Jamestown, Tennessee
Welcome to Fall 2023. Changes this season is a new layout in the new addition room. plus, the entire cabin has fresh stain and looks well maintained.
The Big South Fork/Pickett State Park is an excellent area to get away from it all. Outside of hiking to the Twin Arches, most trails are sparsely utilized. There are not many restaurants in the area, so the kitchen is a focal point to enjoy after a day's hike. The kitchen at Hikers Hideaway is stocked with cooking gear better than most to account for the distance to town. For example, there is a crock pot to cook while you hike. There is a six-quart Instant Pot to give a try. I will attempt to block out an entire day after guest leave to eliminate "turns". A turn is out at 11 and next guest in at 3. Spacing out guest arrivals ensures the cleaning lady time to address extra cleaning steps and processes. Please plan to enjoy the outdoors in the Big South Fork this season.

Hikers Hideaway is a 760 Square Foot cabin with front and back covered decks (hammock hooks!) on 2 acres in Spruce Creek Acres. Both front porch and back deck have sitting arrangements. Located off Highway 297 between the Bandy Creek Park Headquarters for Big South Fork and the Pickett State Park Visitor Center on Highway 154, this cabin offers the opportunity to access hiking trails in both Parks. In addition, the Pickett-Pogue International Dark Sky Park is nearby making this hideaway convenient for astronomers. I am sorry to say the cabin does NOT provide any type of horse facilities (No HORSES) plus NO ATV usage (or side by sides) are allowed in Spruce Creek Acres or at Hikers Hideaway. In addition, the cabin is NOT pet friendly (NO DOGS) and of course is SMOKE FREE.
However, hikers, naturalists, canoeist, astronomers, photographers plus anyone looking to enjoy attractions and events in the Big South Fork region will find "Hikers Hideaway" cabin and its location ideal. Once booked, the owner can provide hiking advice to some of the off the beaten path arches, waterfalls and landforms this unique area offers.
The one topic of concern is keeping up with garbage. There is a new bear proof garbage "cage" that holds a 20 gallon trash can. Please do not over fill garbage as the cleaning lady struggles with heavy to lift bags and unruly trash. There is a typical 12 gallon can in the kitchen. It is recommended to eliminate excessive packaging prior to arrival. Any trash bags left outside often result in animal issues with ensuing mess. A mess caused by improper garbage handling can result in a damage deposit charge. This is the reason for the new bear proof garbage.
Pickett State park has recycling near the campground dumpster. Guest with multiple day visits can arrange a pickup schedule prior to the duration of your stay. Please do not call at the last minute. Which is to say please plan ahead to keep the garbage from being a negative. There is a dump station at 2075 Pickett Park Highway and 515 Fairgrounds Road in Jamestown. The Pickett Park Highway dump station is open on Tuesday/Thursday and Saturdays.

The fall foliage around the cabin was beautiful. We enjoyed having a full kitchen and having a washer & dryer. The cabin is pretty remote and the drive to it is very twisty but the scenery is great. We had aimed to do some hiking but it rained so we took the train ride in Stearns and enjoyed listening to the rain on the tin roof when we returned.
We wanted a simple cabin near the hiking trails and this was a great fit. Beds were comfortable and had everything we needed.
It was a great cabin that we enjoyed while visiting Big South Fork and Pickett Park. The only thing we missed was a hot tub tfor our muscles after all of the hiking.
Beautiful cabin in the woods. Awesome host!!!
I went to the area to do research on And a friend recommended this cabin. It was one of the best mini vacations I have every had. It was peaceful and relaxing at the cabin all of the needs were met.. It is close enough to others but the way it is situated you have privacy. The cabin was beautifully well kept Just a very peaceful atmosphere all around Thank you so much for the opportunity to have this experience .
The property is perfectly located for hiking in Big South Fork and other nearby parks. The host provided specific hiking suggestions in response to our expressed interest, including books and maps, and the cabin was filled with resources for hiking and for learning the history of the area. The cabin is well and comfortably furnished and equipped. We enjoyed our stay and will be happy to stay here again.
This cabin was so great! Very well stocked kitchen and close to lots of trails! The hammock is amazing! The view on the back deck is so peaceful. We were fortunate enough to be there when the stars were showing their best show! We saw meteors, the Milky Way and some of the best star “views” I’ve ever seen. It’s close to the astronomy field, which was super convenient. The owner was a great communicator. Lots of trail maps and books available at the cabin. I loved the newspaper articles on the fridge about the area. This is probably one of the cleanest rentals I’ve ever stayed in! The only thing I would say, is we had a little trouble knowing if the front door was locked while we were in the house- the knob would just turn and sometimes made a very small sound that we assumed meant it locked. We had a great time and would highly recommend staying here! The “U” shaped driveway was super convenient too! Thank for the awesome getaway!
This location is perfect for hiking and kayaking nearby. Had everything we needed and more. Thank you!
The cabin was just as we hoped it would be from the description and pictures! Nice, clean, and quiet! For sure would go back!
The property worked perfectly for us, as we were exploring Pickett and Big South Fork. Conveniently located between the 2. Everything we needed was there for our stay and the beds were comfy!
My son and I were pleased to return the same cabin this year for more hiking and relaxation. It is clean, unassuming, and supplied with everything you need to get get away from it all.
I found everything to be accurate according to the listing. Keith even allowed my husband and I to check in early. Unfortunately I fell sick and had to leave a day early, but I would recommend this cabin to anyone!
Very clean everything you would want in a wooded hideaway. So enjoyed the deck, looking out into the woods, so relaxing! Very quiet and private.
The moment I entered the cabin I felt happy and at home . It was not cluttered with pretentious “ coziness” , but very clean , tasteful decorated and furnished . Good photographies and small artful/ craft objects perfectly placed . I have the feeling the owner is an Engeneer with a love for art and of course nature . The hiking books for the area were of great help ! On the practical side … nicely stocked kitchen , good mattresses and pillows , the windows open easily and we did not need to turn on the air condition. The lighting is perfect and well labeled. The owner is definitely very thoughtful to create a carefree most pleasant environment! IMydaughter and I truly appreciated these efforts . I have stayed in many cabins and B&bs in different countries . I am glad we found this one !
Whether you’re at Jamestown to hike far into the wilderness, to visit historical sites, or to see arches and waterfalls that are nearby, Hikers Hideaway is the perfect spot to come back to at the end of the day. There is nothing lacking at this comfortable cozy cabin. It is quiet, you’ll enjoy wildlife, a great bed, wonderful water. We knew Keith was there if we needed assistance, but we had planned and researched ahead of our trip and then consulted his books and other info plus used that great internet connection to keep up to date on weather forecasts. This cabin is so wonderful that we’d consider using it as a base to explore even farther - the local roads are great. Perhaps the best compliment we can give is to say Hikers Hideaway felt just like home. Thanks, Keith, for sharing.
Great ?
better than I thought it would be. fully equipped kitchen. Clean and comfortable
Had a great visit at Hiker's Hideaway. It is located in somewhat of a wooded development that seems to be popular for horses and horseback riding, although we were there for all the great hiking opportunities nearby. It's fairly remote, so we made meals there and found the kitchen stocked with almost every imaginable cooking supply. Laundry supplies were available as well. Very comfortable rooms. Nice back deck overlooking trees as far as you can see. We loved staying at this cabin and definitely plan to return in the near future.
This is the 2nd time I've rented this property and I enjoyed it even more than the 1st time. The location is fantastic. It's great having a washer and dryer available and the bathroom is spacious and spotless. The kitchen is extremely well stocked and the host is very helpful planning hiking excursions.
