Set in an elevated spot in Llanaber, just outside Barmouth, Morwendon House is a beautifully renovated, boutique-style holiday home offering a comfortable and stylish base for larger families or groups. Sleeping up to 10 guests across five thoughtfully designed bedrooms, the house has been finished to a high standard throughout, blending period features with modern touches. The spacious kitchen/diner is well equipped for sociable meals, while two separate living areas provide plenty of room to relax, whether that’s gathering or finding a quiet corner. Upstairs, several bedrooms enjoy far-reaching views, including a standout master room with a freestanding bath perfectly positioned to take in the sea beyond. Outside, a generous terrace and balcony make the most of the setting, offering a lovely spot for morning coffee or evenings watching the sunset. The location strikes a great balance between coast and countryside. Llanaber itself is a peaceful spot, with a wide sandy beach just a short stroll away, often quieter than neighbouring stretches and ideal for long walks or a paddle. From here, you can follow the coastline into Barmouth, around a 5-minute drive or a scenic walk, where you’ll find a traditional seaside town with a welcoming feel. There’s a good selection of independent shops, cafés and restaurants, along with a bustling harbour and expansive beach backed by dunes.

For those who enjoy the outdoors, this part of Gwynedd is hard to beat. The Mawddach Trail, popular with walkers and cyclists, offers miles of traffic-free paths with beautiful estuary views, while the nearby Rhinog Mountains provide more rugged terrain for experienced hikers. Further inland, southern Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park opens up even more opportunities, including the well-known Cadair Idris, around a 20-minute drive away.

A little further up the coast, Harlech is worth a visit for its impressive castle and sweeping beach, while the surrounding area is dotted with pretty villages, scenic drives and hidden coves. Whether you’re looking for a traditional seaside break, an active holiday exploring the mountains, or simply somewhere to unwind and take in the views, Morwendon House makes a great base at any time of year.
