The Hyde House Bed & Breakfast has been showcased during “Nelsonville’s Tour of Homes.”
Breakfast could be better. Not very warm and yogurt was out on the counter with no cooling pad. I have suggestions to make the property better.
Was a beautiful historic home with a lot of character
It was very convenient to everything and clean.
Breakfast was supposed to be included but no one came to fix the breakfast. Guest soaps and shampoo were so small and did not lather in the shower. Remote was difficult to use with no instructions. Had to check in at another location. Host not on site. Cigarette butts all over front porch. Very few restaurants in town.
Loved how clean and spacious the room was...we stayed in the Lilac Room, which had both a king and queen bed, plus extra comfy chairs and pillows. Did not realize we needed to bring our own showering products (shampoo, conditioner, and body wash), but luckily I had done so anyway. The neighborhood was nice and quiet. We even walked down to a local bar to watch some football and it was very convenient. Parking was very easy also. Easy drive to Athens, which was our destination for the visit. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious at The Hyde House also.
Nice town and really nice Bed and Breakfast
House was convenient to downtown and Hocking College. Clean, great condition, complete breakfast. Quiet and comfortable. We will book Lilac Room when we return.
Nice historical house, with great access to state parks
Good
Our friend had booked this stay for us for our honeymoon and it was perfect. We thought it was so special they did flower peddles on the bed and kept everything very clean! Loved to stay again next time.
Very nice place. Everything was beautiful and the young ladies who served breakfast were very sweet. Just off of the main square and very close to the bike trail. Was disappointed that the hot tub wasn’t very hot and didn’t have enough water in it.
We had a nice stay at the Hyde House. Rooms were clean and spacious (we were in the Lilac suite). Weekend breakfast was different each day, small selection but filling. Liked being close to the town square.
The old house was lovely, SUPER clean, and appreciated. It’s a nice stay that fits its price point (nice house and beds, nice towels and average linen, but super tiny bathroom, walmart kuregg coffee pods, thin toilet paper, good but not made from scratch breakfast). Manager/owner isn’t on site and you have to call a Pro adventure sports shop (also where you check in) if you have a problem or question. There was confusion about where breakfast was going to be: inside the Pro shop down the road (a store) during weekdays or inside the house on weekends. During our stay June 2, 2023 the hot tub was not opened and hadn’t been cleaned for the season. Overall, a pleasant stay, just not luxury.
The Lilac Suite was lovely and had all the essentials. The check-in representative was super nice and helpful. Our host Sunday morning was friendly and made us a fantastic breakfast. Highly recommend!
It was a bit dusty in my room around the overhead light and I dropped my glasses in the couch pulled it out hadn’t been swept for a very long time some of the stands in hallway were dusty. also hot tub not very warm other than that Great I would stay again I know you’re probably thinking I’m nagging but are used to do housekeeping for a living and it’s just me whenever I go into places and I see things like that. It’s just like restaurants but I did enjoy nice day.
Five Star B&B organize beautiful house. thanks for a wonderful time that we're heading there
Overall we had an amazing experience. The property was beautiful. The perfect relaxing getaway after hiking all day. We got locked out after not remembering to bring our keys with us to the hot tub, and the housekeeper came at 7 pm to make sure we were not still locked out, though another guest had already let us inside. Wonderful staff.
The home was lovely and our room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast served at the home on Saturday and Sunday was good. There are a few things that made our experience less than we had hoped. First, the owners/operators are not on site. Check in is at a separate business that they operate (Adventure Pro). We were given vouchers when we checked in and were told that they were so we could try out the new deli that was available at Adventure Pro. When we arrived at the home we had no info about what time breakfast would be served. We sent an inquiry through VRBO and the response was that there would be no breakfast served at the house on weekdays, but we would need to drive to Adventure Pro and get breakfast at the deli. It would not open until 9:00 a.m. So the bed & breakfast is not really a bed & breakfast. Friday morning we went to Adventure Pro and arrived at 9:00 a.m. It took about 1/2 hour to receive our breakfast. We were in the area for sightseeing in Hocking Hills State Park and 9:30 is a pretty late start for us and anyone who has any place to be in the morning. The reason given was that too much food is wasted if cooking at the B&B when it's not fully booked. I'm not sure that makes sense because you can cook an appropriate amount of food for the number of people in the house. Saturday evening there were people staying at the house that had attended a wedding at a nearby venue. At about 10:30 p.m. they returned to the home with additional friends along that were not registered guests and were very loud in the shared liviing room and kitchen. A little before midnight another guest at the B&B went to the group and told them others in the house were trying to sleep. I'm sure the policy is no non-registered guest. If the owners had been on the property this would not have been an issue. We didn't use any of the deli vouchers until Sunday evening when we decided to pick up something for breakfast the next day (Monday) as we needed to start our return travel by about 8:00 a.m. and the deli would not be open until 9:00 a.m. We were given $80 in vouchers when we checked in that said nothing about a limit on what you could spend in a day. We purchased some cinnamon rolls that we could eat back at the house the next morning and some sandwiches for our trip back home. When the total was over $20, we were told we could only use $10 per person per day, so we needed to pay the difference despite the fact no vouchers used earlier.
Good
This is a beautiful home from the 1890's, on National Registry of Historical Locations, which has been lovingly and completely resurrected as a B & B, run by a local family with a lot of excellent help! From the excellent breakfast cook (delicious) to the friendly lady who took care of the rooms, to the owner herself, it was a treasure. The only issue for me was the air conditioning (which on the last day I learned we could adjust) and a bit of confusion about the check-in process (even though the people at Pro-Adventure were very helpful) which was a bit confusing. I did not know until the last night there was a jacuzzi either, but with so many interesting things to do around Nelsonville (kayaking the Hocking River being one of them), it was not missed! On my next trip back to the area, there is no question about where I would stay!
First time for my wife and I staying at a Bed and Breakfast. The Hyde House was very well kept. Bed was comfortable as well. The owners stopped in the first morning when breakfast was made. They gave us some recommendations on things to do in the area and were pleasant to talk to . Would highly recommend staying and would for sure go back.
