A wonderful vacation was enhanced by our stay in this lovely and wonderfully situated apartment. The apartment is spacious, clean, comfortable and managed by a most accommodating host.
We will be talking about Lucca and our host Clare for years. Clare was always available for suggestions regarding day trips and restaurants. We arrived during a European heat wave. The Lucca wall is 1 block away from the apartment. Our morning and evening walks on the shaded wall were a great relief from the heat. So many restaurants to walk to with fantastic fresh food. We had dinner with Clare 1 night outside the city wall. Clare's suggestion, Pasta tossed In a giant cheese wheel. Yum. Now we are back in the USA. I know we will be keeping in touch with our new friend Clare.
We had a wonderful stay in Lucca with our family. The apartment is fantastic- plenty of space, beautiful and historic. Clare was a fantastic host. She met us at the train station and helped us to get acclimated. Lucca was a great first international trip for a young family. Our children are 4 and 2 and this was the perfect balance. We will be back. Lucca is a great launching point to visit other places, and is not overly touristy. The history is amazing, particularly if you’re from someplace with only a few hundred years of settlement. We could have spent another week here, easily.
A spotless, spacious wonderfully equiped apartment right in the centre of this fantastic city. The rooms are large, airy and stylish, the beds are very comfortable and the apartment is in a quiet area. The train station is just a short walk through the city wall. Clare is a wonderful host approachable and knowledgeable A brilliant choice for our month stay.
The apartment was very impressive. An excellent mix of tasteful furniture and fittings in a wonderful historic building. The apartment was very clean and the beds comfortable. The high ceilings and tall windows gave a bright airy feel to the property; a perfect match for the elegant city of Lucca. The position was ideal, a short walk to the central area of Lucca yet quiet and secluded for a relaxing stay. Clare was a wonderful host who provided excellent information about the apartment and the many attractions of Lucca. She has lived in Lucca for many years and was very knowledgable about the city and surrounding area. We enjoyed a very happy stay.
Property was lovely, parking a little bit difficult
When images of our 3 week trip to Italy pops into my head, it is this living/dining area that I see. Strange, since we saw such spectular sites and had great adventures, but the brightness and spaciousness of this apartment is my first memory. As 2 couples, 70+, we had already done apartments in Rome and Florence with great success, but Clare provides a comfortable setting and every amenity. It is quiet and well located, but no elevator, so be prepared to go up two flights of stairs, plus another if you use the garage. Clare was a terrific host and even joined us for a glass of wine one night at a local cafe -- such fun !! As noted before, a great cafe is a half block away and we used it every morning; plus all of the walled city is steps away. We had a car, so the garage was a bonus, but you don't need it to see Lucca. We did drive to Pisa, and stopped for lunch at Il Porto in Varrezio on the Mediterranean. Do it if you can. We had planned to take the train to Cinque Terre, but it appeared to complicated, even for us seasonend travelers, so we drove to Levanto and took the train from there. Cinque Terre was hot and crowded, and my recommendation at this point is that you can skip it and not miss a thing. It is especially not workable for anyone with a handicap since it is literally hillside and all steps. Stay and enjoy Lucca. We found after tourist clogged Rome and Florence, we loved Lucca, and if we went back to Italy, we would skip the first two cities and head for the smaller towns like Lucca. Two things to note in this apartment; first the master bath, which is roomy and bright, has a tub with a shower head, not a shower stall. The second bathroom is much smaller and has a shower stall. Do remember that Europeans do not provide washcloths, so bring your own. Second, Clare recommended that we only use the washer/dryer combo on the first floor to wash, and not dry. Since she lives in the apartment in the winter, she knows from experience. We chose to skip laundry and wait until we got to Bellagio. If I went back to Lucca, Clare would be my first call, you can't beat this apartment.
I recently stayed at Libertas with my husband and we found it- excellent! Often rental places are furnished with rag-tag leftovers. This place was gorgeous, spotless and very tastefully furnished with purpose-bought pieces and real art. Even the knives and pots and pans were top quality. The internet connection is fibre optic and very fast and reliable so getting some work done was easy. There is also a brand new smart TV so we could even watch our our Apple TV from abroad. Not to mention what a convenience the garage was. Libertas might look more expensive than other places, but you get what you pay for. This place is well worth it!
Our 2+ week stay in Lucca was absolutely wonderful. The apartment was beautiful, clean and had all the comforts of home. The location was quiet yet close to everything with Luccas best bakery right around the corner. Clare went way beyond the usual as a host. She met us at the train station, spent time showing us around the apartment, gave us many tips on where to go, where to eat, and where to shop. She even picked us up when we left and explained to the bus driver where we should be left off. Just a super guide. We hope to return to Lucca and we will certainly stay in Libertas when we do.
Clare's apartment was beautifully appointed. The historic building was ideally situated. The city of Lucca was extraordinarily civilized. The food of Lucca will mark a highpoint in your dining experiences. There is much to see and do and you will be drawn out to be a part of the city's life. Clare was the perfect host and did everything to make our stay enjoyable. We intend to return.
