Shenandoah, Virginia
The 'Eagles Nest River Cabin' towers over a beautiful stretch of the Shenandoah River where the water meanders and swirls over a long stretch of underwater ledges and rocks. The 75' span of private river frontage offers steps and a floating dock for easy access to the river for swimming, wading, tubing, kayaking, canoeing, or just lounging in a chair. The fishing is the best around as the river offers a healthy population of small and large mouth bass. Waterfowl and other birds are abundant (over 50 species documented) and bald eagles are occasionally spotted. There is a public landing and parking at the bridge just up river providing for float trip opportunities down to the property. 2 canoes included at nominal fee so you can either canoe the Shenandoah River or just stretch back in a tube and float your day away (tubes available at reasonable price at Luray Super Walmart).
Sleeping 8, this cabin is beautiful inside and out representing the quintessential vacation cabin with white knotty pine interior, vaulted ceiling, 2 bedrooms, 2 lofts, a fully equipped kitchen and a huge front porch that overlooks the entire stretch of river. At the base of the steps of the cabin is a charcoal grill, table and chairs for easy outdoor grilling and dining. The spacious side and front yards offer plenty of room for group games such as volleyball, croquet, corn hole and horse shoes. The back of cabin is in view of the historic Norfolk Southern railroad. The freight trains rumble by the cabin without whistle approximately 3 to 5 times per day.
Centrally located just 15 miles from Massanutten Ski & Indoor/Outdoor Water Park Resort and historic Luray featuring Luray Caverns the most popular cave in Eastern America and an internationally acclaimed destination. The Shenandoah National Park is also internationally acclaimed featuring breathtaking views from the Skyline Drive (Swift Run Gap access point only 17 miles) and various distance trail hikes to waterfalls and other natural attractions.
We hope that you will decide to come visit and firsthand experience all that the Shenandoah Valley Region has to offer and while lodging with us at the Eagles Nest River Cabin. Fun is Waiting!
Lovely, cozy little cabin nestled next to the river. There were four of us, which felt like a perfect amount but the cabin can sleep up to seven, including the futon. Two rooms (four beds) are lofted and the cabin is up a long staircase, so not recommended for those with difficulty climbing stairs. Very clean and hospitable with clear, easy check- in/out instructions and plenty of pots, pans, and dishware. Because it's on stilts the cabin shakes a little when people are moving about but it didn't keep us awake. We had a very pleasant stay!
Great place.
Enjoy the house by the river and located close to Luray and Elton.
It was nice to disconnect from the world with no television. Easy access to river and beautiful country.
The cabin was beautiful along with the veiw!! Recommended
Quiet and Peaceful. Everything as advertised. We had a train run by each night, but otherwise very quiet.
The owner of the cabin was great to work with and his response time was excellent...Very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The cabin itself is gorgeous...so beautiful! The entire time I was imagining how beautiful I could stage it! The Location is close to Luray Caverns, Skyline Drive and so many other things to do. In regards to the property, I was very shocked when I arrived- to see it is on a Main road and the private pier is across the street! I don't feel that comes across in the description properly. Luckily we were okay and the road isn't terribly busy but I was surprised, especially with little kids. We were expecting a piece of property back in the woods (maybe down a long driveway?). The cabin smelled amazing when we first walked in *fragrance warmer was on* and everything looked clean.... until we went into the two bedrooms. Neither room offers ANY spot for guests to unpack a little. Every drawer or shelf is full of towels, blankets and sheets. Most of which are not the most appealing to use. It's great they offer all of that but I personally would expect the linens to be a little nicer. One of the bedrooms sheets smelled terribly and the other bedroom blanket and sheets had stains. Some of the blankets looked 20 years old. We all actually ended up sleeping on the amazing lofts AND luckily I brought my own blankets and sheets to use. The lofts were soo cool - even as an adult. We loved sleeping up there! Access to the canoes is a huge bonus and we definitely used them. They were great, however the paddles were locked in an deck storage box which had an old-fashioned dial lock on it (think high school locker!). It took us several tries to get it. We eventually did get it but it was becoming frustrating and we wish it were a little more of an updated lock. The owner left some neat instructions of places to hike and one of those places was supposed to be an old civil war grave yard. We followed the directions but it led to nowhere. In fact, once you get under the train bridge there are signs posted everywhere saying no trespassing. We kept walking anyway and we walked in two different directions... Neither of which led to any type of graveyard. We had a fun hike but it was a little disappointing not to find the graveyard we were hoping to see!! We had a really great 3 night stay but for the price, a few things were surprising to us (all mentioned above). I would recommend the cabin depending on your intent or reason for traveling!
Everything about this property was perfect, the beautiful views, the cabin inside was gorgeous and provided everything that we needed! The communication with the host was some of the best I ever received. The train that comes behind the cabin was exciting not just for the kids, I loved it. The fishing and canoeing was awesome. I noticed in other reviews they didnt have a tv so we brought one and a playstation for night time movies. Not having a tv would have not been a problem because they provided games! I will definitely be coming back again!!!
We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. It was clean and well maintained. Location was great. Perfect for day trips to wineries, cidery, lavender farm, and Harrisonburg. Highly recommend!
Enjoyable time floating down the River after hiking nearby.
Cabin was beautiful, well kept, and had everything you needed. Location with the river right in front was perfect. Train passing by, a couple of times during the day, was a great hit with the kiddos waiving at the train driver as he waived back, kids loved it and so did we! House owner provided a lot of great information about the area and things to do. There are a lot to do and the location of the cabin was perfect.
We had a great time at the cabin. The house was very clean and offered more amenities than we expected. It was a short drive to Luray where we enjoyed the sites and hiking on the Skyline Drive. Back at the house we soent most of our time on the river. The host offered canoes which were ideal for my husband, me, and our 7 year old son to enjoy. It is a
Absolutely loved staying here. The area was beautiful the accommodation were great! Our only complaint was our stay was too short! We didn’t want to leave.
This was exactly what we all needed! My Wife and our kids and son-in-law enjoyed a very relaxing 7 day stay at this amazing place that provided sun, fun and close to the water where we fished, swam and kayaked for the week in what we all say is the best waterfront on that stretch of the Shenandoah River. Thank you!
We enjoyed our stay! Kids loved having the access to the river. Even though it didn’t have a tv or washer and dryer we absolutely loved our stay! Other than that house has everything you need. Bring extra clothes :) wish we could of stayed longer. Will definitely stay here again.
