Stayed Aug 29, 2025Wonderful place for a friend's weekend. The house is gorgeous and fully stocked for a large crowd. The views are great! The double-deck boathouse is great! You can float, swim or fish off the dock. Or just enjoy the sun! We rented the owner's boat and had a great time on the lake. The fire pit is fun for an evening gathering. The hot tub is nice for chilly evenings. The kitchen is new and fully stocked with pots, pans, silverware, etc. The linens are already on the bed. Check-in was very easy. And check-out was also easy. There is a lot of space, lots of bathrooms, great mattresses, great tvs to watch sports and a Blackstone to cook outside. I would definitely rent an Off-Road Vehicle to go up and down the mountain to the water. That is very steep and a long way down. But the house and property look just like the photos. The owners had great communication with us. And we cannot wait to go back!

Stayed Aug 9, 2025Very private, older kids and young adults had a great time jumping off the 2 level dock and swimming. The pontoon boat was fun and easily towed 2 at a time. Love setting on the upper deck, the view is outstanding. Definitely get the recommended UTV, us old folks would never make it up the hill without one.

Stayed Aug 2, 2025This is by far one of the best properties we've found for a vacation spot. The house was absolutely gorgeous and everything was exactly as listed. There were plenty of bedrooms (and then some) and more than enough space for everyone to do their own thing. We rented a UTV to get to the lake (which you really need to do) and made the most of the two-story dock. The kids loved jumping in and using the kayaks. Everything within the house worked great and it was more than we could have asked for!

Stayed Jul 26, 2025We had a wonderful family reunion here. It was perfect for our family of 3 generations. The younger ones had their own play area downstairs with foosball, games, tv…The view of the mountains is beautiful and the sunsets can be too! We would definitely return here. But things to note:If you plan on going to the lake a lot you need to rent the UTV from Cooke Rentals. If you are staying a week you will need extra towels and washcloths (only one per person per week are provided) or bring laundry detergent. No hand towels are provided. No hand soap, shower soap, dish soap are provided. You will need extra toilet paper. The store is not close so come prepared. Lake James is a beautiful, peaceful lake! The hosts are very responsive.

Stayed Jul 12, 2025We loved our stay. Would definitely recomend renting a atv 4 wheeler. The owner was very helpful to everything we needed. Lots of great memories with three generations of our family. If planning a lake vacation again, this would be our first choice.

Stayed Jun 21, 2025The house is really well maintained and clean... However, you're in the woods so naturally there are bugs.Views are amazing. A UTV is a must - you won't utilize the lake as much of you don't have one.Lots of space for the family to gather - but also enough room to have alone time.Would absolutely stay again!

Stayed Jun 22, 2024We loved staying in this house for our family trip. We had ages ranging from 8 months to 67 with about 4 different family groups. There was plenty of room for everyone and the kids loved the queen size bunk beds. The kitchen was stocked full of anything you needed to cook. It was the most stocked kitchen we have ever rented in. We cooked every meal but like 2 at the house for all 16 people. The walk to the lake is long but the owner helped us secure a utv for the drive down. This is a must! We love swimming/ jumping off the dock using the paddle boards, kayak and even rented the boat. Wildlife wondered all over the property and could be seen from the main house. The driveway was large enough to fit our 5 vehicles and is the last house at the top of a large hill. Due to the layout and design, I will note that those on main floor could hear every noise in the 2nd floor rooms. The basement was quieter. We spent majority of our time on the main floor but the basement activities were enjoyed by the kids. Note majority of hikes and place to go are about 30 min drive from property which was fine with us as we enjoyed the lake majority of the time.

Stayed Jun 29, 2024Amazing house with an amazing view An ATV or UTV are a must as the hike down to the lake is a challenge and the hike back up even more so. Still worth it when you get to the dock and the lake. Will probably look t o rent again next summer

Stayed Jun 15, 2024This is the best vacation ever! exclaimed my grandchildren about halfway into our stay at The Reel View. And, indeed it was. There were 13 of us staying at the house, with other extended family members in a nearby house. We spent most of the afternoons and evenings in The Reel View because of its water front and fabulous dock. Even though the access to the dock was steep, it did not deter anyone--especially since we rented a UTV upon the strong advice of the owner and previous renters. The children loved jumping off the dock into the deep water. We also took full advantage of the kayaks and the paddle board provided by the owners. My 14 year old grandson spent copious amounts of time fishing from the dock or from the kayak. The best thing we did, though, was to rent a pontoon boat for the week. Mike met us and gave a boat lesson to our designated captain. He also told us about taking the boat to some islands farther up the lake. Being among the oldest, I loved riding in the boat, but the younger people claimed that being pulled in a tube behind the boat was the best! Having a boat at our disposal for the week was a definite plus! This house was extremely well equipped! Most evenings other extended family members who were staying in the same neighborhood joined us for supper. We had plenty of dishes and glasses and cookware--which is not always the case in short term rentals. The Reel View is a great place for families and friends to gather!

Stayed Jun 8, 2024The house was great for our big family. We enjoyed the boat with wake board and tube. Kayaks and paddle board were a lot of fun too (very spidery when we arrived) the dock gave us plenty of room for fiahing, sunning and playing in the water
