Description

Hiker’s Hideaway sits among the ponderosa pines of Kachina Village. At the center of the house, the living room, dining area, and kitchen stay open to one another. Windows look into the trees, and a gas fire warms the living space. The kitchen is fully equipped for preparing homemade meals, with the dining table nearby. Board games are stored in the island immediately beside the table, while books are kept in different places around the home.

Several people can sleep together in the bunk bedroom, which has full-over-full bunks and a full-size pull-out trundle and uses the shared bathroom off the hall. Farther along the hallway, the primary bedroom has a queen bed, a secretary desk, and its own bathroom, so the people using that room do not need to rely on the shared hall bathroom.

The dining area opens onto a deck with an outdoor dining table above the sloping yard. Steps lead down to two lower patio areas. One is furnished with seating and the grill. The other remains open and unfurnished. From this lower level, the large fenced yard spreads out beneath the trees.

Pines grow throughout the yard, with open ground between them and wire fencing enclosing the space. There is room for dogs to move through the fenced yard, with a hammock and basic swing beneath the branches. The natural slope becomes a sledding hill when the snow is deep enough. Hummingbirds, woodpeckers, squirrels, and other wildlife move through the wooded setting.

Beyond the fence, the ponderosa pines continue through the surrounding Kachina Village setting. Pumphouse Wash access is about four minutes on foot from the house. Downtown Flagstaff is about ten miles away, with Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona, and Arizona Snowbowl reached by longer drives.
