Hanover, Illinois
Conveniently located at the doorstep to Galena’s Chestnut Mountain Ski resort sits this incredible 4,200 square foot custom log home on a 40 acre piece of Mississippi River bluff country. From the moment you pull into the driveway it is very apparent this property has been cared for and maintained to the absolute highest degree, as you are greeted by the original farmstead barn that has been preserved to an excellent condition. Wild game food plots line each side of the 1,200 ft private lane that leads down to the 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath log home constructed out of Massachusetts White Pine. Entering the home there is an immediate “wow” factor from the massive great room with vaulted cathedral ceilings, a floor-to-ceiling stone clad fireplace, and large south facing Marvin windows that dual to filter in natural light and also capture the dramatic views of the wooded valley below. Open floor plan throughout the main floor flows from the great room right into a combination dining and kitchen area highlighted by glass-front Hickory kitchen cabinets and a unique sun-burst design integrated on the east interior wall that is sure to be a conversation piece among guests. A large master bedroom, private master suite with sunken whirlpool tub and separate walk in shower, a powder room, and a combo laundry and mudroom round out the main floor. Arguably one of the neatest features of the entire home is the custom White Pine spiral staircase that leads up to the two spacious second floor bedrooms and bathrooms, with an open hallway that looks out across the great room. Open concept continues in the lower level walk out with a large family room complete with a full wet bar and gaming area, a sauna and plenty of room to comfortably host and entertain guests. Walk through the interior french doors into the home office with a beautiful built in desk and bookcases which also flows into a bonus room downstairs that could serve as an exercise room or an additional bedroom. It is no wonder why this home was featured in Log Home Design Magazine and local newspapers, as every square foot was planned with purpose from the square head nails to give off a rustic finish to the 50 foot wide deck to take in sunsets as it falls over the wooded countryside. An additional screened is the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors sights and sounds in comfort while offering protection from the hot summer sun and insects. Near the top of the driveway is a 36 X 56 pole barn complete with a concrete floor, power, and water that can store all of necessary equipment to maintain the property. Rectangular in shape, the property is mostly wooded with several elevation changes and offers endless recreational opportunities including excellent whitetail, turkey and small game hunting and hiking. The orchard, which contains a total of 18 fruit trees, is within eyesight of the home and acts as a buffet for visiting species of wildlife as the fruit falls in the fall. With the exception of some personal items, the sellers would be open to negotiating a turn key sale to include furnishings and property maintenance equipment. Within walking distance to Chestnut Mountain, 15 minutes to Downtown Galena, and just 5 short miles from the banks of the Mississippi River at Blanding Landing boat launch.
For entertainment during your stay you can enjoy AIR Hockey, Pool billiard, Table games, Play Station 5. 40 Acres of private wooded land , private ATV trail and private spot for hunting.
We had a wonderful time celebrating Thanksgiving with our parents (4 x 60 yo +) and our children (3 and 7 yo). The place was gorgeous, very secluded but much closer to town than Eagle Ridge. So much to do with billiards, hot tub, sauna, air hockey, and cards. We brought the Nintendo Switch and the kids loved it! Downstairs was great for my immediate family. The kids slept on the daybed and trundle bed, french doors divided them from us. Our elderly parents got the primary room on the main floor. Our younger set of parents got the room at the top of the spiral stairs. My brother even stopped by for a night and there was an additional room for him upstairs. The oven worked great for the turkey. There was an extra fridge in the garage. Plenty of cookware, plates, and utensils. I used the washer/dryer a few times. The garage held 2 cars. Only notes, there was no toilet paper, paper towels, dish sponges, or clothing detergent. There are no curtains or blinds on any windows. The last thing is when you arrive you have to pass a barn and drive a couple hundred yards before you see the house. Aside from that great stay!
