Less than a mile north of Alto Pass, Mark's Lane is between Alto Vineyards and Rendleman's Orchard Store. It's a very short drive to Bald Knob Cross, Cedar Lake, Little Grand Canyon, Pomona Natural Bridge or Trail of Tears state park. The hiking is great. Try the lesser used trail skirting beautiful Cedar Lake, one of the best fishing lakes in the region.
Alto Pass was in the prime viewing area for the 2017 Eclipse and will be again in April 2024. The Shawnee will again have the longest viewing time for the full eclipse. We have so much to offer visitors in the Shawnee Region. Nature lovers have an abundance of trails to choose from, several of them geared for the occasional hiker or children. There are excellent rock climbing locations for the more adventurous visitors. We have one of the best zip lines in the United States. Our region offers great biking trails. There are lavender farms, strawberry and blueberry patches, and a bison ranch. They start picking peaches in June. Apples and other farm fresh produce are available at the farm stores. Don't miss the orchards in springtime bloom. Watch for festivals and music every weekend at the wineries. Don't miss the food and wine pairing weekends. Yum! And before we know it, the beautiful fall colors will be here. There is something for everyone to enjoy in Southern Illinois. Have a busy day and then come back to a relaxing retreat at Cave Creek!
Very spacious! Love that each level of the cabin had its own deck and the stairs to the fire pit. The only downfall was no WiFi. I get that people come to relax but I really missed my ability to send text messages.
A nice clean place to stay at for the wine trail
My friends and I stayed at Cave Creek cabin for a fall weekend girls trip. Cave Creek was a great place to stay. Very clean and everything there that you need. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and listening to nature! So peaceful and relaxing. Highly recommend staying at Cave Creek. You don’t have to drive far to Rendleman Orchards, Havisham Bourbon Bar and several wineries! We will definitely stay there again when ee go back to Southern Illinois!
This place was so clean, we felt like the first people to ever stay. All the supplies we needed were there, fabulous decks, a fabulous fire pit area. Plenty of room for our group of friends and family. I was so glad not to have wifi, we spent time talking instead of on our devices. We could not have asked for more.
The cabin was really nice and well set up. The only thing we were missing was a dishwasher and an area to store our groceries. That wouldn’t stop us from renting again though.
We spent two night at Cabin 1 on a second visit to Cave Creek Cabins. For a second time we were so happy with our stay and the spotlessness of the cabin. I love how Rodger and Shirley have thought of everything we may have possibly needed! We love the deck and bonfire area. Just remember to take bug spray with you - being in the middle of a forest.
Very nice cabin. Clean. Beautiful wood with nice finish. From the deck it seems like a tree house. Fire pit was nice. They had every thing you need in the kitchen and bathroom. For outside had plenty of deck seating, bug spray ( we did not need it), and flashlight. Two levels were nice. My son had privacy downstairs with his own living room, bathroom , deck and bedroom. I would recommend this cabin.
Great cabin. Good location
Cabin was easy to find, clean, and a has the perfect location if you are planning to do the Shawnee Wine Trail or hike at Giant City State Park.
The cabin was the perfect setting for our family’s time in southern IL exploring the wine trail. Great amenities. The fire pit area is awesome. Highly reccomend! It would have been nice to have wifi available.
Very clean and well maintained cabin. Secluded but not too far off the beaten path. Many furniture pieces and the countertops were all handmade by the owner. Very comfortable and nice mattresses plus very nice bedding. Lots of fresh towels in nice size bathrooms. One of the cleanest rentals I’ve ever stayed in. Very quiet and peaceful location. No Wi-Fi though and phones had no internet service. Was still able to make phone calls, text, and use map app with Verizon. Definitely would recommend and stay here again.
The cabin had everything you needed plus more, they really thought it out! The location is great to the wine trail!
Great little hideaway! Perfect for what we needed as a home base for our trip.
The property is beautiful. There are two floors, so it was not to have space for four people.
Clean, prime location
best place
This wonderful cabin provided an excellent location to the Shawnee Wine Trail and Shawnee National Forest. Our stay was relaxing and included all the amenities and fun board games! I look forward to booking this cabin again.
