Ruidoso, New Mexico
High in the mountains above Ruidoso, New Mexico is Abbey Lodge, a magnificent jewel of a home that is your perfect reunion headquarters. This three-story home with nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms will easily accommodate a party of up to 23 guests. Up to six cars can park right on the property and out back you have spectacular mountain views. This is the place to stay if you love skiing, hiking, or just sitting on the deck enjoying the crisp mountain air.
Once you’ve arrived and walked through the front door into the main Abbey Lodge living area, you’ll be struck by the warmth and beauty of your vacation home. There’s a beautiful fireplace with a flat-screen TV mounted above with cable and a DVD player. You can gather your guests to watch a movie or play a game in this large room furnished with comfortable couches and recliners. With lots of window and glass sliding doors all around, it will be so cozy to watch snow falling outdoors while snuggling by the fire.
One of the great things about Abbey Lodge is its dining area. It is one of the only vacation properties in New Mexico where 23 people can sit down to dinner together. Your guests won’t be crammed in either. There’s plenty of room around the two long tables, both of which offer good views out the window.
Of course you’ll want to tour around the area, hike, ski, and maybe bike. Be sure to check out the village of Ruidoso that’s close by and also near to Ski Apache resort that has runs of varying difficulty and a terrain park. Ruidoso, which means noisy, was named after Rio Ruidoso – the Noisy River – that runs through the village.
On those days when you stay around Abbey Lodge, you’ll want to head up to the third floor where you’ll find a beautifully outfitted game room. There is a pool table, Foosball, Air Hockey, Shuffle Board, and a large flat-screen TV for gaming and program viewing. With free Wi-Fi within Abbey Lodge, you can play games online, send email, and check out websites f
clean, roomy, comfortable, well stocked with supplies. Kitchen was large enough for us to cook family dinners for 19 people and stocked with enough dishes, large pots and pans and electric appliances. Beds were very comfortable. Kids loved that it came with deer and hummingbirds - really loved the back porch.
Master bedroom did not lock. Smoke alarm went off when dish washer was on. Couches in living room should be replaced. Other than that all was great!
The house is big and nicely situated on a hillside with a great view. The 9 bedrooms worked well for our large group (21). The decks were nice and people enjoyed the hot tub. But not everything was fantastic. The downsides include: - broken down and uncomfortable couches - broken freezer handle - dishwasher quit working - advertised chairs and tables for 23, but only had 13 chairs. - the knives were all dull and none of the 3 can openers worked - the tvs were very small and outdated (no streaming/casting) - the beds had plastic bed covers which were awkward to sleep on. - several sinks were quick to back up - by day 2 we could smell sewer; assuming the septic needs to be pumped. - the driveway is very steep and the gravel parking in front of the house was 3/4 mud. - the refrigerator’s ice and water were disconnected - no spare sheets, blankets, or throw pillows - fireplace on the back deck was non-functional - the trash dumpster is at least a mile away - the game room equipment is showing it’s age and missing key pieces The Pros: - the management was responsive when we called - they sent maintenance to look at the dishwasher and bring game room pieces - lots of towels and storage - the heater worked well - the place was clean - kitchen was relatively well stocked with small appliances, utensils, plates, bowls, etc. This was a nice place and fulfilled our needs. However, for the price, we expected a bit more comfort.
We did experience some issues. The sewer was overflowing outside so the smell was awful and numerous broken items. The heat on the main floor wouldn’t come on so our rooms were very cold.
Beautiful mountain top lodge with plenty of room for our large group to spread out and enjoy an early Christmas celebration! Well appointed with most all essentials for a weekend stay.
Used for a small business meeting. great location, plenty of space. Parking is a little tight.
Beautiful cabin! The scenery is beautiful. Very spacious for our 7 kids, they’re spouses, our grandchildren and our mom. All the adults had their own room and bathroom. Kitchen was beautiful and well stocked with dishes. 2 large dining room tables where the whole family can sit and enjoy our meals. Will book again!
The area around the property is full of wildlife. If you like the outdoors you will enjoys. Enough room for 18 adults. Everyone had plenty of room. The whole group enjoyed our stay.
We stayed at Abbey Lodge for our family reunion (20-ish people) in July 2022. The good: The house is huge; it comfortably accommodated our big group & everyone appreciated the large bedrooms and having their own bathroom. Big driveway held a ton of cars. The two huge dining tables in the common area let everyone eat together which was great. Beautiful views from the decks & we saw deer right outside every day + (wild turkeys)! Hot tub & game room were great to have (although see below). And there's a huge variety of stuff to do in the area. The bad: The house, while having great bones & great space, has a LOT of deferred maintenance. We ended up calling it the 80/20 rule; everything was 80% fine but the last 20% was not so great. I could make a long list but as a few examples: everything in the game room being janky (pool table tilted/no powder for the shuffleboard table/no way to attach the ping pong table net (we used pool cues LOL) + the ice machine/water in the fridge not working + 1/3 of the grill not lighting + no extra blankets to be found anywhere, etc. Our group is pretty chill so nothing was a huge deal & we had a great time together in the house. But I can definitely see some higher maintenance folks being annoyed by all the smaller stuff. :) ps) Couple of tips: don't bother bringing lawn games like we did - with the mountain-side location there's no lawn! And bring your own knives for cooking; there's not a sharp one in the house/they were bad enough we ended up buying one. :)
View is world class, cabin was built to party and relax. Had a wonderful time and I would encourage any group of people to get on it and enjoy This place. MY ONLY Complaint is that some one commented that the hottub was no longer on the property. We that was BS and I did not have my swimming trunks. IT was there so bring a swim suit.
