Tranquility Base is a place where you can lose yourself in the beauty, peace, and quiet of nature as land, sea and sky meet on rugged midcoast Maine. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS ONE WINDOW AIR CONDITIONER, because very few people on the peninsula have central ac since the water surrounding us greatly moderates the temperature. On those few days when it does get hot, in addition to the window ac unit, we have fans that will help pull the cooler ocean air through the apartment. Mountains beckon on the horizon from your apartment windows, as saltwater laps against giant granite boulders. Summery mountain breezes carry the scent of pine trees and tangy salt air through your window. Nearby lighthouses, museums, antique shops, restaurants, and a range of gourmet to simple general stores entice you. Numerous parks and trails offer opportunities for exploration and exercise, including our own one-mile circle loop through the woods and by the water. Your guest apartment is located just outside the picturesque town of Tenants Harbor. It’s 20 minutes from Rockland, and 30 minutes to Camden. The Portland and Acadia National Parks are each a one hour and 30 minute drive. Canada is only three hours to the north. The Port Clyde General Store, where you can get Lobster Benedict for breakfast, is a brief, beautiful, five minute drive. Kayak rentals can be had there too. The East Wind Inn is close by and offers a delicious lobster dinner. Among the many lighthouses is the famous Marshall Point Light, backdrop in the movie Forrest Gump. Don't miss the best swordfish and local oysters in the world at the award winning Primo Restaurant just 20 minutes away. The area has an epicurean feast of great places to dine.
The apartment is a modern second story walk-up with a full bath, two bedrooms, one with a very comfortable queen size mattress and the other with two twins, a full size antique slate top pool table, an efficiency kitchen with a large microwave and a large convection toaster oven and other small appliances as well as a washer and dryer and full size stainless steel refrigerator with ice and water in the door. Free internet and satellite TV.
It is located on the banks of the salt water St. George River, with lobster traps and boats right out back. Across the salt water river is the Olson Homestead, site of the Andrew Wyeth painting Christina's World, and a museum of his paintings is in nearby Rockland. Bring your hiking gear, and camera with plenty of storage for pictures, and an appetite for fresh Maine cuisine.
In the apartment you will find notebooks with information on local dining, shopping, hiking, boating, museums.
Kayak rentals nearby. Swimming and fishing in the salt water right behind the house are possible. See details that can be found at the end of the amenities section of this listing.
Here is a short list of fun activities that happen nearby every year, which you may want to plan for!

JULY 4TH Almost every town nearby puts on a spectacular display.

ST GEORGE DAYS ST Usually the third long weekend in July. Old fashioned fun for the whole family, including seafood bake, scottish bagpipes, parade through town, and the most spectacular and longest fireworks you will ever see.

NORTH ATLANTIC BLUES FESTIVAL
Annual event in Rockland considered one of the most prestigious on the east coast with an amazing cast of performers has been happening on the Rockland waterfront for a long time.

LOBSTER FEST family fun on the Rockland waterfront includes contests, demos, lobster queen, and parade, and of course lots of lobstah!

UNION FAIR The Union Fair is a great week of family fun and entertainment! Contests, live music, harness racing, the Wine Pavilion, fireworks, the Maine Wild Blueberry Queen Coronation, Demolition Derbys, exhibits, food, demonstrations & shows, the Midway, 4-H, Laser Tag, lots of food.

I had an incredible time staying at Tranquility Base. The apartment was meticulously clean, and the kitchen was well stocked. It wasn’t sure what to expect from the photos however, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw how close the house was to the water. It was absolutely beautiful. My dog, and I especially enjoyed our daily walks around the 1 mile loop on the private road through a beautiful pine forest, with glimpses of the St. George River peeking through the trees. My goal with this trip was to get away from civilization and find peace and quiet, and I was not disappointed. The steps to the apartment are something to consider if you have any issues with stairs as they are fairly steep. If you’re looking for a place to stay, that’s very private and off the beaten path look no further. When I stayed there, no one was in the house next-door and I barely saw any of the neighbors out and about the entire week. The views were absolutely beautiful of the water, and we enjoyed just sitting in the Adirondack chairs, watching the tide come in and out.We enjoyed dinner at McLoons lobster shack on Spruce Head Island, and a takeout dinner from Claws in Rockland. We also visited Owls Head, State Park and lighthouse, as well as the Owls Head general store and the Tenants Harbor General store. We took day trips to Camden and Castine as well, and visited Pemaquid lighthouse on our way home.Stephanie, our host, was very responsive and welcoming. Would absolutely book again!

Had a lovely stay at this house. Very appreciative that it was dog friendly. Check in and check out hours are very accommodating to the host, less so to the guest. An AC was in the listing was not in the residence, the host had deemed it was still too early in the summer. Thankfully the ocean breeze helped keep the house cool for the most part. Really enjoyed the quiet surroundings and the amenities the house had to offer like games, books, and puzzles.

The Apartment was very fresh and in very clean shape. Very private area, not many folks around, at least late Sept. Fabulous view of a Maine bay, couple of boats in the bay, and just awesome watching the tide roll in and out. Great prices on lobster in the area, not far from a ton of great sights. Property manager did an excellent job with us. No stove, but a couple of induction burners that worked just fine with us as well as no dishwasher, but again - no problem. Well supplied with necessities. Internet and tv worked just fine for us.

The house was comfortable. The location is 1mike down a dirt road and the house is right on the water. Very quiet and relaxing. We watched the tides coming and going. Lovely. The pool table was fun The internet worked pretty well. We did stream some movies. We had our kayaks but it was too deep to put in at the house. There’s plenty of places we found to kayak nearby. The bed was comfortable. There is no stove But it worked out fine using the gas grill and the hot plate, microwave and toaster oven. Stephane was helpful and responded quickly. Overall we highly recommend tranquility place

I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Stunning setting. A true slice of Maine coast. Private unpaved road leads up to the property. Adirondack chairs overlook the rocky cove. We saw a wild mink, kingfisher and great blue heron very close to us. Comfy recliners in the apartment give you a spectacular view. Host was very helpful

We loved our stay! The sunsets were so beautiful and we loved eating at the picnic table overlooking the water. I also loved waking up early and drinking coffee while reading and watching the tide come in and out. The internet was fast and reliable for me to work and stream video. And they had an outdoor outlet next to the garage for slow ev car charging.
