Stayed Jan 1, 1We had an amazing stay in the shepherds hut. Beautifully decorated and just enough space for everything. Heating kept the place cosy and underfloor heating was a bonus. Also do have the log fire which is a nice touch. The weather wasn’t great when we stayed so we didn’t get to use the outside area but I imagine it would be great sitting there or in the hammock during nicer weather. The bed was super comfy too. Only thing of note is the lapwing is further away from the car than curlew. Not a huge distance but it was dark and quite muddy underfoot when we arrived, probably would have chosen curlew if I had known this.

Stayed Jan 3, 1Spent a couple of nights here again at the Shepherds hut at Tulliemet. Did a lovely walk up on the moors and spent a wonderful day at Blair Castle and its beautiful grounds. Have been there many times and never tire of it.

Stayed Jan 1, 1Had a great stay! Yvonne/staff were very responsive to any additional things we needed. The hut was quiet and had everything we needed. If only it didn’t rain so much so that we could use the fire pit more!

Stayed Jan 1, 1Beautiful Glen views from a very comfortable campfire make more a very relaxing retreat. The cabin its self is extremely comfortable, well equipped and clean. It is a very pleasurable and cosy space if the weather is inclement! The location is ideal for a real isolated retreat ✨️

Stayed Jan 1, 1Lapwing was just amazing. The setting was idyllic and we loved being surrounded by nothing other than nature and wildlife. We saw an Osprey, lapwing, badgers, deer and heard a cuckoo along with owls. The shepherd's hut was spotlessly clean, fully equipped and very luxurious. The bed was very comfortable and we loved waking up to the beautiful views.

Stayed Jan 1, 1The Lapwing Shepherds Hut at Atholl Estate didn't just meet our expectations; it absolutely shattered even our highest ones! This gem is in a truly perfect location: an easy two-hour drive from Edinburgh and just a short ride to charming towns like Pitlochry, Dunkeld, and Perth. It's wonderfully remote enough to offer unparalleled tranquility, yet perfectly close to amenities for comfort and exploration. The hut itself was far more comfortable than we'd anticipated. Despite its compact size, it felt perfectly adequate, especially since you have acres of private space right outside your door. The water was hot and the shower pressure great, and even at 6'4, I can confirm the bed provided the most comfortable sleep we've had in ages. We enjoyed absolute privacy; save for a neighbor about 20 meters away and some sheep nearby, we had practically no one for company, which was exactly what we desired for our city escape. Beyond the hut, the location serves as an excellent basecamp for both invigorating hikes and scenic drives. We embarked on a stunning loop drive up to Killin, Glen Coe, Fort William, and Ben Nevis, stopping at the House of Bruar and Blair Atholl Castle on the way back – a thoroughly satisfying circuit of around six hours maximum driving. Inside the hut, the fridge, kettle, hob, and oven are perfect for preparing any meal you fancy. We initially stayed for only four nights but could easily have stayed, and desperately wanted to stay, for significantly longer. This is unequivocally the one place I'm certain I'll return to before long. It receives my most enthusiastic recommendation! A quick tip for future visitors: If you're renting a vehicle, opt for one with some ground clearance for the path leading up to the huts. We managed with an extremely low-slung coupe but had to be much slower and more careful than ideal. Any SUV would navigate it perfectly.

Stayed Jan 1, 1Booked the Lapwing shepherds hut for a surprise break for my Mrs birthday, we both love to be out in the countryside amongst nature and the huts location is perfect overlooking stunning countryside. The hut itself was spotlessly clean and very cosy, warm in the evening and with a very comfortable king size bed, and everything needed for our stay. The house keeper was lovely and made sure we had everything we needed, all in all a truly wonderful break, excellent service, value for money and location, will definitely be back next year !

Stayed Jan 1, 1Lapwing shepherds hut is a lovely little place for anyone wishing to escape for a few days. The huts are very isolated with the most beautiful views over the valley. Inside we found everything we could need for the few nights we stayed. The log burner was great and a nice touch to have it all ready just to light when we got there but made the hut far too hot and we had to open the windows and doors. Nice big fluffy towels and heated towel rail was a treat on the cold mornings, even the view from the loo was lovely!! Bed was comfy and the pillows good. Place was immaculate and I could not fault it. Only grip was walking from the car to the hut is on uneven ground which was slippy as it had been damp and this could be a hazard… an even hardcore path would be much nicer. Will definitely stay again.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969The shepherds hut lived up to expections. It has everything you need - underfloor heating, shower, hot water, oven, fridge, etc. It's amazing how much can fit into such a small place. The location is stunning. The only thing missing is wifi, which probably seems a bit ridiculous, but I was staying on my own at the end of October and it got dark by about 5, so I was using my laptop to watch a film or two and it quickly used all of my data. Much as I loved the place, I wouldn't stay on my own at this time of year again. The nights were too long, dark and quiet for me in such an isolated location, but that's not a criticism of the place. I would love to stay again, but if I was on my own I'd do it in the summer.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Stayed in the Lapwing shepherd’s hut twice now and we absolutely love it. We’ll definitely be back again. Such a nice spot and the hut has everything you need and it’s presented so well. Especially like having the maps of the local area to be able to plan walks etc. A really simple thing but so convenient. It’s such a peaceful and secluded spot. Sitting outside with the fire pit is just perfect. 10/10

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Everything we needed for a comfortable stay in an amazing location. We really appreciated the cosy touches and quality of the fittings. The hammock and outdoor seating was a bonus. We tried a couple of the recommended walks and enjoyed exploring the area around the hut. Would recommend stocking up with basic supplies at Ballinluig before heading up the hill as the drive is long and uneven in places.
