The Sand Dollar, one of four cabins in the Mendocino Coast Dunes Retreat, can be rented together with the other three cabins or separately as a great place to stay during your amazing vacation. With a dog-friendly attitude and a comfortable interior, everyone will love it here!
Located right next to the dunes, about seven miles north of Fort Bragg, this vacation rental is in a great position for you to enjoy everything the area has to offer. The ocean is just over a half-mile away (though you will have to hike over some sand dunes), and MacKerricher State Park, well-known for its hiking trails and seal-watching, stretches to the south of this vacation home.
With one bedroom and one bathroom, this home can sleep up to six people, and is also dog-friendly. With a queen bed in the bedroom and two fold-out futons, a close-knit family or group of friends will be very comfortable here.
In the living room, you will find a large TV equipped with cable and a DVD player, plus board games and a lovely gas fireplace. You will also have a private laundry area, so there's no need to worry if your clothes get a little dirty during your vacation. Complimentary WiFi is also available.
Outside, you will discover a private deck and firepit. You will love roasting some marshmallows at the end of a fun-filled day.
This would be a fabulous cabin to rent on its own, or you could combine with family members, friends, coworkers, or others and rent all four cabins for a large event! With Fort Bragg 10 minutes south, and Mendocino about 25 minutes down the road, you will be surrounded by the beauty of nature but still close enough to the conveniences of the city.

The location was beautiful and the house was nice, except that it hasn't been maintained. The hearing doesn't work and it took 8 hours to get the house up to 60 degrees inside using the space heaters. The dishwasher works, but it's missing all the wheels on the lower rack. There is a hot tub, but it didn't work. The microwave trips the breaker when you use it. The clothes washer works, but the handle for the soap dispenser is broken. There is a long list of stuff just like that. Overall, we had a good time, but having everything be broken was disappointing. It was also pretty clean, but a few dishes in the cupboards were dirty. Not really a big deal, but it completes the picture. The bed were very comfortable, there was plenty of space, and there is a nice, fenced and grassy back area for the dog. The location is stellar, and the house is pretty inside. I would rent it again in a heart beat and consider it a steal if all the little broken things were fixed.
Clean, sand dunes right out of the back yard. Plenty of space for three people and our yellow lab. We loved it!
The converted carport was adequate. Home and amenities are not in that great of shape. Dryer not working, fridge sounded like it’s on its last legs. With the fireplace either on 90* or off the space heaters were necessary to keep chill out of the air. A little work and TLC would make this a great place. Vacasa was horrible to work with. Customer service was nothing about the customers. Vacasa doesn’t really mean “just call if we can assist”. Checking to add a Sunday night or a later check out wasn’t even considered. The rep put me on hold for quite awhile while he obviously didn’t check with owner/agent. A quick check on line for availability verified it. We hadn’t even mentioned all the stuff not working yet. Will watch for improvement posts and be extra aware so we don’t need to ask Vacasa for anything before we consider a return.
Property is well used but nicely maintained. Location was perfect for us; close to all beaches and parks, towns but far enough that we didn't have the hustle of tourists and traffic. I would stay again in a heartbeat. There's so much beauty and nature left to visit.
Usually we just stay in a hotel this time we rented a house it's was a little farther from the ocean area we like but well worth it not being in a hotel. Cute quiet area that me and my family enjoyed.
Bigger than expected. Clean. Quiet. Cute little setting.
The property is as advertised. Nothing Fancy but clean with all the things you need. It could use a coat of paint, and some updated furniture which would go a long way in making it a bit more comfortable & inviting. It feels a bit like the guest house that time forgot, but again nothing wrong with the place just a bit tired & dated.
House was simple and comfortable. Perfect for our stay, we enjoyed it very much. We didn't take our garbage outdoors until the end of the week however as a bear came into the backyard two nights out of four that we stayed. Will definitely be back.
It was cute and clean had everything that we needed. I love the location walking distance to 10 mile beach. We stayed here to celebrate my boyfriend’s 40th birthday, we we’re excited that this was a pet friendly house and we got to bring our doodle. We enjoyed our evenings by the fire pit.
Nice little out of the way house Private 5 minutes outside Fort Bragg
This house was perfect for our needs. Pet friendly. But... the cook stove has been broken for 6 months now. The portable little range took 20 minutes to cook scramble eggs. Liquid ant traps on the kitchen counter, ants in bath tub. The dryer is terrible and water stinks. No cell service and Wi-Fi is spoty. We enjoyed our stay here and would stay again. Like I said, needs some TLC.
We loved our stay, there is a fenced backyard and a bonus private yard for guests who have dogs. It will be even better when the hot tub is back up and running. Fireplace works great, big kitchen, and bonus sunroom. Would love to rent again.
Great location and very quiet. The house is a bit dated and there are several small step ups and down. At first is was awkward but we adjusted. The futon was uncomfortable to sleep on. The kitchen is nice but the cooktop does not work, the knives are dull and the silverware isn’t the greatest. There was a portable cooktop and that did the job. Loved being able to walk to the sand dunes. Would definitely stay here again. With a few upgrades this would be 5 stars. The Wi-Fi and cellular service is as advertised.
