit were all great amenities, and the wifi was a nice bonus. The huge primary suite upstairs and reading loft provided enough space for everyone to have their own space. We would highly recommend this chalet for work retreats or any group getaway
The property is located in a beautiful wooded neighborhood. The property is dated, and the driveway could use a railing to get from the parking area up to the stairway. We had a family member that had a difficult time making it up. She has bad knees. Also, it needs to be advertised how to use the downstairs heater. We are from Florida and do not use a pellet heater. A few problems with the place that need to be addressed: the heater in the upstairs bathroom does not work; there is a wet spot in the downstairs hallway ceiling (at the bathroom door); there is a fire extinguisher that has the pin pulled.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at this property. The space worked well for 4 adults and two small children, as it has 3 separate bedrooms. We were also pleasantly surprised to find that a new hot tub had been added to the deck. We enjoyed playing games and socializing on the deck during the day and relaxing in the hot tub at night.
Great little cabin that fit the bill nicely.
We got there and there was a turkey on the deck waiting for us. This was not a wild turkey. The property was all set up for it in the back of the cabin. The turkey stayed on the deck the entire time and was pooping and watching our every move. It was impossible to enjoy the deck. We had to stay inside. We were not impressed. I contacted the owner and he said he didn’t know who’s turkey it was when it was all set up on the property to house this turkey. The house needs TLC. There were no curtains so that we could feel a little privacy from the neighbors or even from the turkey watching our every move. The stove was dirty inside and out. Fortunately we didn’t need to cook. The upstairs tub drain was full of hair and didn’t drain. There was bugs squished on the walls. It wais a lot to pay for this type of cleaning. Especially for one night. The furniture was very uncomfortable. Made for very short people. My 6’4” husband and elderly parents really couldn’t sit on the couch. With saying all that, a positive is the beds were comfortable thankfully. I feel the site did not depict what we were really purchasing. Needless to say we were disappointed.
