Stayed Dec 29, 2024The photos look much better than what you get. The place needs serious deep cleaning. All light switches are dirty, film of dust on top of the fridge which is low so you can see standing there. We had to use the pull out sofa which is smaller than a twin size bed, the area behind was full of dust and stains on once pulled out on couch. There was sheet but no pillow case. Had to use the sham pillow from the main bed. The actual couch was ripped and stained. We didn’t use the pool. The unit has no window only sliding door which if opened you can hear the ducks or chickens in the early morning. Very noisy. If people are by the pool you hear everything as well. Bathroom moldings are dirty or need a new paint. Tries not to look closely. The worst part was it smells stuffy, uncirculated air when you walked in since there is no window. We had to open the sliding door the whole time and closed everything when we left and again when we were back, the stuffiness was there until we turned on the fan and opened door again. Location is ok. Need a car. If you walk, coming back at night the street would be very dark, no light and not sure how safe. You could also hear the noises from the bar near the water. Just not a comfortable place to stay.

Stayed Nov 18, 2024The Pool was great, we liked the feral cats, chickens and ducks roaming the property. It was quiet, close to restaurants and shopping, easy to get to the beaches, downtown and highways. The Hosts were pleasant and accommodating. We didn't use any of the cooking facilities but it was nice to know they were available if we wanted to cook.

Stayed Nov 11, 2025Everything was good, would be better if the bed pillows were better quality. Very uncomfortable, I ended ended up using a towel as a pillow. Instruction booklet as how to use the counter top oven would be helpful as well. Had to google to find instructions. The room and neighborhood are just as the photos show. Close to town and restaurants. Excellent ramen near by. The tv has Netflix which was nice.

Stayed Oct 20, 2025Great location to explore Hilo, visit Kilauea and waterfalls. Room was clean but older. Parking lot is uneven, be careful. Comfortable bed, great shower. We enjoyed the pool. Nice for our stay in Hilo.

Stayed Sep 8, 2025We had an excellent stay at the Waiakea Villas. The room was comfortable and the amenities were excellent. Check-in was by lockbox, but it was easy to use. There is a State Park just around the corner which was a nice place to walk in the mornings. The room does not have central A/C (like many places in Hawaii) but it did have a portable unit. We did not find instructions for how to use the portable unit in the room's guest guide, but eventually figured out that there is an outflow pipe for hot air that needed to be wedged between the sliding doors to keep it in place. If you close the screen doors completely in front of it, there is no worry about bugs (the balcony/porch is also screened in). Also, be careful that the drip pipe doesn't fall out of the machine and leave a puddle on the floor. One tiny issue was that coffee grounds had been left in the coffee maker from a previous guest, but otherwise the place was spotless.

Stayed Jul 27, 2025We were only there during the night. We didn’t use a lot of the amenities there, but it was very hot. The AC vent was meant to go outside which meant we had to leave the sliding door open. We didn’t feel safe doing that, so we slept in the heat. The cleanliness could be improved. Stains on the walls, dirty shower curtain liner, and dust almost everywhere in the unit. It was more visible on the ceiling fan.

Stayed Apr 24, 2025Location was close to Edith Kanakaole Stadium, wish the area of the Villas weren’t as sketchy. Cleanliness could’ve been better. Studio had portable AC but would need to have the sliding door open because of the flex tube. Communications with host was great.

Stayed Apr 4, 2025The condo provided us with a nice, cozy accommodation that suited our needs. The view just a few steps off the doorstep was absolutely stunning. We enjoyed the pool and everyone we encountered during our stay was very friendly. Really enjoyed our stay in Hilo!

Stayed Jan 11, 2025Even though the property is a bit dated, the accommodations were nice, clean but a bit noisy. Loved being able to leave the screen doors open, loovered doors closed and listen to the rain all night.

Stayed Aug 5, 2024My daughter and I stayed for two nights in the ground floor studio. As we were not driving but taking the bus, we were happy to find out that we could get within a few blocks. On foot the location is somewhat tricky to find. We used the address and that left us at the wrong side of the pond. Once we got to the place it was cutely decorated and stocked with what you would need. The studio can be stuffy, so be sure to use the fans provided and get instructions. We discovered that we could walk downtown though it was at least 30-45 minutes walk. Bikes would make this easy. Hilo is a cute town with good food. The bus is free and we took it to the beach and the airport. Overall this was an affordable, safe, quiet place to stay. Not fancy but cute. Not in the center of it all but close. When we had questions we got gracious help from our co-host. Great for budget travelers and simple duos.
