Stayed Feb 15, 2025We had a fantastic stay in February at Casa Santa Croce. A fabulous, cosy, spacious apartment which was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. It was in a great location just over ten minutes walk to the station and we loved watching the world go by from the windows. Very comfortable beds and plenty of comfy seats and sofas in the living area were appreciated for the winter evenings. The apartment was lovely and warm when needed and easy to control the temperature. We felt very relaxed and at home. The communication before and during our stay was excellent. The online guidebook was so helpful before we arrived and Elizabeth made us feel very welcome and was very helpful with all aspects of our stay. A few more cups, glasses and bowls would be useful- we didn't bother using the dishwasher as we needed those items for the next meal but only a tiny issue and wouldn't be a problem if eating out for every meal.

Stayed Oct 14, 2024Casa Santa Croce apartment is in a perfect location and we loved the large rooms and outlook from our windows. We loved to open the windows to let in sunshine and fresh air and look out on the piazza below. We loved everything about this apartment except for the stairs which can be somewhat problematic for people our age with some health issues and when we have our large luggage bags. We had to pay to get our luggage transported up and down the stairs as this was impossible for us to do. Overall we were most satisfied with our stay and wished we could have stayed in this apartment longer. We were very impressed with Lucca apartments and Villas staff who helped meet any other needs along the way. Nothing was too great a problem and they always responded promptly to any calls. Grazie Mille to you all. It would be helpful to inform future guests of the stairs in advance.

Stayed Apr 18, 2024My spouse & I stayed in this charming apartment. It is very roomy and plenty of space for 4 people. The washer & dyer are a bonus. The kitchen is outfitted nicely, though we did not cook much, mostly just breakfast at the house. The bathroom is not a bad size for 2 people but the shower is tiny by American standards. Not really room to bend over and wash your hair easily. The drain in the bathroom sink had a funky smell, but the building is very old! We didnt have any trouble climbing the stairs (no elevator) but be warned, it's about 40 steps to the apartment. It looks out on a piazza and the Church of Saint Mary Foris Portam. The street right outside the front door, via Santa Croce, seems to be a main route for busses and folks walking home late at night. Meaning- it gets quite loud at night. That was the biggest downside for us. There are loads of restaurants very close by. A grocery-Conad city is a 6 minute walk. And visit the wine shop just steps from the apartment- Vineria Dolce Vita. The owner is friendly and knowledgeable and prices are reasonable

Stayed Dec 27, 2023Incredible place! Easy walk to train station; Clean, spacious, comfortable beds, very useful kitchen with spices and oils, comfortable living space, good sunlight, beautifully decorated. Absolutely perfect for my family of 4 (two teens). Everyone in my family was so impressed I scored such a lovely place. We stayed in December and it was a very pleasant temperature inside even with heat low, never too cold. Management was great, communicative and gave us all the info we needed upon check in. There is a very good restaurant just downstairs that is perfect after a long day of site seeing. The washer and dryer are new and worked well. The only little and very minor is that it can get a little noisy from people walking under the window late at night (you are on 3rd level). We were so tired we didn’t care and kind of enjoyed hearing happy people walk by, but if you are a light sleeper brining earplugs would help. I suspect happy people are talking and laughing all over Lucca late at night during the holidays though so just enjoy it!

Stayed Nov 14, 2023This is a large apartment (probably too large for two!) located near a small piazza and only a block from where friends were staying. It was an easy walk to wherever we wanted to explore. We greatly enjoyed the sounds of school children playing while waiting for school to begin. Our heat had not been properly turned on during check in. However, the property manager was very quick to correct the issue. The apartment was very enjoyable and comfortable. Having a washer and dryer is always a plus. As mentioned in the write up, this apartment does not have an elevator. Although it is listed as being on the second floor, it is actually on the third floor. In Italy, the first floor is considered zero. The stairs were only an issue upon arrival; fortunately we knew what to expect and we travel light. The ground floor entryway and front door would benefit from a fresh coat of paint and a little love to make them more welcoming. These were minor issues that certainly did not impact our stay at this lovely apartment.

Stayed Aug 28, 2023Cannot say enough about Santa Croce apartment. The only warning I have is there are 42 steps up to the front door - but it’s Italy so most of us come expecting to walk a lot. Location was perfect - 5-minute walk to the train station and everything inside Lucca’s walls was at arm’s reach! Torre Guinigi is just around the corner and the Piazza Anfiteatro was a five minute stroll. The apartment was immaculate! The kitchen was adorable and has everything you’d need (we only used the fridge and the washing machine, but it has everything for a longer stay.) Bed was firm but comfortable and the extra blankets were so soft! The AC worked well and the windows brought in a TON of natural light if you open the shutters. The bathroom was well appointed with tub and separate shower. You will hear some drain gurgling from the tub when you run the shower or sink but I attributed that to the fact that the building was hundreds of years old. There was no extra toilet tissue (may have been an oversight because the other amenities were plenty.) Lucca Apartments has their own line of toiletries and the soap and shampoo were very appreciated to get us started after a long journey to Italy! (We had been delayed and canceled so this was our first “home” in three days and we were exhausted - Santa Croce had everything we needed and we are so grateful!) There is an iron, iron board and hairdryer, so leave those at home! Everything was perfect and we will stay again when we return to Lucca.
