Slatyfork, West Virginia
Four wheel drive vehicle required December -March.
Hickory Hill Cabin is located in Slatyfork Farms, a private residential community 3 miles from the entrance to Snowshoe Mountain Resort and about 15-20 minutes from the slopes. Nestled among shag bark hickory trees, it is a great place to retreat to after a day of skiing or snowshoeing in the winter, or hiking, biking, fishing, or canoeing or kayaking in the warmer months. Family and friends can relax in front of the fireplace and, if desired, a satellite TV and DVD player are available. The cabin has a large loft which is great for a couple with small children. the loft has a queen bed and a two single beds. There is also a small TV with a selection of movies for viewing away from the adults downstairs. The main floor has a great room, 2 bedrooms, a full bath, and a half bath. The basement has a sitting area with a foosball table and a bathroom with a shower and washer/dryer.
Hickory Hill Cabin is ideal base for outdoor activities year round. Winter provides downhill and cross country skiing. When the snow is gone mountain biking is available at Snowshoe and at other trails located in Pocahontas County. If you prefer a more sedate ride the Greenbrier River Trail is close by. Known as the birthplace of rivers, Pocahontas County is home to the Greenbrier, Elk, Cranberry, Williams, and Cherry Rivers. These rivers provide many opportunities for fishing as well as canoeing or kayaking. There are also trails for hiking in area. Cass Railroad (14 miles) and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (16 miles) are also fun places to visit. The Cranberry Glades are about 35 miles down the Scenic Highway (Route 150). The drive is beautiful and the Glades area offers hiking and mountain biking.
A land line telephone is available for local and long distance calls. Linens are provided. Although the roads are well maintained in the winter, a 4 wheel drive vehicle is required. Internet is not available. WI-FI is available at the Linwood Visitor Center at the turn to go up the mountain to Snowshoe. No password required.

Our family has such a great time staying here. Very convenient to snowshoe and the grocery store in the area. We lucked out and had some snow while we were there too! It is a very relaxing place to spend some time in the mountains.
This is my third time staying at this property, every stay has been great. Really nice quiet property very close to Snowshoe resort. It's the perfect place to use as a basecamp while in the area to mountain bike. I will be coming back next year for sure!
This is our third time staying at Slatyfork Farm but our first time at this property. The cabin was not dissimilar to the other one we stayed at nearby but much cleaner and more spacious. We only used the beds on the main floor for our family of four (includes a toddler still in a pack-N-play) but could've fit many other people both in the loft and downstairs. The kitchen was very well stocked, even including a good coffee grinder! We are used to WiFi but only missed it a little (there's none at the cabin) and mostly enjoyed the chance to truly unplug. We had a little bit of cell service (Verizon) at the cabin. It was our oversight that the place does not have A/C (only heating), but even in late July we didn't need it--the nights were cool and the windows/fans in the cabin allowed for ample airflow. Ruth was a very responsive and attentive hostess, and everything went as smoothly as possible. We would stay here again in the future if returning to the area. The only negative we found (though it didn't affect our overall experience) was that the basement smelled a little musty. However, it is a nice basement that we can tell is being redone thoughtfully, and it only bothered me (not my husband or kids), probably because I have a lot of allergies and am sensitive to smells like that. The biggest positives of this property are its privacy/seclusion and natural setting, plus proximity to Snowshoe and the scenic railroads.
While this cabin is not actually on Snowshoe property, it is close enough to seem like it. It is just a short pleasant drive. We stayed there to go skiing at Snowshoe and it was perfect for us. I would stay there again if we go back to the resort. The cabin and location was just as described and Ruth was always quick to answer any questions we had.
We had a wonderful stay in this cabin at Slatyfork Farm. Warm and inviting with all the needed amenities. About 10 minuets or so from Snowshoe Mountain Resort, this cabin is a perfect place to stay if you want to be near the resort but like a little bit of distance from your neighbors!
Very satisfied. Everything was comfortable. Well-stocked kitchen, liked having the basement as a retreat.
Cabin was just as described. Clean and spacious.
Exceeded expectations. Comfortable beds nice stay. The water situation was a bit unexpected. It’s on well water and you have to fill a big tank in basement daily by opening a valve and waiting for it to fill. Wasn’t a big deal for us but might be for others. Great location relative to snowshoe. Overall recommend. We would return.
Location is great, cabin was cozy. Not ski season so very quiet not many restaurants open. Great leaf colors, walking trails.
Great property! My second time staying here and I'm sure it won't be my last. Cabin is very clean and comfortable. Loved sitting out on the porch in the mornings just taking in the peace and quiet. This is the perfect place to stay if you're visiting Snowshoe.
