Washington,
Walk everywhere from this spacious first-floor (English basement) apartment with a separate entrance. It is located in Shaw, historic neighborhood, which is central from the nightlife and restaurants of Shaw, Bloomingdale, 14th Street, and Chinatown and just a few blocks from the Convention Center. Metro is about a 10-minute walk. This 2 bedroom/1 bathroom unit is great for individuals, couples, business travelers, and families. It includes access to a full kitchen as well as a washer and dryer.
This lovely apartment can comfortably sleep six people. There are queen beds in each of the two bedrooms and a pullout couch in the living room for additional sleeping arrangement. All beds have European-style sheets (fitted sheet on the bottom and a duvet cover on the top). The bedrooms are far apart so each set of occupants have plenty of privacy. There is a plethora of street parking around the apartment.
Two blocks from where our son lives. It was not fancy, but very clean and exactly as advertised. We will try to stay again when we go back. A Keurig would be a nice addition.
Great location in an area of beautiful historical brick homes close to Capitol, White house, museums and more. Good restaurants very close to flat. It is a basement apartment so lighting is somewhat limited. Noise from upper flat was an issue at times.
The property host was amazing. The property is close to two different metro stations and many restaurants and coffee shops. Check in and out was easy. However, you should note that there is no coffee maker - it’s an espresso machine, no toaster, the carpets in the bedrooms are very dirty, and the rats are huge - especially at night when the walkway to the door is poorly lit. Some of these things the host can control, some not, so not huge issues. But note, if you want to go to bed early or sleep in late, bring earplugs which will dampen the noise from above. The earplugs will help with the noise, but not with the vibrations from the ceiling. Overall good experience.
The place was just as in the photos, but what you can't see in the photos was how clean it was. Mother-In-Law-coming-to-visit level of clean. The beds were soft. The one in the bedroom with dark wood had a solid foam mattress and the other was a regular bed. The location was great. We'd had e-scooters delivered and it was less than a mile to the mall. We were far enough out that parking was easy, but close enough that it was easy to get to the tourist stuff. The entrance is just a little inside an alley. Parking on the street just outside the alley was always available. Since parking was so easy, we used our car more than I'd planned. That the washer/dryer was combined in one unit was an initial shock. We arrived midway through a two-week trip so had a lot of dirty clothes. But after we got used to it, it was nice. Our selections made the load take 3 hours. But, since it also dried the clothes it wasn't a problem for them to sit in there. So, we'd start a load before we left every day. There was everything we needed in the kitchen. I brought own soap, but it was there also.
We enjoyed being fairly close to the capital area and a little over 1/2 mile to hop on a subway. Many food options and a grocery store within walking distance. We really only spent nights in the apartment, but everyone seemed to sleep well! Everything was clean and ready for us.
Perfect location and very clean. Host was very hospitable!
This was a super clean place and conveniently located close to all I wanted to see. The alley entrance made it easier to be able to drive right up and drop off luggage and out for a quick exit. It was a bit frustrating at times finding parking but then no one should rent a car in DC.! Kamala was a great host and let us check out a bit later after my father took a spill out by the steps. We would definitely stay here again!
The inside of the house was okay but having to walk through rats in a ally with no outside lights was scary. There was no heat in the restroom or main living area.
It may be a basement apartment, but it had everything my family needed for a home base during a long weekend in DC.
Nice basement apartment not far from The Mall. Convenient to walk or try public transportation. My family enjoyed our stay (2 adults, 3 kids). Careful if you're over 6 ft tall. And read all parking signs.
