Stayed Mar 15, 2026This place is perfect. Very comfortable bed. Super close to the beach. The host Danny is a very good guy. His dog Reef is the nicest dog you’ll meet. If you want to stay away from all the touristy madness and keep it local, this is the perfect place to be. Can’t wait to go back.

Stayed Nov 23, 2025This is a garage suite off the owner's bungalow. Great if you are a surfer boy or maybe an adventurous cheap young couple, but do not bring your bride there. This is NOT A HONEYMOON SUITE. Studio is functional and convenient. Amenities are as seen on pictures. No BBQ. Everything is a bit aged and worn. The place needs some TLC. Communication with the owner was limited. If you need something, you must ask. The owner is not really proactive. However, if you want a surfing lesson, he is your man. Cleanliness was borderline in the garage, which happens to be your private entrance. The inside of the apartment was okay. The (shared) fridge was dirty. Do some research on Makaha before you book. It might be your surfer's dream (great waves), but Makaha has a homelessness problem that may trigger your sense of safety. I wouldn't walk there at night. Even parking your car out of sight feels like a mistake. Half the local beaches and public waterfronts are covered with tent cities and the accompanying liter. Never again. Spend the money and visit the east shore or the north shore.

Stayed Oct 9, 2025This is such a great find! We wanted to stay in a quieter place on Oahu. We found this gem before our trip. Danny was the best host ever. Communicated very well. Set us up with everything we needed. Hooked us up with surf lessons and told us all the tasty places to eat. I can’t recommend this place enough. If you want a quiet place to stay on Oahu on the part of the island where the real culture is, this is the place for you.

Stayed Aug 27, 2022Danny is an amazing host - great communication and recommendations of things to do in the area since he is local. He even saw us off at 5:00am! The bed is comfy, a/c works, clean and the place is a good place to sleep. If you are looking for a place to hang out at the property keep in mind it’s a studio. Great beaches in the area - a swimming beach in walking distance (probably about 3 blocks?). There are some just a short drive that are not busy. The whole area is much quieter than Honolulu/Waikiki. Beach house restaurant great food and hangout on patio by ocean. The counter/kitchenette is in the room. The fridge and a counter type area with stools you could eat on is in the garage. We didn’t use the small patio in the back as we hung out at the beach house restaurant patio until we were ready to hit the hay. Sufficient Quiet room in a quiet neighborhood. Only saw 2 bugs (one of which was dead) during our 3 night stay which I’d say is common for ground floor in the tropics.

Stayed Mar 19, 2026We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful location in Makaha. It was the perfect start to our vacation. You can not ask for more from our host, Danny. He had suggestions for restaurants, hikes, etc. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom/shower had what we needed. The AC worked perfectly and it was very comfortable. The views are incredible with the mountains and ocean so nearby. The location can’t be beat and neither can the hospitality. Danny is the best! We would definitely stay here again if we are ever lucky enough to come back to the beautiful island of Oahu. Mahalo

Stayed Mar 10, 2026Danny was a great host and quick with his communication. The surfers dream studio was very comfortable and clean. I arrived really late (almost midnight) and he was really flexible with me on arriving at that time. I wanted to stay away from the noise and chaos at Waikiki and his location was perfect for me especially with it being close to the beach and a couple of hiking spots. My favorite part is when he had some puakenikeni waiting in the room for me when I arrived. I would definitely recommend Danny's place and would love to stay there again.

Immediately felt like home and unko danny was kind, hospitable, and easy to get in touch with. for those not from the area, mākaha stay pretty far away from a lot of major conveniences and staying in the country does mean the occasional roach inside (canʻt necessarily be prevented) just so you are aware. the studio had everything i needed during my one week. it was a great value and i would stay again.

From the time we landed he was in touch with directions, suggestions, and assistance. He was the perfect amount of helpful and respectful of our time and space. Every place he recommended seeing was amazing and every restaurant he suggested absolutely delicious. The studio itself was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The location was amazing. We were a short walk from a beautiful beach and loved being on the side of the island that kept us away from crowds and tourism. We felt like we got to see and enjoy “real Hawaii”. Stayed May 20, 2025The hosts were very nice and helpful. Our studio apartment was very spacious and clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. It was nothing fancy but that was fine for us. Stayed Jan 21, 2025The host and hostess were so lovely, and requests were greeted with helpfulness. The king-size bed was comfortable. The indoor shower wand was quickly hot and easy to adjust the temperature. We could have subsisted with just a Microwave. Though the electric frying pan exponentially increased our ability to prepare more-nourishing meals. This location is great if surfing, swimming and relaxing on the beach is your pleasure. It is near the best hike on the island at Ka'ena Point State Park. We were early to bed and early to rise during our January stay, as it was hot in the afternoon sun even then.

Stayed Dec 31, 2024This is a quaint room close to the beach. Danny is a very knowledgeable host of places to go for food and surfing. The air conditioner was on, but room was not cool for a few hours after arrival. My husband and I did not personally feel comfortable staying here the whole time we booked because of the locking/entrance arrangements. Understandably, even after discussing the issues we had with the property, we were not refunded any amount of money. Overall, not a bad place. It may have been a better fit for others, just not for us on our honeymoon.

Stayed Dec 28, 2024This is a small, clean, easy accessible studio but really is just set up to be a place to shower & rest. There is no TV so if you're like me & want to watch something to wind down at the end of the day you'll have to use your own phone, iPad, laptop, etc. The host is very kind & friendly & lets you say hi to the dogs if you'd like (which who doesn't love dogs?!). The host let us borrow beach gear & offered surf lessons! My boyfriend took the lessons while I relaxed on the beach & we both enjoyed ourselves a lot! The location is rural, definitely not a tourist part of the island which was a nice change of pace during our stay on Oahu. Overall, it was exactly what we needed just to rest & I would recommend this place to anyone who was looking for something simple.

Stayed Dec 5, 2024Danny is simply wonderful. He was very accommodating and informative. Had I known that was the case, I wouldn’t have spent so much time planning things. His dog, Reef, is there to great you but you never hear him. It’s a quick two block walk to the beach one direction or a 3-4 block walk to a beach in the other direction. Great hikes all around. It’s great if you find a cheap flight to Oahu and don’t want to be anywhere near the city. That being said it is a good 30-40 minute drive to Honolulu. Which for us, was perfect. Danny had a cooler bag for us to use, beach chairs, towels, games, etc. the back patio was the best place to sit and enjoy the evening after showering off the dust and sand from the days hike or beach. Mahalo, Danny!

Stayed Oct 17, 2024Perfect for a functional and comfortable base camp, but don’t expect spotlessness or luxury. Highlights: Danny was a fantastic host, excellent at communication and recommendations. Provided a bunch of free gear for us to use, like snorkeling gear, beach umbrella, beach towel, and beach chairs. Outdoor shower is refreshing, but beware of bugs at night. Room had everything we needed, including hot plate which we used to make breakfast each morning. Comfortable and clean bed. Private patio with great view of large lush backyard and stargazing. Private entrance. AC and fan work great in tandem to keep the room cool. Reef the dog is a highlight. Quiet, local neighborhood. 5-minute walk from stunning beach. Danny hooked us up with well-priced and fun surf lessons. What could have been better: the room was definitely well-worn (instances of water stains, rust, chipped paint, chipped wood, worn caulking, etc.). Blackout curtains would have been nice to keep out the sun, as well as a stronger curtain rod. Some of the provided kitchen amenities had a layer of dust on them, and the instant coffee was well-expired. Keep in mind this is natural Hawaii; you will likely see bugs in the room.

Stayed Jul 23, 2024Most important: From the beginning my partner was killing roaches and I feel terrible because I was dismissive, saying it's like FL, there are roaches that come and go. I didn't look until later and they were German roaches. German roaches are the only kind I would not want to bring home, they are infestation pests unlike other roaches. The last two nights we also saw a mouse. We kept our food closed and on the counter. The mouse seems to be living in the dresser structure. Danny was notified and provided a mouse trap. Danny and his girlfriend were very nice but were nonchalant about the things we noticed, roaches, mouse, things not drying in the bathroom. Communication: Danny texted me the day of check in. He is very communicative and friendly. Location: Quiet, beautiful rocky shore with tide pools behind the neighborhood, walking distance to sandy beach. We liked being away from the major tourist areas. There are many homeless camps nearby. Plan accordingly when exploring the island. Amenities: This room potentially has a ton of amenities! But you will probably need to ask about them. We requested shampoo/conditioner. Washer/dryer is located in Danny's home. Entrance to the room is inside his garage. The room: This room needs updated photos. My partner is very tidy and noted the grout color, bathroom smelled musty, lizard poop on the blinds. He sanitized everything prior to us using it. Danny/his gf were made aware of all of the above during our stay.
