Stayed Oct 30, 2021Pointless having a TV when there is no channels? when the property is too far from any walking areas of interest, it would be nice to at least have one channel available at night when you have a child in bed. The window sills in bedroom were so dusty i sneezed all night. I emailed the owner prior to entry but he never responded. Overall it was nice to have my dog in an enclosed area but way too expensive for the worth

Stayed Apr 12, 2021We stayed 12 & 13 April. The train carriage is great, with everything you would need in the kitchen & bathroom area. Kevin also allowed us to have our 2 British Bulldogs stay with us. The carriage is fully fenced so they were able to come and go as they liked. Situated in a nice rural setting, but only a few minutes drive into Kaikoura township. Thanks Kevin, we hope to stay again at some stage. Cheers, Julie & Andrew

Stayed Jan 22, 2019We were a family of 4 adults looking forward to an interesting stay in unusual accommodation in rural Kaikoura. We were extremely disappointed with the standard of accommodation which was very cramped and uncomfortable with no place to unpack any of our belongings or to store them. The bunk beds were not suitable for adults. The accommodation was very hot and only some of the windows opened part-way. Most distressingly of all, the water cut out during the night causing much inconvenience and causing the cistern in the toilet to emit a continual noise which made it impossible to sleep. Of the 4 outside chairs, 2 had no backs on them and the umbrella provided was totally inadequate as it provided very little shade. Given the hot weather there was no way of escaping the heat when sitting outside or inside. Considering the cost of the accommodation, and as seasoned travellers, we were expecting a higher standard of basic amenities. We definitely cannot recommend this property.

Stayed Jan 10, 2019Very nice host! A lot of things to play with for children who can also help to feed the animals twice a day. Good location, Kaikoura is just a short drive (approx. 8 minutes by car) away. Obivously limited space inside (e.g. small fridge) since it is a converted historic train carriage; outside fenced area with a play train. If you like Pizza, try Black Rabbit in Kaikoura - delicious!

Stayed Dec 31, 1969This is a really unique, rustic setting with great mountain views and within an easy drive of Kaikoura. It is great for kids , with morning and afternoon feedings of the animals part of the unique features of the site. The railway carriage has an enclosed lawn for children and dogs to play. It also has two separate bedrooms (including a double bunk), plus a compact kitchen and lounge, all loving restored to retain its 19th Century character. I totally recommend this quirky, comfortable retreat.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969The train carriage is amazing. A truly amazing fit-out (George Clarke should really pay a visit!) The attention to detail is very impressive (and it was beautifully clean). We absolutely loved our stay and would like to have stayed longer. The farm park is just a short drive from Kaikoura township along a quiet country road. The farm park really added to the experience for our kids. We felt warmly welcomed as guests. Highly recommend!
