Easy, relaxing
I stayed here for several months in the summer of 2019 and had a fantastic time. House has everything needed for a relaxing stint. Hearing the birds on the porch every morning was a highlight, as was watching the fireflies in the yard every night. It's just down the road from Germantown proper, where you can get a delicious breakfast burrito and your groceries at Otto's or have dinner at the amazing Gaskins. In the other direction, you'll quickly hit Tivoli which has cute restaurants and shops. And about 20-minutes away is Hudson, with tons of restaurants and stores to keep you busy. A lovely place and Ripley and Jack couldn't be nicer.
The cabin is very nice! If you are looking for a quiet place to relax this is the place to be. Various historical and accomodations are within a short driving distance. I highly recommend staying here and it is very reasonably priced compared to other locations in the area.
Myself and 3 groomsmen stayed in the cabin before my wedding day and it was the perfect setting. Relaxed and with great amenities. Drinks on the deck were delightful and the whole experience really addd to our special day. Thanks Ripley and Jack for a great experience.
The Creekside Cabin at A Private Estate is a charming place to stay, especially when the summer (or autumnal) heat is oppressive elsewhere. The cabin has ready access to the glorious Hudson River via the Cheviot dock, with a convenient place to put in a kayak, canoe, or sailboat. It also has its own creek right down the hill out the back door, for fishing, stomping, and exploring. The house is newly constructed, equipped with air conditioning and a fully functional kitchen with cooktop and comfortable bathroom, but it has a very traditional feel. Everything is tastefully outfitted and very cozy. Making breakfast with that view, and the wildlife on display out of the window is a joy. We did not miss an oven, especially not with the grill outside. There are some terrific locally grown meats and of course vegetables available at the area farmers markets to cook there. We enjoy the access to walks along the country road, which has some very historic looking houses along the way. We also explored the trails elsewhere on the property, which includes some old orchards. This is a convenient location, as well, for a vehicle like ours, which is rather low-slung. I would rather come here when there is either mud or snow on the ground than somewhere farther off the paved and prepared road. This place is also wonderfully convenient to the picturesque town of Tivoli, in one direction, and the eccentric magnificence of Olana, and all the shops and apple orchards in Hudson and its environs, in the opposite direction. The hostess was exceedingly gracious and helpful, and knew everything there is to know about the area. This is an adorable hide-away, and I look forward to running away there again soon.
We rented this cabin as part of our weekend wedding at A Private Estate. Since this cabin is essentially on the same grounds as our wedding venue, it was a perfect place for me (the groom) to stay the night before the wedding and for my groomsmen to come and spend the day with me on wedding day. We were all able to comfortably hang out (indoors and outside) and get ourselves ready for the wedding. The cabin had everything we needed - comfortable beds, a great new bathroom and kitchen, and a tremendous wrap-around porch to soak in the outdoors. While cozy, the cabin still felt sufficient for me and six groomsmen to spend some quality time together. I would highly recommend the cabin for other, similar situations and, with four twin beds upstairs and a comfortable couch downstairs, others looking for a weekend getaway as well.
