I would have loved the stay rather than a mouse eating through our food on the first night.
We liked the privacy of the property. The sauna was a nice amenity to enjoy after a long day of hiking.
The Mökki cabin was a breath of air and a wonderful getaway. Bathing in the sauna was unexpectedly refreshing, be sure to keep the sauna steamy while you wash up! The cabin is a stroll away from the historic Hovland dock which is great for fishing or watching the sunset. Will definitely be back!
My 14 yr old and his friend said “ this place just feel like home”… warm, cozy, glamping in a way.. thank you
Property is exactly as described, if the listing sounds good to you and you know what you are getting into then I would highly recommend. The cabin was cozy with the gas stove giving off plenty of heat but the sauna was the highlight for me. Going back and for between the sauna and sitting outside in the falling snow is magical. Great communication with the host and the space had plenty of thoughtful amenities (rags, cleaning supplies, ziplocks, etc..) Would recommend!
Great stay away from the distractions of the city life. Enjoyed the sauna, lake walks and hiking in the snow!
We enjoyed a peaceful stay. It was fun to take away some of the things we are used to and just enjoy the simple things. Beautiful area. We enjoyed the sauna! Only downfall was the road noise. We definitely would return.
Mokki is a simple and love filled experience. We missed a view of the “superior lake from our window but was pleased to have the Hovland Dock just moments walk away.
We stayed the first weekend in May, 2022. The cabin is in the perfect spot as a base for day hiking the upper SHT sections with two cars. That was our plan but we will have to try again, the trail was too muddy. We did enjoy a few of the other trails in the area though. Be careful on the icy and soft forest roads!!! The cabin stays really warm, especially if you cook with the stove. Great for cooler temperatures, not sure how it would feel in the heat of summer, it has no AC. The Sauna was nice. It got warm, but not steamy for us. Our fire skills are not the best. I really enjoyed the simplicity of everything and the use of solar power for the lights inside the cabin! If you do not like the quiet 100% of the time, download a movie(s) and/or bring some music. Verizon doesn’t get service north of Grand Marais. I did get one bar just down from Judge CR Magney State Park, on road 59. Enough to call home to check in.
This place was amazing, but there is no refrigerator as stated in the listing and shown in the photos. You should change this info! We did not come up with enough ice to keep our food in the cooler, and had to drive up to Grand Portage to get some. Our trip was not to be derailed by this detail though - it was a beautiful stay! We'll be back sometime for sure.
Great stay if you can handle being off the grid and without power or running water. Sauna jump in Lake Superior, repeat. After long hikes, this stay was great. Chicago Bay general store had all we needed. So quiet and easy to disconnect.
Loved the experience of staying in this beautiful off grid property! The cabin has everything you need and is conveniently located near Lake Superior. Highly recommended!
