Guest Access:

A residential street parking pass is available and must be requested and printed in advance of your stay; once set up, you can park like a local on nearby streets. Many guests also arrive by train at Union Station and walk or take a short ride share to the apartment.

The Neighborhood:

You’ll be in a classic Capitol Hill neighborhood with tree‑lined streets, brick rowhouses, and a mix of families, professionals, and visitors. Guests often describe the area as peaceful and residential while still being incredibly convenient to major DC sights, restaurants, and public transportation.

From the apartment, you can walk to the U.S. Capitol, Supreme Court, Library of Congress, and Union Station, as well as nearby parks and playgrounds, coffee shops, and a grocery store. It’s a great balance of “real neighborhood” and “in the middle of everything,” especially if you want to explore on foot

Getting Around:

Capitol Hill is one of the easiest neighborhoods in DC for getting around without a car. You’re within walking distance of Union Station (Red Line Metro, Amtrak, MARC, VRE, and intercity buses) and a short walk or ride to Capitol South and Eastern Market Metro stations on the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines.

Several Metrobus and DC Circulator routes run right through the neighborhood along key corridors like Pennsylvania Avenue and East Capitol Street, with frequent service toward the National Mall, downtown, and Nationals Park. From Union Station you can also hop on the DC Circulator to reach Georgetown or other popular areas for just a low flat fare.

If you prefer to explore by bike, there are Capital Bikeshare stations within a short walk, including one by Union Station, giving you easy access to bikes for quick trips around the Hill and the Mall. Many guests choose to park once using the residential parking pass and then walk, Metro, bike, or ride share everywhere from this central spot.

Other Things to Note:

There is a family living upstairs, and you may hear normal family sounds (footsteps, kids playing, stairs), just as they may hear you—this is a real DC rowhouse, not a sound‑proofed hotel. If you value an authentic neighborhood experience and understand typical city noise, this home is a great fit.

We provide starter supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, and basic toiletries); for longer stays, you may need to top up at a nearby grocery store. The building and block are primarily residential and feel calm at night, but as with any city, we recommend standard big‑city awareness when you’re out and about.

Here are some FAQ's – Before you book!

- How close is the apartment to the U.S. Capitol

The apartment is about a 10–15 minute walk (roughly half a mile) from the U.S. Capitol dome, depending on your pace. Guests regularly remark on how convenient it is for Capitol visits, tours, and hearings.

- How far is Union Station

Union Station is typically a 10–15 minute walk, offering Amtrak, regional trains, intercity buses, and the Metro Red Line. Many guests arrive by train and love that they can be at the apartment within minutes of stepping off the platform.

- Is the listing accurate compared to the photos

Guests consistently note that the listing is accurate and matches the photos and description, with many highlighting how clean and well-kept the apartment is on arrival.

- Is this a good choice for families or groups

- What should I know about noise

There is a family living upstairs, and you may hear normal family sounds (footsteps, kids playing, stairs) from time to time, and they may hear you. If you prefer a real neighborhood home over a totally silent hotel environment, this will feel like a natural city experience.

Yes, there is reliable wifi and a desk for laptops, and the location is ideal if you need to visit the Capitol, federal buildings, or downtown offices during the day. Business travelers often comment on the combination of convenience and quiet.

- Would guests stay here again

Multiple guests have said that they would “definitely stay here again” on a future DC visit, especially because of the location, cleanliness, and comfort of the space.

- Do you allow early check‑in or late check‑out

We’ll do our best to accommodate when cleaning schedules and same‑day bookings allow; please send a message with your request, and we can confirm closer to your dates.

We had a wonderful stay at Explorers Paradise! Great location with an easy walk to the Capitol building. The unit was better than we expected and perfect for our family of 5. We would stay here again if ever back in DC.

Very clean and great location. Great neighborhood with walkable stores, bars and restaurants. Nice outdoor space to hang out. Tvs were difficult to connect and watch. Wifi wasn't very strong either. Not enough comfortable seating for more than three in the living room. Bathroom doesnt have any counter space. Being nit picky, but these are the facts. Overall, great space!

Three stars overall due mostly to the location & cleanliness. Two stars removed due to some false advertising & overall lack of warmth and concern for fact we were four adults with a toddler. What attracted us to this unit was seemingly friendliness to family with toddler. Not so. When I inquired about a high chair, pack ’n play etc. I was told that these were not offered & where did I get that idea? I sent a screen shot showing that these were offered in the advertisement. The response was that we could rent only the pack ’n play for 25 for the stay. One does not deal with the actual owners, but a service that they hire (City Sweet City). The unit was clean. It was in a prime location behind Capital & Supreme Court. Parking a vehicle was highly inconvenient. Not the fault of the owners. In DC you need to APPLY for a street parking permit. You have to list the make, model & plate number of the vehicle so you can print out the permit to set on the dashboard to street park without getting towed. IF you rent a vehicle as we did you don’t know this information until you pick up the vehicle. This required for us to search out a place where we could print out the parking permit. City Sweet City was not helpful. We were allowed to check in earlier after we asked that morning. Appreciated.Felt that our concerns having a toddler were sort of dismissed, but we were told to understand that a young family lived upstairs who might run around. They did. A LOT.

Wonderful ground floor experience, for a few friends to be together. Everything was provided making this trip super simple to pack clothes for and be comfortable. Very clean property and the beds were comfortable with fantastic sheets. The noise machines provided were used with gratitude. This spot had it all!

Very nice, quiet neighborhood and property. Capitol is very close but that's about it. 10-15 min walk to train, 1 or 2 restaurants in walking distance, 1 corner market. So we had food delivered a few times. Comfortable space for our family of 4.
