Buena Vista, Colorado
The McCall Creekside Cabin has served as a private family retreat over 40 years, located in the pine and aspen forest on the side of Mt. Princeton in central Chaffee County. The Clark and Banning Families, all residents of the B.V. area, purchased the cabin from their friends Dr. Charlie McCall and his wife Ernie to provide space for visiting family and friends, and open it up for guests the remainder of the year.
Enjoy spectacular views of Mt. Princeton and the Arkansas River Valley. Sitting in the cabin or on the deck, you can relax to the sound of the rushing stream flowing by, on its path to the Arkansas River. This is a very quiet and secluded location, literally at the end of Mt. Princeton Rd., and provides a quiet and comfortable setting for couples, families and small groups looking for a pristine Colorado Mountain vacation experience.
In 2016 a renovation to the cabin was completed, replacing all of the carpeted floors with clean, bright ceramic tile, and warm wood laminate. A large deck, light fixtures, windows, window treatments, and soft goods are just some of the additional items renovated. Our family cabin sleeps up to 6 people. The open floor plan keeps everyone included in the fun while fixing the family meal, or an evening snack in the large well equipped kitchen while the family plays a game at the dining room table, or watches the flat panel TV (Dish) in the living room. If the kids have a different programming choice they can watch another large flat screen in the walkout level game room. Both the walkout level and the main level have master bedrooms and bathrooms, ideal for a two family vacation of a lifetime. The loft has 2 twin beds, two game sofa's and a half bath. The cabin is fully equipped for comfort, with linens, dishes, silverware, pots & pans, outdoor gas grill, along with typical kitchen appliances including microwave and dishwasher.
The cabin is located just 8 miles south of Buena Vista, very close to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort with multiple pools, and a water slide open to the public, and a short beautiful drive to Salida. From the Cabin you can hike or mountain bike to the Colorado Trail or many other trails in the area. There is not a more centrally located vacation home in the Arkansas River valley that has this level of forest solitude. Multiple white water rafting outfitters, Colorado’s best ATVing, hot potting in Chalk Creek, a real Colorado ghost town, some of Colorado’s best fishing (lake and river), jeep trails, horse back riding, and miles and miles of sightseeing, are all just minutes away. The circle drive provides ample parking, and easy in and out for your vehicles or ATV trailers. If you couldn’t already tell, we love the McCall Creekside Cabin and look forward to sharing it with you for a week or two.
This is our second year staying here and we absolutely love it!
Great property and well maintained.
We had a great time! The house was perfect and just what we needed.
We had another great week in BV! We have used the McCall cabin several times and it is always a pleasure to stay there!
Cabin was well furnished. It had all we needed to be comfortable, kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pans and utensils. The king bed was very comfortable as was the queen upstairs. Only downside for us was the spiral staircase. We managed but, it was rather trecherous for us. Nice and clean.
We love it so much we came back 2 months later! It is always so relaxing and so much to see and do in the area!!
What a great cozy cabin! What a great location for exploring the Valley and all it has to offer. You are 12 minutes from almost every place that you would need to go! Such a treat to have the the song of creek to sing you to sleep!
Cal was great to work with. House was comfortable and convenient to our 4 wheeling trails..
When we arrived the house seemed clean but by midweek mouse excrement was showing up: on counters, in bathrooms, and in the kitchen. Two mice were caught in indoor traps and we found two more live mice in a decorative milk can that we had to deal with. They would run across the floor in front of us when we were sitting or lying down. There were mouse droppings on the nightstand close to my head where I slept. We could hear them making noise behind walls. It got progressively worse through the week. There were numerous traps set inside and out and also ultrasonic mouse repellers plugged into outlets throughout the house. Cal apologized and said they’ve never had a problem with mice and all the traps and repellers were preventative. He came and set out 7 new traps in the house. We considered leaving early but didn’t want to ruin the vacation for our teens & 20’s kids. On our last afternoon Cal offered a hotel room for that night but by that time most of our party were out hiking and it wasn’t feasible to move. We’ve rented vacation homes since the 1990’s and this is the first time I’ve given anything less than 5 stars. We prefer remote country settings, even so, I don't remember ever encountering mice. They are unsanitary, carry disease, and it wasn’t just one but there were numerous, possibly many mice. They were extremely unpleasant to deal with and added a great deal of stress to our vacation, therefore I believe this poor review is fair. Had we known ahead of time we would not have rented this property and others may wish to inquire about this situation before they rent.
Nice place to stay and Cal was very helpful.
This cozy cabin set in the trees was exactly what you picture a cabin in CO to be. The cabin was clean and well maintained. The owners were absolutely lovely and went above and beyond to make sure your stay was enjoyable. Our son loved it so much he didn’t want to leave. I would highly recommend this property to anyone staying in this area.
It’s was a beautiful property and great to have the owners call and check on you
My family has stayed in this cabin many times and it never disappoints. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for our 3 families to stay. We love the secluded location next to the wonderful creek and beautiful view of Mt. Princeton. Always relaxing to sit on the deck to visit with family or just read, sip coffee and take in all the sights and sounds of nature. Our 4 hosts (the Clark's and the Banning's) are the kindest and most accommodating people. We highly recommend our favorite vacation place.
It was a great place for our family!
