The unit was very clean and the hosts, who live in the adjacent building, are very friendly. We enjoyed sitting on the porch in the evening, and listening to the loons calling on the lake. This is a delightful place.

Awesome views of lake, woods, mountains and sky. Second floor apartment was homey, well stocked, comfortable and peaceful. Homemade banana bread was a sweet treat!

We went on this vacation to get away and destress but when we arrived we found a “for sale” sign on the property along with a storage rental box. When we asked about it and Ken said they needed to be out of the place in two weeks and good riddance. It was under contract. My husband offered to help. Ken had friends staying with them to help with moving. This made us feel uncomfortable but we just let it go and tried to enjoy our time and the rental we paid for. The next morning I went to make coffee and there was an old moldy filter in the coffee maker and the coffee pot wasn’t washed. I just thought they were stressed with moving and forgot about it so I cleaned it out and it was fine. I wouldn’t let it sway my review of the place but in conjunction with what is to follow I think it’s worth to point out. The next day we left the rental in the afternoon for about an hour to get groceries. We have two, small dogs who must have been barking at the noises of people moving stuff in the garage which our rental was above. This was the only time we left them. Instead of Ken just coming to us and talking to us about it. They taped an angry note in all caps on the door and as we pulled into the driveway they immediately pulled out. I messaged them apologizing about the barking and said the dogs have been with us and will continue to be with us and sorry we went out to get groceries and it won’t happen again. I got no response. The wifi was not working and since we are not from around the region we really struggled getting directions or looking up hikes. My husband went to talk to Ken about it. He was with a realtor at that time. Told him wifi in the town was down since last week. We just wish he had communicated this to us early on so we could plan for it but it wasn’t a big deal and we managed fine but I think the listing should communicate that the wifi is not reliable. The next day they had a yard sale on the property. They never communicated this to us. I understand they were stressed about moving but they could have just canceled our booking the week earlier and refunded us. We left the rental a night early. Barton is a beautiful place. The lake and mountains are stunning. We saw deer, minks, a black bear crossing the street. The sky and water are so blue and clear. We ate at Parson’s Dinner House which was such a special and wonderful place. We’d love to come back to this region just not this rental.

We had a fantastic 4 night stay at Ken and Sherry’s. Thank you for hosting us, we couldn’t get bored of the view. The apartment is super clean, well equipped and was perfect for a family of three with a baby. We appreciated the boat house and the canoe and also the banana bread which was delicious. Thank you again.

Sherry and Ken's place was spotlessly clean and they were spotlessly friendly and thoughtful. Ha! Add to that you get several pieces of the best banana bread I've ever had and 3 delicious cookies. She's good! I feel they might be new at this, with a few small pieces missing. They need a bit more basic information about things like trash disposal and areas of interest for those new to the area. We aren't and were very entertained but a newcomer might need more specific information. The location was lovely but access to the lake is very limited, requiring a long set of stairs. That might be just fine for most, but we never attempted it. The popular town beach is about a quarter a mile away so you will certainly get access to beautiful Lake Willoughby. Lovely people and lovely stay.

We loved our stay and would have been happy to stay longer to enjoy the location and apartment which had everything we needed. The place was larger than the pictures showed and charming. Extra special touches with a comfortable bed, sheets, pillows, and plush towels and dog friendly cover on the sofa. Sherry has a knack for decorating and baking. Best banana bread was a treat! Ken and Sherry are great hosts!

No easy lake access from the house, but two fine beaches nearby. Great, genuinely warm hosts. All-in-all, a fine experience.
