Afton, Virginia
This single-bedroom cottage is named for the Barrel Cooperage "Billon" (bee-yon). We used these barrels most recently in our Sangiovese. They offer a light touch of oak while keeping the fresh bright character of the grape. You'll feel refreshed and bright too in this cottage below our beautiful grand weeping cherry, with the deck looking straight out over the wildflower meadow and into the mountains beyond. Park-like views from the bedroom and bath, vineyard and mountain views from the deck and every other room in this cozy cottage.
Featuring a king-size bed, spacious tile bathroom, open plan living room, and a fully equipped kitchen. Freshly decorated with local art and contemporary furnishings, and all countertops of locally quarried soapstone. Solar shades in the rooms with views and room-darkening shades in bedroom and bath. Electric fireplace in the corner can warm you on a chilly night, or create that intimate ambience when you're ready to snuggle in for the evening. 650 private square feet with a deck overlooking the wildflower meadow.
Afton Mountain Vineyard's Tasting Pavilion is only open Thursday through Sunday.

While the weather wasn’t ideal, it was still a pleasant stay that was relaxing and quiet. The property has minimal parking for 4 cottages, which is a small issue if all the spaces are taken. The cottage is modern and comfortable however, it wasn’t as clean as I’d expect. There were lots of cobwebs and the bathroom cleanliness was questionable with a visibly dirty toilet and shower. It really seemed like they hadn’t been scrubbed in awhile. And while it may be a small complaint, the coffee maker in the cottage was beyond tragic. Because this is a rural area, there really isn’t anywhere to get coffee which is why making it at the property is important to us coffee drinkers. The coffeemaker was small and only made two cups. It was also dirty and kind of damaged. And lastly, someone in the past has brewed something in it that was flavored, and you can taste the residual flavor. This was particularly disappointing. Otherwise a nice, affordable, relaxing place to stay.
Right on the winery, simple check in and no fuss. We will stay again. Highly recommend!
It was so much nicer then we expected. We booked on a whim to attend a wedding on a nearby vineyard. Already planning our next trip to rent out more properties in the area. Highly recommend. Only thing I'd add as a suggestion is better lighting on pathway to the rentals.
This was an amazing property. We had a really nice time. We were able to bring our dog Nugget. The views and the winery were amazing. Checking into and out of the property was very easy and onsite. Directions on how to leave things was very to the point and easy. We absolutely loved and enjoyed our stay and would go again and recommend the property to others!
Perfect getaway if you are looking for quiet, beautiful scenery and being close to Wintergreen, wineries and distilleries. Cabin is decorated nice and is clean. Loved the king bed and the spacious bathroom. Only regret was not exploring more of the vineyard…it was a cold and windy weekend.
Very pleased with the Billon Cottage, which was both clean and comfortable. As a party of two, the cottage was roomy and could easily accommodate a family of four. We enjoyed the location - being right on the vineyard - and the view of the Blue Ridge from the deck. It's convenient to Charlottesville and surrounding attractions, and we highly recommend the cottages if considering a visit to Central Virginia.
We loved our stay! The setting is beautiful! It was everything we thought it would be. ??
Was such a quaint cottage. Very comfortable with a great view
The house was perfect for my husband and I. Loved the porch. Fruit flies were abundant this time of year, however we are on a vineyard! No issues
Staying in the cottages at Afton Mountain Vineyards we really excellent. My wife and I did it as a last short summer vacation before she went back to teaching. The atmosphere is excellent and you stay looking out over the vineyard. Very clean - very new - and very comfortable. The cottage is new but it is quality. Furthermore, I felt like I got 'bang for my buck'. The wine tasting was included. We got to keep the wine glasses as included. The employees were very pleasant to talk to and interact with. The cottage was plenty of space. Overall just an excellent experience. I wish I could remember his name, but the gentleman who served our wine tasting (former teacher) was very pleasant to talk to. He was knowledgeable about the wine, he answered all our questions, and he made great conversation.
Very clean, contemporary furnishings. Incredible views. Minimal kitchen provisions (housewares, food supplies-e.g.no sugar) Bathroom-only one towel rack, toilet tissue fixture falling out of wall. Mike was excellent. Kate was helpful although it was not clear whether refund was issued due to lack of internet or original overcharge for rental (nightly charge on website varied from $165 to $209, no mention of different charge for weekday vs. weekend nights) NO REFUND indicated on online credit card statement!
It was a beautiful experience! The cottage was impeccable with beautiful views! The staff in the tasting room were very accommodating!! Excellent
The view from the house was absolutely beautiful - it was peaceful and refreshing. It's also close to Blue Mountain Brewery, which was a great place to spend a couple of hours. STAY Charlottesville was very helpful and friendly.
Super place, central location, love the view, space, ease of access and decor. We didn’t have any contact with anyone, which was totally fine. It seemed odd going into it but it worked out just fine.
The property was beautiful, we look forward to booking again in summer or fall when everything is greener. One issue, there was a fairly long walkway and the lights did not work. We read something about not leaving outside lights on because of wildlife which makes sense but I wish the walk lights were on a sensor. The person we booked with was very helpful.
The property was well appointed and located in a scenic area. We enjoyed watching the sun set and rise from our balcony. Everyone was very responsive to our questions and accommodating to our request to arrive early.
Beautiful place, awesome house. We will definitely go back. very friendly and helpgull
We really had a great time staying in Billon Cottage last weekend. I'd like to offer the following comments, though: 1.While the cottage was lovely, we thought it was overpriced. The add-on fees for cleaning, early check-in, etc. were disappointing. For the same total price, we would probably stay somewhere else in the area next time. 2. The cottage is advertised with TV. We didn't realize with TV really meant with 1 channel. We certainly didn't travel to Afton to watch TV; on the other hand, it would have been nice to catch up on news, live sports, etc. 3. The furnishings, fixtures, design, and style were all very lovely. The kitchen and bath were great. The bed linens, however, left a lot to be desired. The pillows, honestly, were awful and the sheets and comforter felt cheap and thin. 4.We are glad we thought ahead and brought a bag of coffee with us, as we were surprised to find that the cottage did not come stocked with coffee. 5. The loveseat seemed to be well made and attractive but we found it very uncomfortable when sitting on it side-by-side. 6. Please keep the above comments in perspective. AMV is a beautiful place and, despite these hiccups, we had a wonderful time there. We imagine you will accept these comments in the spirit in which they are offered and for the benefit and greater comfort and enjoyment of future guests. Very pleasant.
Beautiful views and felt very private. The cabin was perfect size for the two of us.
Everything was very nice except the spider webs around and in the cabin. The cabin is quite remote from shopping so a little coffee would be nice. very good
The Afton Mountain cabins offer a cozy retreat with beautiful views. They are a quick drive from both downtown Charlottesville and hiking along Skyline Drive.
We were looking for a small getaway, The location accommodations were fantastic.
Afton Mountain Vineyard Cottage was very nice. Great views and space for little pup to roam.
