The Austin Street Retreat is an authentic historic home built by European settlers well over a century ago. Restored and embellished through the decades with modern amenities, there are now fiveunique suites. Located one block off Main Street in Fredericksburg's National Historic District, this premier property is an authentic Texas treasure built of stone, timber and stucco. It is situated on a large double lot shaded by old growth pecan trees and perennials from the LBJ Ranch. Each suite features elegant, charming decor along with a private terrace.

The Spanish word el jefe (the boss) is a fine description of this suite. A stand alone two story suite, it is entered through a Moroccan gate into the private terrace with fountain. Downstairs is a combination bedroom/sitting room, kitchenette and powder room with electric fireplace. Upstairs is a bath “palace” with jetted tub for 2, dressing table and balconette overlooking the Retreat.

The suite uses Brooklinen sheets and towels.

Twenty-five years ago, my wife and I got married in San Antonio, Texas. Three months later, I deployed to the Middle East. When I returned in 2002, my wife planned a getaway for us at El Jefe in Fredericksburg. We were young, and the layout of this small property accommodated our needs perfectly to help us reconnect. For our 25th wedding anniversary, I surprised my wife by booking El Jefe again. Three kids and 25 years later, the casita was just as amazing and still perfectly suited for a romantic getaway. The property's thoughtful design met our needs at every turn: The Front Atrium: Provides excellent privacy, creating a quiet, secluded space where we could just sit and laugh together. The Bottom Floor: Exceptionally functional. Having a refrigerator and microwave allowed us to stock up on snacks from the local H-E-B, snuggle up, and completely unwind in total comfort. The Top Floor: Features a beautiful bath and a wonderful, spacious setup for my wife to get ready for our evenings out exploring the city. Walking down memory lane here was unforgettable. Thank you for a beautiful stay and for maintaining such a special place. We highly recommend this casita to any couple looking for the perfect blend of privacy, comfort, and convenience!

If was okay. I would not stay again. The mattress was not comfortable at all the pillows was flat. I looked at the pictures and missed that there was not a shower. There were stains in the carpet which automatically makes me feel like the place was not super clean. The TV was super small. Theses are obviously all my opinions of the place and not comfortable for a vacation for me

It was an excellent weekend, and much of that was due to the pleasant moments we spent at the property.

FOR THE MOST PART IT WAS PERFECT. COULD USE A MORE COMFORTABLE SEATING OPTION FOR WATCHING TV INSTEAD OF JUST THE BED OR THE UPRIGHT CHAIRS. VERY NICE AND ANTIQUE CABIN. LOVE THE JET TUB!! FRONT DOOR ALSO NEEDS ATTENTION BEFORE IT COMES APART. 10/10 WOULD STAY AGAIN.

This was an amazing stay! The courtyard was perfect for coffee and reading. Close to Main and still super private. We will return!

Had a great weekend getaway with my husband and El Jefe was perfect! Hate that you took out the wood burning fireplace but overall still 10/10.

We just celebrated our 23rd anniversary by enjoying a lovely and relaxing stay at El Jefe. I believe this our fifth time staying here including our first anniversary in 2002. Thank you very much for another wonderful experience.
