Canyon, Texas
This “aerial lift” of a cabin takes its name from the Sky Ride concession that operated at Palo Duro Canyon State Park in the 1960’s. The original ride’s abutment is sitting next to this cabin reminiscent of the good-old-by-gone-days when station wagons and family vacations were the norm, and state parks were a favorite place to take them. A series of chairlift seats moved excited park visitors from the canyon floor hundreds of feet above to the top of a mesa that can be seen below from this cabin. Now, excited ChairLift cabin guests unwind and enjoy magical moments at dawn and dusk when the golden light plays over the soaring cliffs and rock spires of Palo Duro. One of the best features of the fantastic view from this cabin is the interplay of blue sky, brick-red rock and lime-green vegetation. ChairLift is the perfect Palo Duro Escape for the nostalgic and adventuress traveler.
ChairLift is a two-bedroom, two- full bath, in a very functional and cozy 1,000 sq. ft. design. The cabin features a wood burning fireplace, covered patio and built in Propane grill. The fully equipped kitchen offers everything you need to make you feel at home. Clean linens and towels are provided for your comfort along with extra blankets for cozy nights.

The cabin was wonderful! Very clean. Very comfortable! The kitchen was well stocked for preparing all meals. I felt like I was at home. The bottle of champagne in the fridge was an added bonus and kind. We will definitely be back!
Overall, fantasy stay. We are used to a few more kitchen items like leftover food containers, glad wrap, etc. Again, location was wonderful and “Chairlift” was just delightful.
Excellent all around! Beautiful inside and out. Will definitely be back. Watched sunset, moon rise and sunrise, all from the front porch or side drive.
We always stop here for a few days in between softball tournaments in Colorado and Dallas to relax and unwind. AMAZING views, wildlife everywhere, stars at night are unreal, and most of all quiet!! We have stayed in two units. The Fortress and Chairlift and both were fantastic. Go see the show one night at the state park!
wonderful stay, very relaxing and private
Great place! We really enjoyed our peaceful getaway.
We loved being by the canyon, the outdoor grill and the comfort of the couches that held us while we talked for hours gazing at the views. Kitchen well equipped, beautifully decorated, and comfortable beds (though a bit of a climb up into them for those of us who are a bit short.) Superb!!!!
We loved everything about this place. Chairlift is absolutely beautiful. Everything about our stay was perfect !
We are from Houston and wanted to spend a long weekend hiking in Palo Duro Canyon. I found this property on VRBO and fell in love with it. It more than met our expectations and was exactly as described in the listing - actually, better! The property owners are VERY friendly and responsive!! Our water went out one morning after a thunderstorm. We called and they told us we're already on our way! (apparently we were not the only cabin affected). The issue was fixed in 15 minutes and they even called back to confirm that we were back up and running. A wonderful excursion to the Texas Panhandle. Well worth the long drive, fellow Houstonians!!
Very nice place. Super clean. Great location.
Needed a stop over on a road trip back home and decided to stop in Armirillo for 2 nights. We found the house “Charlift” and couldn’t have been happier with the house and the view. A definite recommend.
This is one of the most peaceful places we’ve ever stayed. Incredibly quiet. Beautiful property with everything we needed.
Location was great. Property was clean and host answer all questions. Check-in/out was very easy.
This cottage has it all - everything you need other than a toothbrush and a few clothes. The cottage is beautifully & very tastefully decorated in rustic Southwest style. Views are stunning. Wifi and television worked smoothly. The cabin is described as remote, but Canyon, TX is only a short 15 minute drive away. There are numerous restaurants and at least two places to buy groceries. Be aware that many of the counties in this general area do no allow alcohol sales, but you can buy anything you need in Canyon. The park itself is stunning and this cabin is very close to the West rim affording a truly beautiful view. One word of warning expressed in a previous review is that there are burrs in the scant vegetation that will adhere quickly to you and your dog. Keep to the gravel areas and it will be fine. If you go, buy tickets for park admission well ahead of time. Communication with the managers of Dove's Rest ahead of our visit was excellent.
The views from the cabin onto Palo Duro Canyon harken back to days of Lonesome Dove. The cabin was lovely with all the conveniences needed. The bottle of champagne was a welcomed treat while sitting on porch watching wildlife.
I really wanted to share my love and fascination of the Palo Duro Canyon with my daughter and grandchildren. Staying here really got them excited and everyday they couldn't wait to get to the canyon for hiking and horseback riding. *** Use the horseback riding in the canyon - Old West Stables. We will definitely stay here again while visiting family.
What a great place. We loved every minute of it. The cabin is so comfortable and the views are amazing.
