Bring your boat, canoe, kayak or sailboat to enjoy thousands of acres of water in southern Illinois. Lakes, ponds, creeks and streams in and near the Forest offer boaters picturesque setting for summertime rides in the sun. You can access waterbodies over 2,000 acres. You are within a short distance of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers and where they meet.
Fishing enthusiasts will find year-round opportunity to angle for trophy-size bluegill, sunfish, catfish, white and yellow bass, crappie, and large mouth as well as spotted bass. Just to mention a few!
Hunters will be scheduling their returns for years to hunt the whitetail deer, squirrels, rabbits, Canadian geese, quail, ducks and wild turkeys thriving in the Shawnee National Forest. Shawnee Bluffs Canopy Tour consists of 8 zip lines, the longest stretching more than 1,100 feet, which zig-zags across the property's bluffs and through the valley. The tour also includes 11 platforms high in the trees, 3 aerial suspension bridges, the longest stretching 180 feet, and 2 short ground hikes.
