Modica, Sicilia
Elegant and exclusive apartments (Romeo and Juliet), rented for short or long periods, in the heart of the historic center of Modica (Corso Umberto I), a city famous worldwide for the Baroque protected by UNESCO and for chocolate !! An advantageous alternative to the small hotel room, a real opportunity to combine the exclusivity of an unparalleled location between delicious local restaurants and sumptuous artistic beauties of the Renaissance Baroque, UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This charming apartment has high quality finishes and two separate rooms which leads to two lovely balconies (lined with hand-painted Caltagirone majolica) that will allow you to enjoy the enchanting mountain of Monserrato from the heart of the historic center of Modica. With a nice table and two chairs you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner outdoors, on the rooftops of Modica, a real treat! The bathroom is made of "porcelain stoneware", has modern sanitary ware, a hairdryer and a large mosaic shower cabin equipped with a large steel showerhead to enjoy relaxing showers.
This apartment is truly charming. The only caveat is that the beams in the kitchen and one side of the bedroom are low so caution required if you are tall. The building is beautiful and located in the Bassa part of the historic centre. Convenient to all the major sites and easy to day trip from. The town itself is not too touristy and the locals are kind and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
One of the best apartments we stayed in during our vacation. It is spacious, well-equipped, modern and spotless. The location, in the historical center of Modica, is ideal to explore the Val di Noto late baroque towns. Parking was not an issue, the city's parking app works fine and the rates are low. There are plenty of restaurants and food stores within walking distance. We would definitely stay there again.
We loved this apartment and we loved Modica. The apartment and all dishes/pans/appliances/utensils were immaculate and of excellent quality. Modica is great fun to walk in, and a good place to base yourself. There are 60 steps from street level to the apartment. From the living room are 2 steps down into the kitchen and two steps up to the bedroom and bathroom. There are no steps between the bathroom and bedroom. Steps did not bother us at all and Lorenzo helped carry our luggage up and down. Two things startled us. At the end of our stay, we were charged for electricity--a nominal amount of 38 Euros for a 5 night stay, but a surprise to us. I see no mention of this in the listing and we have never had that happen before. Also we were charged a 1.5 Euro per person tourist tax, instead of the 1 Euro per person stated in the listing. .
The building is old and charming on the outside and totally modern, clean and comfortable inside. Tastefully furnished and well equipped. The location is ideal for walking around Modica Bassa, restaurants, shopping and sight seeing. Many beautiful churches are close by. Lorenzo was more than helpful. He arranged for us a private cooking demonstration in a nearby restaurant that was fabulous. A great experience all around.
This apartment is a big step above most rentals (and I mean world-wide, not just Sicily): cleverly designed, not a penny spared for furnishings and fixtures, charming and cheerful, well-equipped, good Wi-Fi. The building itself is gorgeous as well, and very well maintained. The location is perfect to explore Modica/Modica Alta, and its environs. We spent 3 nights here and could have easily stayed longer. We never had trouble finding a space at the free parking lot which Francesco had recommended (a 5-10 minute walk away). Between car park and apartment there is a small Carrefour supermarket and a wonderful fresh produce store. No matter which direction you walk in, there are many restaurants nearby. Francesco was prompt in replying to my e-mails and pleasant to deal with. Graziana who checked us in and out was sweet, professional, and always on time, which is important if you don't have many days at your disposal. The apartment's little terrace is lovely for breakfast and/or cocktail hour. There are frequent church bells - part of the charm of staying in Modica. We loved exploring the maze of little streets and alleys around us, admiring the baroque architecture. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting Noto and Ragusa Ibla as well, but were happy we'd chosen Modica as our place to stay overnight. One day we went for a swim in the sea at Stampieri, busy of course on a mid-summer Sunday, but we still managed to find a quiet spot for a quick dip and dry. I'd read in some blogs and comments that Modica is a real foodie town, but although we had some decent meals, I think this label is a bit of a stretch, unless you count chocolate and ice cream as food. All-over Sicily, we didn't find it so easy to find the amazing food I'd heard and read so much about. I'm very into the raw fish and seafood thing and Modica is not the place for that. Anyway, this prompted me to cook up a lovely meal in our kitchen making us enjoy the apartment even more. All in all a great stay and a true steal at its price. We'd stay at Juliet again in a heartbeat and as far as Modica is concerned, 3 nights was really the minimum, one more would have been good.
We were staying 4 nights in March. The location is ideal, very central and close to everything but very quiet at night. The apartment is new, spacious, clean and very well equipped. The view of the ancient monuments of the city and surrounding area is magnificent and it seems that we are looking at a great painting when we are comfortably seated on the sofa. We have never been in Modica before, but we were very lucky with the apartment because it has a great location and is surrounded by many charming streets and things to see. The owner, Francesco is friendly and helpful, made us check in by e-mail, and contacted us during our stay to make sure that everything was going well. Sure this will be a great part of our nostalgia for Sicily.
“The apartment in Modica is one of the most stylish we have ever stayed in. The furnishings are gorgeous, it’s filled with light, the terrace is a delight and you get a lovely view over the city skyline. We would go back there in an instant. The owners, Francesco and Adriana were absolutely lovely and went out of their way to be helpful. Thank you so much for a fabulous stay and we hope to visit again. Jo & Tammy, London. Dec’ 2013.
