Dartmouth,
There are very few houses you can book which are directly on the waterfront in Dartmouth – Gullsway Boathouse is one of them.
Lower Gullsway forms part of the Gullsway Boathouse which comprises two, self contained, two bedroomed apartments, both listed on this site. Lower Gullsway is on the ground floor with direct access to the water and mooring , whilst Upper Gullsway is located on the first floor, and enjoys its own private balcony. Both properties have spectacular views up and across the river Dart, Kingswear, and the sea beyond. We have had visitors there from 8 weeks old to 80 years. However, there are 90 or so irregular steps down to the apartments from the road, so whilst not suitable for the infirm, it is well worth the effort for the fantastic views, waterside views, and exclusive location.
Lower Gullsway is a recently refurbished ground floor waterside apartment. It has an open plan sitting room, dining area and kitchen. It is very well equipped, with high speed wifi, fitted kitchen, a new 43 inch smart TV with all the modern viewing apps. There is a wood burning stove to give you that cosy relaxing evening.
Wonderful location and views - the apartment has stunning direct views over the estuary, and a beautiful newly refurbished terrace to allow you to fully enjoy your stay on the water’s edge. The apartment has direct access to the estuary and the sea with its own steps to the water and a running mooring for those who wish to use a boat up to 4.2m. Dartmouth is just 7 minutes’ walk to the very centre of town. It is an amazing town, full of history, culture and events. It is a great base for exploring Devon's many attractions.
The front door open directly from the terrace into the wood effect tiled open plan living area. Glass doors lead to the rear of the property where you will find doors to the bedrooms, bathrooms and utility room. At the front of the spacious living area are doors and windows offering unrestricted, panoramic, estuary and sea views. The doors and windows fill the room with light and offer access to the terrace with sun loungers and rattan table and chairs, so you can fully enjoy the waterside experience. Here you can relax and watch the ever changing water traffic and keep an eye out for the dolphins and seals which are regular visitors. There’s crab lines and nets round the side you can use. You will catch dozens of crabs, and often Gerald the gobi fish – all you need is a bit of bait – the smellier the better!
The lounge area has two sofas, smart TV with DVD, coffee tables and subtle lighting for a relax in the evenings. There is a dining table that comfortably seats six.
The kitchen has a large fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, oven, hob, microwave, kettle and toaster. There is undercounter mood lighting.
To the rear you will find the refurbished master and twin bedrooms. The master bedroom has a kingsize bed, large fitted wardrobes and access to the grotto and fairy garden. The twin room is of a similar size with similar views and with fitted wardrobes. The single beds can be joined to form a kingsize on request. The family bathroom has a bath, separate shower , WC and basin. There is a separate shower room with WC with wash basin.
We provide a free parking pass to our guests for use in the local town car parks and park and ride. Parking can also be found near the property on the road above but it can be very busy in the summer months, and also has summer time restrictions. Guests usually just leave their cars, free, for their stay in the town car park. Warfleet, which is a 10 minute walk towards the castle at the estuary entrance, has free roadside parking.
Lovely modern, clean and spacious two bedroom apartment right on the edge of the Dart River estuary. Easy walk to the town centre. Lots of steps, but with handrails provided it was no problem, and we weren't in a hurry. Once we figured out the parking and unloading our bags there was no problem. The free parking in the town centre was very useful. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Amazing stay absolutely gorgeous property
Such an amazing view, you could watch all day, yet close to all the shops and restaurants and beautiful Ancient Dartmouth. It’s like you are on the river itself, but you need stamina and strong legs to reach the boathouse, not for the faint hearted.
Absolutely gorgeous stay, comfy beds, clean linen and beautifully furnished. Great communication from both owner and the cleaning team. 90 plus steps but absolutely worth it. Had the most wonderful sunrises. Simply perfect
Property is lovely with everything you need. Lovely views from the front terrace. It's a climb up and down the steep steps to the property so any less abled unfit person would struggle. Close to restaurants and shops.
Lovely location with a sun terrace onto the river. Beware of the steps - 95 in total. Not for the faint hearted but worth the climb. If I were to be picky the property lacked some basic amenities that I would have expected to be provided (toilet roll, complimentary bathing products, BBQ). The host was wonderful, a couple of small issues which are common in older properties were quickly resolved.
Exceptional, modern, fantastic property. Stayed in ground floor and it was superb! As stated in description and other reviews you must be aware of the approx 100 steps which take you down to the waters edge- well worth it but you need to consider this carrying your holiday gear, but really highly recommended!
Quality accommodation in a unique position. Spotlessly clean and lovely linen on comfortable beds. Amazing views of the estuary and a really well designed apartment where it is obvious that a lot of thought and care has gone into all the furnishing and equipment. You could not fault it they had thought of everything and there is excellent detailed information on all the equipment there. We were nice and cosy too with good central heating and comfy sofas which is something I have found lacking in other places; this was so welcome as we did not have great weather. We had the best time and will return again soon. It is worth noting that there are a lot of steep steps down to the apartment but it is well worth the effort though unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues. We will return! Thank you for a great stay
We stayed in the lower flat over an amazingly sunny Easter weekend and didn't get in the car again until leaving day. We relaxed and enjoyed the views, and made the most of the outside space (crabbing at high tide, skimming stones at low tide, sitting and watching the boats go back and forth). We also had some lovely walks along the coast. The flat was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Thank you! : )
Our second stay at this amazing apartment. Views across the Dart and out to estuary just fabulous as ever. Comfortable and warm and everything you need for a wonderful holiday. Loved the kitchen, the two large comfy sofas, loved the hot powerful showers, loved the huge fluffy white bath towels. Nothing not to like really. Only difficult part was the amount of steps up and down..but oh so very well worth the effort. Thanks once again .
